Score: Roma 4 Austria Wein 2
– Vienna, Austria
Following Roma’s hot streak coming to an end on Saturday in Naples against Empoli I their disappointing 0-0 Draw in Serie A. They would get a quick break from Serie A as they would resume their Europa league campaign in match day 4 of the group stage this is where things usually start heating up. They would play their 2nd match against Austria Wien. In their home fixture against them they blew a 3-1 lead earing just a point in the 3-3 draw but they would be given a chance for revenge in the reverse fixture. And they would get it after falling behind just two minutes in but Roma would strike back quickly minutes later with Dzeko’s 11th goal of the season goal than Roma would double the lead shortly after with De Rossi’s goal. Than In the 2nd half roma would take over Dzeko would get his second and Nainggolan would also add to the wealth Austria would get one back but it would be too late as Roma went on to win 4-2 to jump to the top of Groupe E now the verge just needing one win to qualify to the knockout stage of the coemption.
After using a different formation then they usually are accustomed to using they switched it in their last match in their last Europa league match but in this game Roma boss Luciano Spalletti would go back to their standard lineup of the 5-4-1. The lineups would look very similar too the team that faced the Austria Giants in Rome just a week ago but there would be some crucial changes but still practically the same team they used in Serie A Saturday. It would be their 1st game in the Europa league without Alexandro Florenzi who as I mentioned last week suffered an ACL Tear recently. The back line would look very similar to the last time they played them. Antoine Rudiger would be making his 1st European start since last year’s champions league knockout game against Real Madrid he looked very good in his 1st start last weekend he would be deployed as the right center back. The other center back would be Danielle De Rossi making his 1st start in the defense this season as he is usually plays in the defensive midfield but is very capable of playing both. On the sides lining up at left back returning to the startling lineup would be Roma’s best defender this season Bruno Peres coming off an injury the 26-year-old got some run out in Roma’s draw over the weekend still looks the part. Than on the other side would be Inter Milan Loanee Juan Jesus who has improved on his poor form as of late he would lineup as the right back he would conclude the back line. Than in front of defensive line would be the defensive midfield pair of Leonardo Paredes and Kevin Strootmen. Paredes would start on the left as he continues to show real quality as he has shown that he is a very important member of the team. Than Returning to the startling lineup on the right side would be the Belgium international Kevin Strootmen. Than there would be the attacking midfield unit known as Roma’s three headed monster. In the middle, would be Raji Nainggolan playing the center midfield position than on the left wing returning to the starting 11 would be the Argentinian Diego Perotti one of Roma’s bright spots this season coming off his injury did also get some run time over the weekend but now is ready for a full return. Than on the opposite side playing on the right wing starting in the place of Mohamed Salah who was giving rest for the game would be in form Stephen El Shaarawy who in the place of Perotti did tremendously well. Than up front playing as the lone striker the Hottest man in the Italian league would be the Bosnian Tower Edin Dzeko who has been scoring goals for fun this season is Roma’s most dangerous weapon. Finally, in goal would be their Europa league keeper Brazilian Allison Becker. A very strong team surely too much fire power for the hosts to handle.
Roma would return to Europa league action on Thursday night football in their 4th match of the Europa league group stage arguably the most important match for the Romans so far this season a win almost confirms advancement to the knockout stage. They were equal on points with Austria Wein the two played in Rome last week with Roma looking like better group going up 3-1 deep in the 2nd half but a late collapse allowed the Austrian Giants to leave Rome with a point earning a 3-3 a draw. It would an opportune for Roma to get revenge on them as well getting back into form after a quite impressive winning streak in Serie A they couldn’t put one past relegation side Empoli this was there chance for redemption. Roma despite their recent collapse would go into the match as heavy favorites the quality just isn’t the same on both sides. Giving the fact that both team are even on point this was a very Important game the winner of the game would likely to win the group. The game started and fans didn’t have to wait for long to see a goal Roma’s struggles would continue in just the 2nd minute Austria Wein would take the lead. After receiving a pass Lucas Venuto passed it in the box Allison came out to grab it but he got disorganized leaving an open net for Kayode who tapped it in Juan Jesus cleared out the shot but after the goal was revealed that the ball crossed the line giving Austria Wein the 1-0 lead after only 2 minutes. The lead wouldn’t last long in fact just two minutes later Roma would equalize a great team goal. Near the opposing side Paredes sent a through ball into Bruno Peres who would than give a one touch pass into Dzeko and the striker would put it past the keeper for his 11th goal of the season and his 1st goal in Europe this season making it 1-1 in the 1st 5 minutes. Once again it was a goal frenzy between to top sides. Despite the even picking Roma still seemed like the better team they were in control of the game and wouldn’t have to wait all that long for another Roma goal. In the 17th minute On a Roma corner Leonardo Paredes sent a perfect ball in the box Dzeko got his head on than an Austrian defender got in the way of the keeper trying to make a save the mistake lead to De Rossi picking up the ball smashing it in the back of the net for the goal making in 2-1 in the first 20 minutes of the match. Roma continued to look like the better side despite several more chances for Roma it would end 2-1 after 45 minutes.
Roma wouldn’t make any subs after the break stay with the same team that gave them success in the 1st half. Roma continued to be in control of the game looked much improved form Saturdays importance they continued to attack with great success it seemed like it would only be a matter of team before they broke through the defense once again they were getting in good position almost on a consistent basis and finally after attack after attack they broke through with a brilliant goal it would be the main man Edin Dzeko again. Diageo Perotti dribbled up in a dangerous space gave it to El Shaarawy who crossed it in giving a near perfect pass the 6’4 Dzeko he would hit it with on touch but would hit the post than picked up the scrapes to making it 3-1 to the Romans. The goal was really good but the pass from El Shaarawy was out of this world El Shaarawy may not get the headlines but he makes a big impact for this season is certainly back to playing in top gear much like he did in his loan a season ago. It would be Dzeko’s 2nd of the day and his 12th goal of the season. Dzeko has been lethal this season scoring with ease making everything looks so easy has done well in Serie A Europa and for his country top class player this season. Roma were in cruise control but it was important not to get to high on themselves having blown the same lead in their last match against. The Roma show would continue both teams were doing well getting shots on goal but it seemed like Roma were making better with those chances than once again Roma would crack the code putting this game out of reach for good. In the 77th minute on a free kick taken by Paredes it was sent in to Rudiger who headed to Raji Nainggolan who then shot a cracking shot scoring his 1st goal of the season. Making it 4-1. It would remain the same until the very end of the game where they would get one back but it would be too little too late as they would cruise to the 4-2 win. The Win would take Roma at the top of Group E now only needing a win to advance to the Round Of 32. Roma will return to action Sunday against Bologna as they attempt to get back on track in Serie A. All in all brilliant result as they are now step closer of getting through.
