The total fee makes his the record signing of Feyenoord football club as he surpasses Club legend’s Dirk Kuyt 17 Million that Liverpool paid for Kuyt in 2006. This is an absolute massive signing one that could prove to be one of the best deals of the summer. With Kosta Manolas heading to Russia this is a very important signing the move only makes the defense stronger the defensive options Roma now have at the position is great they have a great deal of depth the move only strengthens the squad it will be very hard to score against them this season. Rick Karsdorp is a young talented player that has only just scraped his potential in how good in could be. Rick Karsdorp is only 22 years old but he has a fair amount of experience despite being at the tender age of 22 he has been with Feyenoord since he was a young kid. He played for a short period of time in South Holland playing for his local club VV Schoonhoven but it was very brief as he would arrive in Rotterdam very shortly after he was discovered by Feyenoord. In 2004 at just 9 years old he would move to Rotterdam to join the Feyenoord academy. He was an a lot different player in his early years playing for the Feyenoord young boys. In fact he wasn’t even a defender is his early days he played several midfielder positions anywhere from central mid to defensive mid to playing on the wing. The majority of his time at Feyenoord he remained in the midfielder it wasn’t until the 2014-2015 season that he was moved to a wingback role after being noticed for his progression as a wide player by his youth coach. Karsdorp spent a decade with the Feyenoord academy before being recognized and earning a call up. Despite not being a defender he showed great progression in his development during his time as a midfielder he attained skills that would make his a dangerous asset as a defender one of the most dangerous things in football is a defender with offensive ability the transition really molded his into the player he has become. During his time in the Feyenoord academy he started to catch the eyes of the Dutch respective International teams as he represented U-17 and U18 prior to making debut. At just 19 years old he made his debut with the Feyenoord senior team making 21 appearances in his first season mainly being played as a fullback as he thrived playing wide on the wing. He had a very good debut season as people were starting to notice his talented despite his progression Feyenoord ended their season in disappointment as they underperformed finishing 4th including finishing 12 points behind arch rivals Ajax which many felt that margin was unacceptable they only accumulating 59 points that season and there would be no Europe the following season which was very disappointing considering their standards. The following season he became an even more crucial member of the squad. The young Dutchmen made 35 appearances in his second season playing with the senior team a much improved season that saw them make it back into Europe. However Feyenoord once again didn’t do enough to challenge for the league as they saw PSV win the league of the second season in a row Feyenoord would finish third that season but they were far from a contender as once again they finished well behind their Rivals Ajax on points Feyenoord finished with 63 points which was 19 points behind their arch rivals Ajax who finished with 82points. However it wasn’t all disappointment as Karsdorp helped Feyenoord ignite a cup run that saw them make the final defeating Ajax in the process in the Round of 32. In the Cup Final they faced off against FC Utrecht, Feyenoord would win 2-1 to win the KNVB Cup (Dutch domestic Cup) as Karsdorp would win his first trophy of his career. Late in that season he was called up to the Dutch National team many teams were aware of his ability at this point it was clear that he arrived. Finally Last season he made 41 appearances commanding his own in the back with his tremendous defensive ability as well as his dangerous passing ability on the offensive end as he would dish out 10 assists in league play. Feyenoord would fail in Europe as his first European experienced wasn’t one to remember. Feyenoord would end up finishing 3rd in their Europa league group behind Fenerbahce and eventual winners Man United. Despite their disappointing performance in Europe the team finally challenged for the title as they would thrive in the league it would become Feyenoord vs Ajax for the title it was a title challenge that would go the distance the league would be determined on the last day of the season. When Feyenoord Legend Dirk Kuyt bagged a Hatrick as Feyenoord would win their first league title in 18 years Karsdorp would leave a champion. Feyenoord would win the league with 82 points scoring a whopping 86 goals in the league. As they finally got the better of Ajax as we saw Feyenoord would beat them to the title by one point. In three years at Feyenoord he made 101 appearances 19 assists and one goal in three seasons with the first team. He has a great amount of success for a 22 year old he is will be a key player for roma next season a huge signing for Roma and a big move for him as he prepares for the next stage of his career In Serie A after 13 years in Holland.
