A Rough Afternoon in Turin As Torino Top Roma #27

Week 6

Score: Torino 3 Roma 1
Stadio Grand Torino, Turin

Following midweek 4-0 victory over bottom feeders Crotone Roma got back to work taking it on the Road to face Former Man City Keeper Joe Hart and Tornio in Turin. For Match day 6 of Serie A this season. Through the 1st 6 games Roma has a Record of 3-1-1 with 10points and currently in 3rd. Torino was 1-2-2 with 5 points currently in 12th going into the match. The Romans were highly expected to beat Tornio being the much better team anything can happen but Roma on paper is the much better team with more offensive weapons a better manager pretty much has the advantages across the board but football can do crazy things sometimes you can be better everywhere and still be out classed. Torino got on the score sheet early with A. Belotti’s goal in the opening 10 minutes they would double it with a 2nd Half Penalty from Roma loanee Falque Totti would put away his 250th goal in Serie A goal to close the gab but Falque’s late goal would lead Torino to a 3-1 win pulling off an amazing upset taking out the Serie A giants. To Cause Concern for Giallorossi.

Roma manger Luciano Spalletti went with the 5-3-1 formation for the third straight game. After using 4-3-3 for most of last season as well as the beginning of this season. The change of formation I think is large part due to Dzeko getting a more of starting place in his 11 when he starts its in Roma’s best interest to play with a heavy midfield and a lone striker upfront. Again no change at the back with Bruno Peres and Alexandro Florenzi as left back and right back respectively. Than Fazio and Manolos being deployed as the center backs no change in the back four. In the defensive midfield Kevin Strootmen would remain in his post as the Left Defensive Midfielder (LDM) as Danielle De Rossi would return to the starting lineup as the Right defensive midfielder (RDM) getting his 2nd start of this season. The three headed monster once again would be in a different location as the attacking midfielders. Diego Perotti and Mouhammed Salah as the wingers and for this game Raja would return to the starting 11 to become the third head as the center midfielder. And of course up front it would be the 6’4 the Bosnian Tower Edzin Dzeko playing as the lone striker and Szczesny got yet another Serie A start in goal. Another strong team for the Romans.

In was a hot and Sunny day in Turin for the Romans match up against Torino it would be an absolutely beautiful day for a football match. Roma trying to make it two wins in a row in Serie A and Torino have their own ambitions to attempt to turn their season around. Roma came into the game has heavy favorites Roma have a high volume offence as the highest scoring team in Italy last season as well as so far this season. Roma had the 1st real chance of the game when Raja Naingollan hit a fantastic shot from outside the box but just missed. However, to everyone’s surprise it would the underdogs that would hit 1st they wasted no time getting on the score sheet just 10 minutes in taking advantage of a fantastic opportunity. Torino took a shot that was saved but then off the rebound he passed it outside the box to Obi who pulled the ball into the box into A. Belotti who headed it home past Szczesny he did everything he could to stop it but Torino found the net to take the 1-0 lead. Later in the half Roma had a great chance to equalize when Perotti took a poor shot that was deflected close to goal where Dzeko attempted a power shot but it was unsuccessful as Joe Hart saved it. Torino than put together another strong chance a tempted bicycle kick picked up a shot taken by Torino nearly scoring after hitting the post. All half it was a back and forth affair with Joe Hart and Szczesny both playing brilliantly despite a lot of great chances the 1st half ended with the Turin side up in a back and forth 1-0 game at the half. A very close half there was no clear team in control however Roma’s inability to finish off chances reappeared on the field as once again but were some positives as well but finishing off chances is something they still need to work on.

In the 2nd half Luciano Spalletti made one substitution bringing on Francesco Totti for Daneille De Rossi taking over at Right Defensive Midfielder. To try to help Roma initiate a potential comeback. However, in the 52nd minute Torino loanee Brought down Belotti in the box despite some additional theatrics the penalty was given. Roma loanee Falque would put the ball past the keeper despite a fantastic effort by the keeper it would dig Roma in an even deeper hole. They were now trailing by the score of 2-0 in the 2nd half. To Roma’s luck they got right back in it no less than three minutes later in the 55th minute. Perotti was pushed over in the box Roma was given a penalty giving a great chance for them get right back in the game. Up to take the kick was Roma legend Francesco Totti. Totti would blast it right past Joe Hart to make history once again taking his Serie A tally to 250 being only the 2nd player ever to do so. With the goal it takes him to 306th career goal for Roma. All of sudden it was only a one goal deficit Roma had a chance to come back much like they did in their last meeting with Torino last season. Unfortunately, it just wasn’t there day 13 minutes later the Roma loanee Falque would hit a deep chip shot past Szczęsny for his second goal of the game given Torino the 3-1 lead. Stephen El Shaarawy and Leonardo Paredes would come on to attempt a late game comeback but it was ultimately unsuccessful as Torino protected home to pull a big upset.

With the Loss Roma falls to 4th in the table just one lone point behind Inter Milan who they play next week. It wasn’t really a bad performance it was just a bit unlucky but Torino were deserving winners. Roma just need to learn from their mistakes and apply them into their next game. beyond the Europa League match against Romanian Champions Astra in mid-week. They face the toughest stretch of their season. As they take on Inter Milan next week which to me is almost a must win if they want to keep pace with Juventus and Napoli however if everything goes well and get at least 4 points from their next two games it could be their turning point in the season this team could very well win the title despite the struggles Roma are title contenders only a fool would think otherwise. If they can finish off their attacks a little better this team could be very very dangerous and If they are able to beat both Inter and Napoli it could jump start their entire season…….
