Score: A.S Roma 4 A.C Milan 1 FT
-San Siro, Milan
Following Roma’s derby loss to Lazio last weekend Roma would continue their crusade in Serie A with their 35th match of this season’s campaign as they prepared for one of their biggest matches of the season as they would come to the big place to take on A.C Milan at the San Siro. It is a very important game. Third place Napoli having won their game would temporarily take over second place as they stand one point in front of the Roma’s prior to the game. Roma and Napoli continue to fight it out for the final automatic champion’s league spot this season. Roma would get ready to take on Milan for the second time this season trying to get yet another win off them. AC Milan would try their best to defend their fortress but the Romans just were took strong Roma would strike first very early in the first half with an absolute wonder strike from Dzeko to make it 1-0 it wouldn’t end there Dzeko would add more to his scoring record as he would double mid-way through the first half to make it 2-0 to Roma after the first half. In the second half Milan would get one back when Chelsea Loanee Mario Pasalic scored a goal to make it 2-1. It would be short lived as Roma would hit back right away as Former AC Milan Scarlet Stephen El Shaarawy scored to make it 3-1 Roma. Roma dominated the game from start to finish Roma continued that display late as the Giallorossi would get one more very late as Danielle De Rossi would bury a Penalty to make it 4-1 Statically the most dominated performance of the season in Serie A. As Roma would get a much needed and important win as Roma takes back second.
There wasn’t a lot of news this week other than the continued optimism of Monchi A.K.A The Transfer Guru as Roma fans are still so excited about his arrival. There were a few more developments this week; the Franck Kessie rumors only continue to resurface as Both Roma and A.C Milan are ready to battle for him I still fancy Roma’s chances in securing his signature it has been reported that Roma have a pre agreement on the Atalanta midfielder but Milan are looking to hijack it as they also hope to get their hands on the youngster. If Roma are to crush Milan tonight it would sway into Roma’s favor in the Kessie deal. Another rumor that was in the news this week is Chelsea are looking to go in for Roma defender Kosta Manolas after another Roma defender Antino Rudiger revealed he doesn’t want to relocate at this time. Manolas leaving seems like a pretty much done deal with Inter having lead the race since January Chelsea are trying to give him another option as Inter have been very poor recently Chelsea hoping the Greek international will reconsider a move to England after fellow Londoners Arsenal failed to bring him to the Emeries in the summer. Chelsea manager Antino Conte has sent scouts to watch the game so the possibility of Chelsea signing the center-back is very possible he will cost Chelsea between 40-50 million pounds. Roma this week were giving some bad news as well Kevin Strootman has been given a two match ban for his shameless dive against Lazio in the derby last weekend. Rightfully so as it was very shameful but it will be a big loss none the less as it may cost roma as the midfielder misses tonight’s game as well as the big clash with Juventus. Roma legend and captain Francesco Totti according to reports will retire at the end of the season it a very emotional situation for not only myself but for all the Roma fans around the world as he has been a player we have worshiped I will do an article about it at the season’s conclusion. Than Finally Roma’s vice-Captain Alexandro Florenzi spoke to the media about his progression after suffering two knee injuries this season. The versatile defender/winger says that he feels strong and the therapy is going well and he can’t wait for a return. Roma would change things up a bit for this match as Luciano Spalletti would change their formation going back to the 4-5-1 a formation they used early in the season there would be three lineup changes to the side. Roma would be without Rudiger and Strootman due to suspensions. In goal as usual would be Woich Szczęsny than for the defensive unite Replacing Rudiger at left back would be Juan Jesus on the opposite side as the right-back would be the Brazilian wingback Emerson than in the middle as the center backs would be Fazio and Kosta Manolas. In front of the defense would be the Defensive midfield duo of Danielle De Rossi and replacing Kevin Strootman would be Leoandro Paredes as he would return to the staring 11. Then we would see a return of the three headed monster in the attacking midfield; Raja Nainggolan as the center midfielder; Mouhamed Salah on the right wing and on the left wing than replacing El Shaarawy would be Diego Perotti the make up the three headed monster. Than finally up front as the lone striker the man mountain the Bosnian Talisman Edin Dzeko a Very strong team that should give AC Milan a ton of problems.
