Szczesny and Dzeko Shine As Roma Top Inter #30

WEEK 8Score: Roma 2 Inter 1 FT
Stadio Olimpico, Rome

Following Roma’s 4-0 win over The Romanian Defending Champions Astra in the Europa League Group Stage On Thursday. Roma would return to Serie A action for the Week 7 of this year’s campaign. In one of the most anticipated and thrilling matches of the season. As they would take on their biggest test of the season they would host 3rd Place and Italian Giants Inter Milan, who prior to the match were one point and one place ahead of the Romans in the table. This was one of the biggest games in Italy this season there was no clear favorite to win the game. Roma’s high scoring attacking against One Of Serie A’s Best Strikers Marco Icardi. In the end it would be Roma that would Prevail 2-1 in one of the most exiting games of the season. Edin Dzeko would give the Romans the Lead 15 minutes in. It was a lead Roma held on too for the Majority of the game thanks to Szczesny’s extraordinary goalkeeping throughout the game. Inter would eventually equalize despite Szczesny’s Brilliance with Bangna’s strike but they wouldn’t Be Even for long as The Greek God Kosta Manolas would give the Romans the lead for good several minutes later Giving Romans their 1st win against Inter Milan since 2014. An Outstanding start to their tough stretch.

Luciano Spalletti would need a very strong lineup to take down a team as good as Inter Milan. He Kept core of the team intact as well as making a very expected change to his side for the clash against Inter. They would stay in their foundation using 5-4-1 formation yet again. It does seem that it d works and my guess is that Roma will continue to lineup this way this season. Putting Dzeko up front adds another element to what they can do given his size and strength so I think sticking with this formation is very wise. In the back holding the line of defense there would only be one change. Inter Milan player on Loan Juan Jesus would start in the place of Alexandro Florenzi at Left back the rest would stay the same as the previous week. Right back would be Bruno Peres and the center backs would be Fazio and Manolas many of which has started most of the year a very familiar bunch. In front of the back line the left Defensive mid would be Kevin Strootman again he has started practically every game in that spot this season he has been great in his role than on the right side only playing in his 3rd game this season would be long time Roman Danielle De Rossi. The Attacking trio or as I like to call it the three headed monster would be very different than usual. Stephen El Shaarawy, Raja and Totti would all be on the bench for the game all three had been a part of the trio at least for some time this season. However, Roma would go with Diego Perotti and Mohammed Salah as the left and right head respectively and in the Central midfield spot making his 1st appearance as an attacking player would be versatile Defender/Midfielder Alexandro Florenzi. I was shocked to see him lineup there although I know he’s capable of playing both Defender and Midfield I don’t recall seeing him lineup in the as a CM it was quite surprising but it worked out well. Than up front as the lone striker was Hit Men the Bosnian Tower as I like to call him 6’4 Edin Dzeko who was been one of the best players on Roma this season. So a very different lineup but very effective team having all the weapons to challenge a team such as Inter Milan.

3rd place Inter Milan arrived in Rome to the Stadio Olimpico Late Sunday night as they awaited to face 4th Place Roma. The game meaning a lot for both teams a win or loss for either team would mean a great deal a win would shoot one of these teams up the table and a loss would shoot them down away from European places. It would be the game of the week and rightfully so largely because the teams are only one place apart in the table as well as one point making the difference Inter in 3rd with 11Pts and Roma in 4th with 10pPts and Even if that isn’t the case Roma vs Inter Milan are also massive games for both sets of teams as well as Supporters. The Kings of Rome and The Giants of Milan despite table position it is also an amazing game and atmosphere when these two go head to head. Roma would be looking for their 1st victory over Inter since 2014 having lost and drawn twice in the last three meetings despite that Roma still finished 13 points above them a season ago. It was a dark night in Rome on Sunday night the biggest game of the week as about to begin. This turned out to be one of the best games of the season so far. Both teams were going back and forth tremendous attacking play beautiful defensive set ups and outstanding goal keeping especially from Szczensy he was out to prove he was one of the best keepers in Serie A the Arsenal loanee put in his best performance in the Roma shirt. It was too close to call almost no one was seemingly in control of the game. However, when Roma had their chance they took advantage of their moment Salah gave Bruno Peres a perfect through ball into the box who then passed it in the middle of the box to Dzeko who scored a magnificent Ronaldo like back heel the Bosnian striker timed it perfectly all the keeper could do is watch has Dzeko scored his 5th goal of the season as he gave Roma the 1-0 lead 15 minutes in an absolutely well-organized team play from Roma. Dzeko in really starting to look like the player they expected him to be when they brought him to Italy last summer. He is finally comfortable in Rome and will score many more before the season is over he should reach 20 goals this season has been one of Roma’s best. Roma continued to attack Dzeko had a few more chances and good looks but failed to double the lead. It was a very evenly matched Inter had many chances of their own but Szczensy was just unbeatable in goal it he was really frustrating to the opposing team. The game continued to go back and forth both sides even hit the bar you could just tell how intense it was but that’s all the goals there would be in the 1st 45 minutes as Roma would be deservingly ahead 1-0 at the break.

Despite Statically Speaking Inter being better on the stat sheet they had controlled the game as well as they could but from my estimation Roma still looked Slightly better. Still as far as the games goes was very evenly matched both teams created many chances throughout the 1st 45 minutes. This game could have easily been 3-3 at the break Szczensy has been world class so far an unbelievable 1st half performance nothing is getting past him. The back and forth play would continue but we wouldn’t see a goal for quite some time. Both teams were getting lots of amazing chances to score but the keepers continued to get all the shots out. It looked like it would end 1-0 but quite honestly it could have been 5-5 by this point a very exciting game to watch was none stop action from the start many great runs shots and saves from both teams respectively. It would be the last game before the international break so both sides were looking for the win the game intensified even more as time went on and after Szczensy continued and continued to deny them than finally Inter beat him late in the game in the 72nd minute Inter Equalized when Marco Icardi chipped a ball into the box for Bangna who finally beat Szczesny denying him of a deserving clean sheet. The goal made it 1-1 with less than a half hour to go in the game all of sudden we had a game on our hands. However, it would not last as Roma hit right back no more than 5 minutes later. On a Roma Free Kick from right outside the box Captain Florenzi sent the cross into box where The Greek God Kosta Manolas took back the lead for good as he headed the ball past the keeper for what would be the game winning goal.

There would be several greater chances for both teams but it wasn’t enough to break the dead lock as the full time whistle blew with Roma winning a huge match at home over Inter Milan. The win would extend their home win streak to 4 wins in a row at home. Also it would be their 1st win against Inter Milan since 2014. Inter would suffer their 1st loss since their season opener. Roma would shoot back up to 3rd being level on points with AC Milan, Fierce Rivals Lazio and Chevio and only trail 1st Place Juventus by 5 points. While Inter Milan would fall down to 9th. It wasn’t Roma best game but it was exactly the result Roma needed as they face Napoli when they return to action after the International break. We learned from this game that you can be dominated statically and still be the better team the result was deserving. We also learned that Szczesny can be a very capable keeper in this league he won the match for Roma today
