Last Season Record:28-3-7 Finished: 3rd 87Pts
RB Rick Karsdorp, Feyenoord 13 Million – Champion last season with Feyenoored he brings the winning mentality to Rome at only 22 years of age he also brings that youth as well the potential of the Dutchmen is endless can prove to be top quality defender in Serie A I think he can make a serious impact on the Roma side this season. Going to be a huge star in the coming years despite their most expensive signing this summer I believe this move is a massive bargain the potential he has and what he can do the ways he can effect the game will show his value and will be one the key players in the coming years.
CB: Hector Moreno, PSV 5 Million – Adding an experienced defender who was a proven winner and Capped 85 times by his country will fill the void left by Rudiger to Chelsea he is a leader and will be infections on defense this season he will make an impact on both ends as he is a terrific defender with the ability to score. He known how to win he has won league titles with PSV and AZ at only 5 million he will prove to be one of the biggest bargains of the transfer window. Roma have pulled off quite a deal with this Mexican tactician a natural born leader for such a small price is a robbery done it in Spain and Holland he should find no problems hitting the ground running in Serie A Roma’s first ever Mexican will be a massive success in the this league he has all the tools to be one of the best defenders in this league.
LB: Aleksandar Kolarov Manchester City 5 Million – Despite being 31 years of age he has proven himself at every level shown his ability in Italy, England and back home in Serbia. He was a part of the Manchester City side that won two Premier League titles he is an older player with experience but a player that still has something to give he also could become vocal leader for Roma this season. Roma Didn’t have to pay very much for him he did used to play for Lazio in the past but once gets going I think he will make people forgot all about that.
CM,LW: Lorenzo Pellegrini Sassuolo Calcio,10 Million – The 21- Year old Midfielder was reunited with his old boss and New Roma Manager Eusebio Di Francesco retuning to Roma after being at Sassuolo for two seasons He returned a new product then he left as with his breathtaking Performance in the U-21 Euro’s he has shown his quality. He will play a massive part it Roma’s first team this season he is a young star in the making and it ready to show what he can do in the Roma shirt I’m not sure if he is a replacement for Salah or not but he will score goals for Roma not to mention Roma got him back for a Discount.
Roma’s Best Signing Cengiz Under The Future Of Roma
ST,LW: Cengiz Under, Başakşehir, 13 Million – The Young Turk In my opinion is Roma’s best signing of the summer One of the most talented young prospects in the world right now. At 19 Years old he was considered by many as the best player in the Turkish league with an incredible talent he is from my point of view the future of Roma. Under was wanted by a massive Premier League club as Manchester City was on the fringe of signing the talented youngster Until Roma came through and stole him from under their nooses he is in EDF’s first team plans he will fight for a starting spot and is the most likely will be the guy to replace Salah he is the most qualified player to do so at this current time. His talent is endless he has the complete package speed quickness dribbling ability scoring ability he plain and simple has it all he could very well break through into the starting 11 this season he is the future of this club. He described the Roma move as a dream come true he has been compared to Juventus’s Paulo Dybala and he has broken into the Turkish national team he has already scored for them. He has everything necessary to made the transition to superstar at only 13 million for the fee Roma robbed the bank.
CDM: Maxime Gonalons, Olympique Lyonnais, 4Million – Another cheap deal with the captain of Lyon a solid signing that is an upgrade for the Departing Leandro Paredes. Gonalons can slide in his vacant spot has plenty of experience at the top level having made over 300 appearances could be a starter or a good 2nd option off the bench he will give Roma a better option in that CDM spot and has the ability to run with Danielle De Rossi and Kevin Strootman a good signing for a small price.
ST: Grégoire Defrel Sassuolo Calcio, Loan Buy Option 15 Million – Another former Sassuolo brought to Rome from former Sassuolo boss Eusebio Di Francesco as Roma added a much needed striker in a loan deal with a mandatory buy after the first season. Defrel gives Roma another striker option with Edin Dzeko having to carry the load last season Defrel can come in weather as a starter or as another option off the bench he is a capable goal scorer as he has done it in Serie A for several years with his break out season last year he will add depth to Roma regardless of his Role.
