Score: Roma 0 Astra 0 FT
Stadionul Marin, Giurgiu
Following Roma’s Emotional win against arch rivals Lazio in the Debry Della Capitale, they would return to Europa League Play Match Day 6 to finish off the group stage in Romania on the final day of the Group Stage with Roma having already won the Group and having earned a place in the Round of 32 this game didn’t mean much as they played a lot of Reserves. Would be their 2nd meeting against the Romanian Champions Astra an easy 4-0 the 1st time around. Roma would play mostly reserves in the best interest of the team with games against ACMilan and Juventus the next few weeks. Astra would still be in contention for the Knockout stage with a good result they were looking for better luck than there thrashing in match day 2. It would be an uneventful game with both teams sharing some goal scoring attempts but nothing seems to be falling playing without Mohamod Salah Edin Dzeko and Raji Nainggolan wasn’t the easy task as they struggled at time in after several opportunity’s in ended as a goalless draw as both keepers kept the clean sheet. Which meant that Astra would join Roma at the top of Group F as both teams would advance through to the Round Of 32 as the Draw for the Knockout stage awaits
For the last and Final game of the Europa League Group Stage Given the fact that Roma have already won the group Roma’s Manger Luciano Spalletti decided to do a complete revamp of the squad. As 9 out of the 11 starters a single played in Roma’s 2-0 Win against Lazio in the Roman Derby on Sunday started this game. Emerson, Bruno Peres and Kevin Strootman being the only players from Sunday that started this game he is serving a two-match band for the water bottle incident so not surprising that Luciano gave him the start. The fact that they have already advance I completely understand why he deiced to do that given the opportunity to give a chance to the young players that don’t usually get to play. Give the young players in the side Spalletti decided to use a different formation that their usual 4-5-1 that Roma typically use in this Competition they went back to the 4-3-3 for this game a formation they briefly used as the beginning of the season. It’s possible that we could see a temporary formation change during Salah’s Absence but it’s unclear at the moment they could very well go back to 4-5-1 but we must wait and see. In goal, would be their Europa League Keeper Roma’s #2 The Brazilian Allison Becker he has started every game so far in the competition. Roma went back to four defenders in back line after only playing three in the back against Lazio. At Left back making his debut former Lazio defender 20-year old Moustapha Seck. At right back it would one of my Roma’s best players this season Bruno Peres than deploying the center would be Juan Jesus who is most normally used as a sub would get a start in this game and the other center back would be Thomas Vermaelen making only his 4th appearance for the club. Antione Rudiger and Fazio were both granted rest of the game allowing them to prepare for Roma’s best match against AC Milan on Sunday. The Midfield trio also would look a bit different Kevin Strootman would take over Raji Nainggolan normal position as the Center Midfielder than on the right wing would be once again Emerson his 2nd midfield start of the season, joining him on the left wing would be the Brazilian 19-year old Gerson getting his 2nd start in the Europa League this season. Than up front the Striker trio would be In the Middle would be that Legend Francesco Totti making his 768th Appearance for Roma than on the left wing returning from Injury would be Stephen El Shaarawy than joining him on the right wing would be Juan Iturbe. A very experimental side but since the game isn’t a great deal of importance it was a team Spalletti though was appropriate.
In that Final Match of the Europa League 2nd Place Astra would host Group F Leaders 1st Place Roma as they welcomed the Italian Giants to Romania. Roma would shake up the team like I mentioned not the team Astra saw in their 4-0 Thrashing in match day 2 of their European crusade Astra could go through if Austrian Wien lost the Viktoria Plzen so it was crucial that they get a good result here. Despite a different looking team, Roma would go into it as slight favorites. After preparation of the match both teams were ready to go as the game kicked off in Astra. It was an evenly matched game throughout no team really stuck out now there were a few chances in the 1st half but all in all it was a pretty flat 1st 45 minutes. Astra would put together several good chances but there finishing was poor Roma struggled to really get much going at all with a team that hasn’t really played together very often it is understandable. They created a few chances but much like Astra they failed to convert on-anything. Astra had the biggest chance of the game in the 1st half on two amazing shots but Allison denied Astra of a lead. Allison played his very best game in the Roma shirt he has finally getting the hang of it he is a very good #2 option has done quite well throughout the Europa league so far, this season certainly should continue it start game in Europe. It would be a game where no one really seemed to have control this game wasn’t about winning for Roma it was about him some of the younger players chances to play. It was a goalless game after the 1st half. The 2nd half appeared no different neither team could break through it was a very uneventful game. Roma kept the youth throughout but did bring Raji Nainggolan and Dzeko late on but no real difference as the game would end as a 0-0 Draw as Roma topped the Group with 12Pts. Astra would advance as well after Austria Wein coughed up a 2-0 lead to lose 3-2 to Plzen. The next opponent will be determined at the Round Of 32 Europa League Draw.