Only just a few games remaining in this Seasons Serie a campaign Roma will face their toughest test over the next two weeks as they play A.C Milan today and Juventus next week. This game has so much importance to Roma as they continue to battle Napoli for the Final Automatic Champions League Spot; Roma do not Want to be dragged back into Champions League Qualifiers after they failed to get into the champions league last season after losing to F.C Porto into the Qualifiers 4-1 on aggregate over the two games. It is a stage that Italian sides seems to struggle it is an absolute must win to get back into the champions league Roma have held the second position for nearly ¾ of the season as they have been put pressure on Juventus at times. If Roma were to lose second and miss out of the champion’s league it would be not only costly but really embarrassing there is no excuse for losing 2nd. Here lies the problem Roma going into the weekend had a one point lead on 3rd Napoli but after Napoli’s win they have leapfrogged Roma as they now stand one point above the Romans as the next two weeks will affect everything no slip ups can happen if Roma want to hold on to the 2nd position. Roma basically have to beat AC Milan tonight and beat Juventus next week as well they are trapped in this corner any slip up could lose them the Champions League unless Napoli loses to Torino next week. It would be Roma’s second match against the Milan boys trying to make it two out of two against them as Roma won their first meeting back in December at home in a 1-0 game. Roma would Overtake 2nd a place where they have stayed since their first meeting. Both teams are in similar form as of late but in recent times it is been very much in Roma’s favor; The Giallorossi have won only lost one out of the last nine Serie A meetings against AC Milan. Also if Roma win tonight they set personal bests if they win they will go to 78 points in the table; Only twice before in Serie A have Roma picked up at least 75 points after 34 match days: in 2000/01 (75) and in 2013/14 (82). As far as the match its self I don’t need to repeat how important it is that Roma win. When Roma beat Milan back in December they physiologically ruined their season as AC Milan dropped the quality as they fell out of the champions league spots and never returned. AC Milan has done slightly better lately but Roma have the much better team as they will give AC Milan a ton of Problems in this game. Mohamed Salah and Edin Dzeko among them it’s a duo that cannot be matched in SERIE A. One thing that Milan will have to worry about is the Man mountain Edin Dzeko who has been scoring goals for fun this season having scored 24 goals in the league and 35 goals in all competitions he has been SERIE A’s best by a country mile this season he is always a threat to score however he has not scored in two games so he is certainly due for some goals. On the other hand Roma also have Serie A’s most complete player Mohamed Salah who has been Roma’s catalyst this season despite missing a mouth at the African cup of nations the Egyptian International has put together his best season of his career scoring 17 goals and 13 assists he can put his imprint on the game in so many ways he is a creator of scoring chances with his rapid speed an awareness he is nearly unstoppable Milan will have their hands full with this two. Milan have a few pretty good players but none that really jump off the page this isn’t a blowout type of game but it could be Milan’s keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma is the only player that has that star status he will be the difference between 0-0 and 4-0.
The big match at the San Siro was ready to take off as both teams were ready and understand the importance of the game for both teams. Roma came out firing very early in the match as from the very beginning it looked like AC Milan were going to have a hard time to cope with Roma’s relentless attack it fact it took no time for Roma to jump in front as they scored in the opening 10 minutes on their first shot of the game. It would Dzeko finding the back of the net once again; in the 8th minute while in the danger area Mohamed Salah took the ball off of a Milan midfielder and gave a one touch pass to find Dzeko near the box than Dzeko hit it back to Salah and the Egyptian hit it right back to Dzeko and the Bosnian International hit an absolute wonder strike from the top of the box smashing it in the top right corner to give Roma the 1-0 lead with eight minutes gone. An excellent connection and chemistry the Salah and Dzeko connection has been better than any other duo in Serie A this season. It would be Dzeko’s 26th goal this season and his 36th goal in all competitions tying his personal best matching his 36 goals he scored while at Wolfsburg in the 2008-2009 season. It would be Salah’s 14th assist this season he has proven this year that he has a proven ability as a passer as well as a scorer. It would only be the beginning as Roma continued to get chances against a very poor Milan defense. Diego Perotti would send a cross into Salah but Salah’s shot was a bit high. The dominance was clear for the start despite Milan winning on possession however Milan did get a few chances. Gerard Deulofeu gave Milan a chance on the break but his shot was deflected into the side netting. We wouldn’t see much from Milan in the first half on the other hand Roma was running rampage. Within the span of three minutes Roma had three scoring Opportunities. First it was Perotti getting close as his shot hit the bar than Raja Nainggolan took his chance from deep as he would fire a strike from outside the box but it went wide the right. Leoandro Paredes sent a cross connected with Dzeko but the shot was too high. Dzeko had another chance moments later but his strike from the center of the box went to high. Roma had the right idea there were pressing the defense to breaking point. And after a Szczęsny save Roma would take advantage on the other end in the 28th minute Roma would punish Milan once again. Leoandro Paredes cut in a cross off a corner as he would connect with Edin Dzeko once again as the Striker used his 6’4 height to jump into traffic to head the ball in the back of the net to make it 2-0. Edin Dzeko scored his second of the game to reach a mark that the Romans had not seen in nearly a century scoring his 27th goal in the league. Dzeko becomes first Roma player to score at least 27 goals in a single Serie A season since Enrique Guaita (1934/35) setting yet another Roma reaocnd as he sets historical marks for Roma once again. The Strike would put Dzeko back on top of the Serie A leader boards it would be Dzeko 37th goal of the season as he sets a career best in goals. Also it must be said it was a well taken corner by Paredes to give the spot on deliver to the big man. Roma continued to put on an offensive display their attack was ruthless it was all roma not long after the goal it became a non-stop ruthless attack by Roma Gianluigi Donnarumma had shots firing is way nonstop the ac Milan scarlet did his very best to keep them out as he is the only reason it wasn’t more than 2-0. At about the half hour Mark Diego Perotti came close as the argentine fired a shot from the side of the box after getting the ball from Salah but the missed slightly. This time it was the reverse as Perotti connected with Salah near the side of the box however the Egyptian would miss from the side of the box. One of the problems in this game was trying to handle Salah as he has already given problems to Milan he is wicked quick and nearly impossible to track he has already made a huge impact. Raja Nainggolan would have another chance from deep after receiving the ball from Salah the Belgium hit a powerful shot near the bottom corner but the keeper was able to get his hands to it. Less than a minute later Roma were in on goal again but Salah had a poor touch of the ball as his attempted strike went too high. In the 40th minute Milan finally have a chance of their own but Cristian Zapata’s headed pass towards Mario Pasalic was blocked. Milan just don’t have the weapons to keep up if they are going to score they need to take advantage of the chances they do have and much like earlier in the game Roma would get a rapid response to Milan’s chance. Raja Nainggolan would send a through ball into Diego Perotti the argentine would try to shoot from a tricky angle but his shot would be saved. Near the end of the half Raja Nainggolan would try to make it three as he tried to strike it from deep twice in the closing moments but he was unable to bag them. After the first half it would be 2-0 to Roma thanks to two goals by the big Bosnian.
