Score: A.S Roma 3 Bolonga 0 FT

             Stadio Renato Dall’Ara, Bologna

Following Roma’s Elimination from the Coppa Itaila against Lazio despite their 3-2 win the Giallorossi would return to Serie A action in what would be the 31st match of their Serie A campaign as they were prepared to face Bolonga for the second time this season. Roma would try to complete sweep making it 2 wins out of two against them after winning their first meeting 3-0 in Rome. Feeling their disappointment of their failure to make the Cup Final having to see their rivals Lazio advance. It was all in the past now as Roma was ready for the match having won 4 games in a row the Giallorossi would be heavy favorites and with Napoli dropping points last week as well as having a tough fixture against Lazio it gives Roma a chance to increase their distance as well as gaining in on Juventus. Roma would get in the hunt for their 5th win in a row; it would be Roma that would open up the scoring As Fazio would put Roma ahead 1-0 in the first half. Roma would strike again right before half as Mouhammed Salah would double the Roma lead as they would take a 2-0 lead into the second half. Roma would continue to dominance in the second half having lots of opportunities to score than late in the game Roma would put the game away for good as Dzeko put away his 34th goal of the season to make it 3-0 to put the nail in the coffin as Roma finished off Bolonga getting the three points and earning their 5th win in a row as the title race has opened up a little bit.

There have been some very interesting developments in the news this week for the Romans as the season approaches its conclusion. The big news coming in this week was the pondering future of Roma boss Luciano Spalletti who seems to be likely to leave the club after the end of the season he is on record saying he would leave the club if Roma failed to win trophies with Roma’s elimination from the Europa league and the Coppa Itaila the league is the only thing remaining that Roma would possibly win but they do trail Juventus a moderate amount it’s not impossible but it is a fairly good chance Roma wins nothing this year. So what would that means for Spalletti and Roma at this very point it is not clear several players would like him to stay; Danieele De Rossi the long time Roman spoke about his value to the club as he believes that Roma must pull out all the stops to keep him. This is what he said “He’s been the coach who has had the greatest influence on my career,” De Rossi told Undici magazine. “Roma should pull out all the stops to keep him. I’ve started to see football through his eyes and it’s beautiful. Regardless of what I decide to do, and regardless of the fact he sometimes has a difficult character, Roma should keep a tight hold on him because they would be stronger together.” Danielle De Rossi is due for a contract renewal in June as he desires to stay a Roman regardless. On the coaching front Roberto Mancini is still the likely favorite to replace Spalletti if he leaves. If Spalletti does leave he will have plenty of options as Premier league club Tottenham is preparing a pre contract for the Italian with Pochettino possibly leaving for Barcelona this summer. Despite the rumors of his departure Spalletti remains focused he spoke to the media about the last several games of the season. “We have eight games left to play and they could prove decisive in shaping the future of this club and the future of this team, there’s a lot to play for and that’s what I’m focusing all my efforts on. There is a risk that our cup exit might have repercussions and knock us out of our stride but we’ve spoken together and said we need to be even more professional and work even harder on certain things, like getting behind the ball and winning tackles – that’s crucial if we want to get through this moment. We have to grin and bear it but the lads have looked full of desire and determination in the last few days.” Also there have been a few transfer rumors that continue to surface. A name that has been on Roma’s transfer radar is Atalanta’s Franck Kessie according to his agent Roma are winning the race for his signature but Kessie wants to evaluate all of his options before agreeing to anything. A player that has been linked to a move out of Rome is Kostas Manolas. There has been new information regarding his exit; his expected move to Inter Milan is starting to been seen as a done deal its almost certain that Inter will capture his signature. Chelsea has gone back in for Roma defender Antonino Rudiger as Conte hopes to persuade the German to the premier league but we will see what happens. The big transfer rumor coming out this week Roma have joined the race to capture highly courted Brazilian youngster as they are prepared to battle Manchester United and Arsenal for Yuri Alberto more info to follow. Luciano Spalletti would keep a very similar formation as last week rather than going back to usual 3-4-2-1. Roma would go with a 4-3-2-1 in goal for Roma it would be Serie A’s clean sheet leader Wojciech Szczesny with the rest he has had he should be in great form this week. Roma’s back four would remain nearly identical as only one change was made in the defense. Antione Rudiger would lineup at left-back than on the opposite side it would be Juan Jesus playing right-back; then the Center backs would be Kosta Manolas and coming in for Emerson would be Fazio. So a very similar defense that we saw Tuesday there would be only one change to the defensive midfield with Danielle De Rossi returning to the starting lineup after coming off injury coming in for Paredes. To join him Kevin Strootman would get another start joining DE Rossi in the defensive midfield. In the attacking midfield it would be the same as we saw a return of the three-headed monster; with Raja Nainggolan as the center forward with Mouhammed Salah as the left wing and Stephen EL Shaarawy on the right wing. Than Finally Sere A’s top goal scorers the big man the REDHOT Edin Dzeko. A very strong Roma side should have no problem picking up the three points.