At Just 22 Years old Rick Karsdorp has developed as one of the best young talents in Europe leading Feynoored to their first league title in 18 years
Roma weren’t kidding about improving their defense with Rick Karsdorp officially signed it makes him Roma’s second defender signed this summer the addition of Hector Moreno from PSV earlier was a major upgrade for the defense this might be an even bigger one Karsdorp’s arrival to the capital instantly will make the Roman defense one of the best if not the best in Serie A. He may not have the experienced some of Roma’s other options have but he makes it up with his young age and incredible talent. Di Francesco typically plays four at the back a Role that Karsdorp should fit right into the Roman defense continues to get stronger he only adds to what is an already strong defensive team. With the fact that Rudiger has been taken off the market by Monchi Roma are developing a very strong back four on paper. This defense could give teams nightmares improved defense could be the thing keeping Roma from the Scudetto. The likely starting four will be Antino Rudiger, Hector Moreno, Fazio and Rick Karsdorp with options such as Alexandro Florenzi, Bruno Peres and Juan Jesus off the bench. From the outset a very strong defense that just got a lot stronger with the addition of Karsdorp to give them that youth in the team. The team will have some good team chemistry from the start as Moreno and Rick Karsdorp already know each other also Rick also has a good relationship with Roma midfielder Kevin Strootman who texted Karsdorp prior the move to let the youngster known he was there for him and would answer any question he had about the club the two also speak the same language which will help given the fact Karsdorp doesn’t speck Italian and has poor English. Rick Karsdorp is one of the most versatile defenders in world football having played midfield for almost ten years Karsdorp is one of the most gifted offensive defenders with a skill set that can take Roma up a level. It’s really hard to describe his playing style but when I think of him the words that come to mind are eccentric and explosive. Not only does he have rapid quickness but immense ball control it takes a special kind of player to get him off the ball. In open space and in one on one situations he is nearly flawless due to his high intelligence and the grasp of the game. He only recently became a fullback learning it quite quickly he has been often referred to as the train due to his incredible motor. the nickname doesn’t always fit though because he not just a threat on the wing in open space but he is able to stop and figure out the best option in where he needs to run as well as knowing what to do in those difficult situations he is a very thoughtful player always thinking of the best options. He is always very careful of what he does he plays with minimal touches of the ball being a logical thinker he is always trying to make the right play and very often he does. Another aspect of his game that has to be mentioned is his pinpoint passing is excellent with crosses and through balls when on the attack his delivery of the ball is second to none as he is able to place the ball to his attackers in great position something I’m sure Edin Dzeko is looking forward too. With that style of play integrated into the attack it will make his scoring chances for guys like Dzeko very easy Dzeko will just have to get a foot to it to score. he made 10 assists in all, the second highest in all with all other full backs in his wake, he made 1.4 key passes every 90 minutes (2nd among full backs) a large amount of them were crosses 5 crosses per 90 minutes of which 1.1 were accurate when he crosses less per game he has a higher success rate. When he crossed the ball a lot of the time he uses the inside of the foot isn’t always the most powerful shot but like I said he is a logical player by doing that its the logical choice you don’t want to hit the crosses too hard because he may miss and given to account spin the inside of the boot is the safest option. The last thing I will say about his playing style is the various tactical options he can provide even though he looks like an old school type of defender its really on the contrary his versatility is what makes him one of the best young defenders in Europe. He will likely be the starting right back in EDF 4-3-3 formation I see him making a major impact this season both defensively and offensively although he hasn’t quite grasped the balance of attacking to defending mentality this could be one of the signings of the summer with Manolas leaving he seems like the best replacement Roma could have gotten worth the money paid for him. Karsdorp will actually undergo knee surgery something Roma knew about he will not miss any time as he will be ready to play with the team during the preseason tour. Lorenzo Pellegrini and Maxime Gonalons will both be joining roma within 48 hours as well as Kasper Dolberg bid made its been amazing business by Roma so far these signings will only put pressure on Juventus as they are getting close to that level on paper. The Dutch International described Roma as the club of his dreams he ready for this challenge.