Edin Dzeko Scores two goals in the first half to give Roma a 2-0.
Going into the second half Roma doing exactly what they had to do to get their hopes of retaining second alive. On the other hand AC Milan was in a world of trouble as they looked very flat an embarrassing performance by their defense. Roma had 17 shots in the first half the most amount of shots taken in the first half throughout all Serie A action this season. A half of utter dominance by the Romans Raja Nainggolan, Diego Perotti, and Mouhamed Salah & Edin Dzeko was Roma’s fantastic four had been untouchable as a unit in the first half giving Milan serious problems. After constant chances in first half the constant attack backed off slightly as they were played a little more controlling style of football. Nothing really important happened until the 60th minute when Roma made their first change of the game as Former AC Milan player Stephen El Shaarawy came on for Diego Perotti; the Italian International scored in his only other game against his old club. Much like a lot of this season; when El Shaarawy came on Roma began to pick up the pace. The first chance of the second half came with a little over 30 minutes to go. When Emerson took a shot from the six yard box but it was saved in the bottom right corner. Roma would get another chance moments later as they clear domination continued. We would see the Belgium connect with the Bosnian when Raja Nainggolan sent a through ball into the box Dzeko took the shot was misfired a glorious chance for Roma to put the game away for good. A few minutes later Milan would get a rare chance. Milan youngster Andrea Bertolacci tried from deep but missed the target. Milan would even get another chance when Lucas Ocampos stroke it from the right side of the box but they also would miss. Milan looked a lot better in the second half but they really need to take better chances if they want to get back into the game. Roma would make a change as Raja Nainggolan would come off for Clement Greiner a few minutes after the change Stephan El Shaarawy would take a chance as he would hit a ball from the center of the box but it was saved. It became now or never for Milan as the Roma attack only continued to gain strength. Milan’s moment finally came late in the game as Milan would get one back. In the 76th minute off a corner kick Lucas Ocampos attempted header pass to Milan Chelsea Loanee Mario Pasalic headed it past the keeper to give Milan hope of salvaging something making it 2-1. However there would be a raid response by the Giallorossi and El Shaarawy had the killer instinct once again he would put one past his former team. Off a deep Free kick taken by Danielle De Rossi; the Italian sent a long cross into the box to find Dzeko who gave a headed pass to El Shaarawy and the former Milan scarlet hit an absolute wonder strike into the top corner giving the keeper no chance to make it 3-1. It would be El Shaarawy’s scoring his 9th goal of the season after a slow start he has really started to show his importance. Than very late there was a twist Roma would be forced to go to their bench in the 84th minute after Edin Dzeko had to come off due to a thigh injury Bruno Peres came on to replace him. Than very late in the game Roma would finish them off for good in the 86th minute Mohamed Salah was violently brought down in the box a red card given Gabriel Paletta and a Penalty to Roma. Danielle De Rossi would step up and slot it past the keeper make it 4-1. It would be Danielle De Rossi’s 3rd goal of the season. The game would finish 4-1 to Roma a convincing and hugely important win winning away in a place when it’s always tough to get results.
Stephen El Shaarawy finds the back of the net against him former team
With this result it kept Roma’s Hunt for Automatic Champions League Qualification alive as it takes them 78 points on the season still hold a one point lead on Napoli prior to the biggest match of the season next weekend against the BIG BOYS Juventus who recently advanced to the Champions League Final. It absolute massive game for both teams Juventus wanting to clinch the league title and Roma wanting to secure second. It will be their second meeting between the two this season after Juventus tight 1-0 win over Roma in the first meeting. Napoli will play Torino this week as they have a chance to Leapfrog Roma once again. It was revealed after the match that Edin Dzeko will miss 10 days with his injury meaning he will miss the big Clash with Juventus El Shaarawy will replace him in the starting 11 which could be a blessing in disguise as El Shaarawy has been amazing the last few weeks but being without Dzeko will be costly as the big Bosnian beast has scored 37 goals this season. With Juventus next week it could determine Everything Roma are at home so there’s a chance.