come

The game kicked off as both teams looked up for the challenge early it was a bit on an unusual start to the game as Roma typically gets plenty of chances early in the game but on this occasion it was a bit stale for the open 20 minutes or so Roma still owned possession and looked like the better team based on what was seen but there weren’t any real attacks early. They was a lot of blocked shots by the Bolonga defense who were playing it very smart tactically defending the Roman attack being a little passive it was working but it’s not the approach I believe in. than finally after 25 minutes there final was a scoring chance as it would be Roma finally taking the opportunity. Erick Pulgar would concede a corner and Roma would take advantage of the opportunity as the moment would arrive on their first chance of the game. Stephen El Shaarawy would take the corner as he would cross the ball into the box; Danielle De Rossi would attempt the header but the header would miss wide however fortunately for Roma it would fall to Fazio’s feet and the Argentine International would smash it in the top corner to give Roma the 1-0 lead on their first shot of the game. It would be Fazio’s 4th goal of the season he has proven to be a huge bargain this season been Roma’s best defender this season he scored some good ones but this one was probably his very best a great strike. Bolonga would try to respond with a chance of their own just three minutes later as Adam Masina took a left footed shot from distance from outside the box but is shot would miss to the left seemed like he just got too anxious casing him to think about it too much. Simone Verdi gave Bolonga another chances but he’s shot was deflected by the defense ending the attack. Despite the goal the game was still a little dull with not a lot of chances in the first half but near the end of the first half we started to see more chances. El Shaarawy would get a decent chance late in the first giving roma a chance to double their lead. Mohamed Salah hit a cross into the center of the box to find El Shaarawy who attempted a header but it was saved by the keeper. Just a few minutes later a gracious chance arrived in the 41st minute Danieele De Rossi would pass it back to the middle of the pitch to Strootman; Strootman than would send a through ball to Raja Nainggolan who then sent a pass to Dzeko. Then The Striker sent a chipped pass to Mohamed Salah the Egyptian international would hit a one touch ball on the volley to put it in the back of the net to give Roma the 2-0 lead right before the half. It would be Salah’s 15th goal of the season in all competitions as well as his 4th against Bologna. As far as the goal itself it showed a great display of team work an amazing sequence a very good job by Roma on that goal four quick passes opened up the defense just brilliant. Roma would get one last chance before the end of the half Steph El Shaarawy took a shot in the dying minutes of the first half but his strike from deep missed to the right. Roma would take a 2-0 into the second half with goals from Fazio and Salah

Fazio Celebrating the opening goal on the game to give Roma the lead

Roma weren’t playing the best a serious lack of shots a lot less than they usual get however Roma put away the two chances they did have goals by Salah and Fazio gave them the advantage. Still though they needed to improve going into the second half the biggest them for roma going into the second half is they need to try to get Dzeko more involved as Dzeko hasn’t made an impact other than the assist that’s what Roma need to do to blow the game open more than it already is. Luciano Spalletti decided against making any subs as they would keep the core intact. Bolonga however would make one sub due to an injury as Federico Di Francesco replaced Simone Verdi. Early in the second half Bolonga would come out with good energy as they attacked the Roma goal getting to good chances early in the second half. Federico Di Francesco would send a cross into the box for Blerim Dzemaili but his header was dealt with by Szczęsny. Not long after that chance Bolonga would come back with a great chance they were nearly in when Federico Di Francesco hit the bar after taking a shot from a corner of the box. The game was flipping just slightly. Finally Dzeko would take a shot to give Roma a chance after having a uneventful first half. Stephen El Shaarawy would take a corner crossing the ball into Dzeko but his shot from close went a little too high not the best look but they are starting to get him into the game. Bolonga would give two more good chances but Szczęsny denied them on both occasions. Erick Pulgar stroke it from deep but was saved in the right corner. Daniele Gastaldello’s header off a corner was also dealt with by Szczesny once again as Bolonga failure to put their chances away would continue. Roma than go to their bench to make their first change of the game; Diego Perotti would come in to replace Stephan El Shaarawy on the rightwing. Diego Perotti like he always does would make an immediate impact off bench within minutes. Perotti would take a shot from the left side of the box but his short would be saved. The game started to bounce back in Roma’s favor once again as they started to give it back to Bolonga. As they game got deeper in the second Roma put together some good chances. Kevin Strootman took a deep shot off a corner kick but it was too high the game began to be once sided once again as Roma got another chance not long after. Diego Perotti would be nearly in putting himself it to good position to score once again. Perotti would take a shot from outside the box after receiving a ball from Nainggolan the Argentine’s strike was very close but he would just miss to the right. It looked like it would only be only a matter of time before Roma put a third in the back of the net. A minute later in the 75th minute it would happen It would be Edin Dzeko once again to keep his scoring streak going; Dzeko would get the goal but it would be Perotti and De Rossi that would make the magic happen. De Rossi sent a through ball from his own box down field to Perotti and Dzeko who were running raid down the pitch to create a breakaway Perotti would starting running with the ball as he would approach the danger area the keeper would come on to defend it. Perotti would than pass to Dzeko who was right next to him and Dzeko would just pass it into the net to give Roma the 3-0 lead. It would be Edin Dzeko’s 34th goal of the season in all competitions he has scored in 4 straight Serie a games. It must be said a great combination of skill and team work by Roma an unbelievable display of unselfish play. Bolonga had several chances but Szczęsny was keeping the clean sheet than with not long to go Totti came on for Dzeko for the last five minutes. They would be a few more chances but the score wouldn’t change as Szczęsny would get his serie a leading 14th clean sheet and Roma would pick up the three points.