Players that Signed New Contracts: Radja Nainggolan, Kevin Strootman and Danielle De Rossi
Loan Moves Made Permanent: Bruno Peres(Torino), Juan Juesus (Inter Milan), Fazio and (Spurs)
In Talks with: Lecister City’s Ryaid Mahrez, Real Madrid’s Lucas Vasquez and Barcelona’s Munir
LW: Mouhamded Salah, Liverpool 42 Million – The biggest loss this season was without a doubt Mohamed Salah the Egyptian winger in his two seasons in Rome was breathtaking and developed himself as one of the best players in the league. On 18 out of 20 teams he would be considered the best player. He is Roma’s second best player and is a massive loss despite the fact Roma still have The best player in the league in Radja Nainggolan and The leagues Top Scorer In Edin Dzeko but Salah was #2 In Serie A assists and was a top 10 scorer in the league as well. Salah scored 34 goals dishing out 23 assists in two seasons with Roma he will be surely missed he massively helped Dzeko last season assisting many of his goals he will be very hard to replace Roma however did get an astounding 42 Million a deal that could rise to 50 Million breaking Andy Carrol’s Liverpool’s transfer record of 35 Million. Roma received a great profit but lose one of their very best players he will be missed at Roma especially after his hattrick against Lazio we have taken him into our hearts and will always remember the little Egyptian we wish him the best of luck at Liverpool.
CB: Antonio Rudiger, Chelsea 29 Million – It had seemed that Rudiger was going to stay in Rome When it looked like Roma Defender Kostas Manolas was off to Russia but When the Greek Defender rejected his move to Zeint it put pressure on the Roma board to sell Rudiger to balance the books. Chelsea came in for him in a 29 million move a fee that could rise to 35 million. Rudiger was a key player last season and was Arguably one of the best defenders in Serie A last season. He struggled early in his Roma days but last season he became a very important player to the Roma’s defense he will be missed next season however it isn’t a crushing loss Roma have replaced him fairly quickly with the signings of Rick Karsdorp and Hector Moreno a very good deal for both sides the German will fit very well with Conte and Chelsea and Roma get a good profit from the deal. A very good player but Roma do have players that can fill that Role despite already having replacements he will be missed I hope he does well in the Premier League with Chelsea.
CDM: Leonardo Paredes, Zenit 27 Million – Roma’s young player of the year goes for the money although I could slag him off for the move I’m not going to it is pretty clear he went for the money. Despite that Leandro Paredes was a quality player for roma last season as he made his debut with the first team starting many games as well as coming off the bench as a super sub on many occasions as well. He was named the young player for the year award by me during the 2016-2017 Post season Review a title that he truly earned proving himself to be an impoarant first team player last season. Despite all that he still decided to make a shock move to Russia on his end it is a very poor choice Zeint is the biggest club in Russia but still isn’t a very glamourous league he will do well there but the level of competition isn’t great. On Roma’s end it is a very good deal getting 27 million for a player that they were able to replace by only spending 5 Million on Maxime Gonalons from Lyon a very good deal for Roma that’s a lot of cash for a player who only had played one full season for Roma. I don’t believe he will be missed by many for his choice to go to Russia but I will remember what he did this season even if he did go for the money.
GK ;Wojciech Szczęsny, Juventus – Roma had to say goodbye for their Goalkeeper of the last two seasons Szczęsny spent a two year loan at Roma from Arsenal. He become the best goalkeeper Roma have had in many years he did very well in his first season in Serie A but last season he took it to an another level leading Serie A in clean sheets and played a big role in Roma’s solid defense a season ago most Roma fans will have found memories of him at Roma myself included. It is unfortunate that he went off to one of Roma’s biggest rivals Juventus however he did not betray Roma in my eyes Roma wasn’t an option as they had already prepared for life without him. It wasn’t betrayal in the way Pjanic betrayed Roma in 2015 when he decided to leave for Turin against staying in Rome or signing for Bayern. Szczęsny left Arsenal for Juventus not roma even though he hadn’t played for Arsenal in two years I don’t believe he crossed any lines. Roma had prepared for his departure for a year they are Ready to give Allison the starting job the Brazilian keeper was brought in last season to replace Szczęsny Allison played all the Coppa Italia and Europa League games last season he has done well in Preseason and looks like he has what it takes to be the man Roma need between the sticks Roma are in good hands. As far as Szczęsny Juventus brought him in to replace legendary keeper Buffon when he retires I have nothing but good memories of Szczęsny and I wish him the best in the future. I cant wait to go up against him next season.
