Week 1A.S Roma 4 Udinese 0
– Stadio Olimpico, Roma

Roma make it clear that they intend to challenge Juventus for the Serie A title and are a real threat in this league after they cruise past Udinese with a 4-0 victory in the season opener with substitute Man of the match Diego Perotti scoring twice converting two penalties from the spot with Edin Dzeko and Mohamed Salah also finding the net and finishing the job. Roma are now unbeaten in 18 league games. Roma have only lost one game since Spalletti took over last January.

Roma opened up their season today against Udinese the 3rd place finishers from a year ago against a Udinese team that barely survived relegation. Roma would be missing out on Captain Alexandro Florenzi they would also be without defenders Antione Rudiger and Marco Rui due to injury however Spalletti still had a very good game plan going into the match. Paraguayan youngster Leandro Paredes would get the start in the midfield on the right side next to Raja Nainggolan and Kevin Strotman replacing Florenzi in that spot. New signing Bruno Peres would make the start on his much anticipated debut after recently joining from Torino New defender Thomas Vermaelen as well as Juan Jesus and Fazio would also make their 1st appearance. Wojciech Szczęsny would get the start in goal after Allison getting the start in the Champions league qualifier match earlier in the week against F.C Porto. Roma ran a 4-3-3 with the three headed monster of Dzeko Salah and El Shaarawy up front to give Roma a very attacking style of play for the opener it turned out to be the right decision.

Despite the absentees Roma appeared to be in fine form was firmly in control of the game from the start. They did a really nice job passing as well as controlling possession but overall they seemed really flat didn’t seem to be really taking their chances very well the 1st half was less than Steller roma was playing a bit too passive as narrow and as a result, repeatedly charging headlong into Udinese’s unruffled back four. I wouldn’t say they were poor but they weren’t playing as well as there are capable of it was a bit concerning going into the break a draw in this game was unacceptable they drew far too many games last season which is largely the reason why they didn’t win the title. It’s not that they are making mistakes they just needed to convert their chances. At the break it they weren’t at their best it was 0-0 after 45 minutes.

In the 2nd half Roma continued to do exceptionally well but also seemed to struggle a bit as well still being unable to put chances away despite what it may have said on the stat sheet. Than Spalletti made a substitution that would change the landscape of the match. In the 57th minute it took out El Shaarawy the Italian wasn’t at his best in today’s game and Spalletti brought in Diego Perotti to replace him on the right wing. This sub kick started the game in a big way Roma started playing better attacking football. It would only take eight minutes for Diego to make his impact on the game, In the 65th minute Dzeko was brought down by a nasty tackle by Danilo he was shown yellow and Roma was given a penalty. Diego Perotti stepped up to the spot and put it away with ease scoring the 1st goal in Serie A this season to put Roma up 1-0. Roma’s form from that point continued they started to push and push getting in to great scoring possions getting a lot of chances on goal than about 10 minutes later Salah is pushed over inside the box and the referee gave yet another penalty. The Argentinian International would step up once again to the spot and yet again he put a brilliant strike past the keeper from the spot for his 2nd goal of the game to put Roma up 2-0. Roma would continue their counter attacking was frustrating the defense and just like that they got another 8 minutes later after Leandro Paredes gave a brilliant through ball into the box to Raja on the goal line than he made an inventive sliding pass in to Dzeko to put it away with no problem giving Roma a very convincing 3-0 lead. Than just two minutes later that got another this time it was Mouhamed Salah taking a beautiful cross from Bruno putting it in the back of the net on the rebound from his header putting the final nail in the coffin giving them the 4-0 lead to finish them off. It would be a hugely dominating display as they would seal the three points starting off the season the right way. It would end a 4-0 win for the Romans proving to the football world that they can hang with Juventus.