A.S Roma’s Projected Finish: 2nd
Coppa Italia: Champions
Champions League: Round of 16/ Quarterfinals
Welcome to the second season for The Everything Roma Blog Series Thank you for coming back for another season and Welcome if your new. Last season Roma had a recorded breaking season where They broke several team records as well as some personal record being broke. however this is a very different team than the one that we saw last season there have been several changes since Roma’s final game of last season in June When Roma earned Champions League football in the final minute of Totti’s last game . Roma had to saw goodbye to an iconic footballing legend in Francesco Totti as he switched out the cleats for the Suite as he as joined Roma as a sporting director working under Transfer Wizard Monchi. Also Their manager departed after his expiring contract to join Inter Milan. Roma have also lost Mouhamed Salah, Antonio Rudiger,Woich Szczęsny and Leonardo Paredes in the transfer market. Despite all that Roma still look in decent shape Roma went out and hired former Roma player Sassululo boss Eusebio Di Francesco as their new manager a very good hire in my opinion. Along with that for the first time in a while Roma splashed the cash in the transfer market thanks to new sporting director Monchi who arrived last season. He had a reputation of making magic happen the transfer market has pulled off 7 new signings as well as making a few loan moves from last season permeant and even handed out new contacts to 3 key players. Roma have kept a lot of their depth and are putting together a very good team that might be able to do the distance in the league the cup and the Champions league I’m not saying they will win it all but I think they have a team that can beat nearly anyone on their day I think the trophy drought will end this season I believe they will win the Coppa Italia this year despite the loses Roma are still a very strong team that will be hard to beat. Juventus wont walk it this season with Roma, Milan and Napoli are ready for an all out battle to the scudetto in what looks to be one of the most competitive Serie A seasons we have seen in quite some time .
After Roma’s record breaking campaign last season its unlikely they will be able to repeat that same success especially with all the changes going on but they still have a very strong team in their locker the team still possess real quality and with three weeks still remaining their are opportunities to strengthen the squad with Roma still trying to make a few deals happen Mahrez and Munir among them. I think it will be really important for Roma still start the season in good form at the current moment they probably don’t have enough to realistically take down Juventus but they are the shoe in favorites for second once again despite Milan major upgrades by Milan having spent over 100 million this summer and Napoli still a very strong team Roma are still better than both sides. The new look squad still looks exceptional going into the season If Roma do the business against the little teams that they always seem to lose to and do well against the big teams like they did last year they could have a really successful season. I think Dzeko is in for another big season again will he score nearly 40 goals this season like he did last year probably not but I see Dzeko scoring about 30 goals as he has gotten hang of this league and knows what he needs to do to dominate at this level. Roma scored over 100 goals last season in all competitions last season. I truly believe they could break 100 again with the scoring options they have and the signings they have brought in. Roma still has the leagues best player in Radja Nainggolan who just recently signed a new deal with Roma. The Belgium can effect the game in so many ways and I look for him to had another high scoring season the Duo of Dzeko and Radja Nainggolan will be proven to be lethal this season. The three headed monster will be found this season with Perotti and El Shaarawy possible creating a bigger beast than the three headed monster (Dzeko, Perotti and Salah) from last season. Roma made a lot of good signings for their midfield as well as still having Perotti and El Shaarawy to their disposal I can see them both being double figure scorers this season. Their defense has only just improved with Florenzi coming back the club has also made really good signings to their defense and some how Roma were able to hang on to their best defender Konsta Manolas it what will be surely a very good defense this season. With all these weapons on the attack and defense they have as well as Allison in goal coming off an impressive preseason as he has shown he is the right man for this job. I see Roma doing well in all competitions this season I have them finishing second with 85 Points I think they will win the Coppa Itaila to end the trophy drought and I see them making the Round of 16 In the Champions League and maybe even the quarterfinals. A great season awaits for Roma no more Totti which is sad but he will be helping the club behind the scenes to help Roma be a giant in Europe this season is the first step.
