Rainy Conditions Doesn’t Stop Roma as Dzeko Strikes Twice to Cruise Past Verona #104

A.S Roma 3 Hellas Verona 0FT

Stadio Olompico,Rome

Following a 0-0 Draw at home to Atletico Madrid in the champions league Tuesday night Roma get back to business as they return to their Serie A Journey in their 3rd match of this year’s Serie A campaign after a cancellation last week against Sampdoria they would host Serie A newcomers Hellas Verona as the Gialorssssi would Welcome them to the Stadio Olimpico for an addition Saturday Night football on a very rainy night in Roma. Roma headed into the game was heavy favorites despite not playing as Serie A game in several weeks they came to play and defend their ground against a team that will be battling relegation this season.  Due to four changes to their starting 11 by Di Francesco This game turned out to be an onslaught of Roman domination as Verona barley got a sniff all game Roma remained in control from the start to the end. In took Roma just over Twenty minutes to Break through in the first game with Radja Nainggolan opening his scoring account on the season to give Roma the early 1-0 lead. It would only go from bad to worse from there as Edin Dzeko Serie A’s top goal scorer from the season before would add to his tally to put Roma up 2-0 not long after their opening goal. Roma continued to apply pressure all half and have several other chances but it reminded the same Roma would go into the half with the 2-0 lead thanks to Dzeko and Nainggolan. In the second half it would again be all Roma throughout the game as Verona couldn’t even register a shot on target until very late. Roma would add to their very comfortable lead When Dzeko found the back of the net again for the second time make it 3-0 Roma with a little over 10 minutes into the second half. Roma continued to dominance. As it got even worse for Verona as they got a player sent off  We would see the debuts of Patrick Schick and Hector Monroe in late in the second half but the game was well over as Roma got an easy 3-0 win at home in very convincing fashion thanks to the tactical switch of EDF to silence the critics.

this is a good one mate

Manolas to Sign New Deal?

This week in the news there has been a very important news items happen. Before I get to the big new item there have been a few other news items we have to discuss the champions league campaign kicked off  with Roma’s opening 0-0 draw with Atletico. After this weeks champions league UFFEA selected their team of the week. Among the 11 selected was Roma’s own Alisson Becker who put together an inspiring performance against the Spanish giants making several key saves had a lot to do with Roma keeping a clean sheet with his 9 saves he was world class Tuesday. Fair play to him a wonderful Champions League Debut for the Roma’s goalkeeper.  Former Roma goalkeeper Doni has backed the club’s current No. 1, Alisson Becker Saying “I’m not surprised by his performance From the first day, I thought with regular playing time he would show his quality.I am glad that Roma have got him,” he added. “Indeed, I think it was a bargain. And for his part, he is in the right place to get better. Experience in Europe, and in European competition, is a huge thing for a South American goalkeeper – as long as they get regular opportunities to play.” Also this week Man United have targeted Roma youth product Mirko Antonucci as Jose Mourinho and company plan to sign him on a FREE this summer. Then Finally the big news after being speculated for the last few weeks it looks like Kostas Manolas is on the verge of agreeing to a new deal with Roma reportedly extending his contract that was due to end in 2019 to the year 2021 with an option for another year on top of that. It is believed that the new deal will include a 35 Million release clause however it is said that the release clause would only apply for foreign clubs as Italian clubs will have to bid more and Roma will have the power to reject deals over the 35 Million release clause. Roma installed this to avoid another Miralem Pjanic situation when the midfielder left for Juventus last summer after his 32 Million clause was activated even if it extends his stay by just one season it will be worth it in the end.

In this match Eusebio Di Francesco decided to shake things up a bit Roma’s new manager kept his 4-3-3 formation but made four changes to his side from Roma’s champions league game Tuesday . In goal between the sticks would be the Inform Brazilian Alisson Becker who as been nothing short of Brilliant this season. In the back four things would switch around a little bit in the defense only two defenders would remain in Roma’s team from Tuesday night. Aleksandar Kolarov would stay in his left back position the Serb has been one of Roma’s best players this season has proven he can still play at a high level. The left center back would Fazio as he is replaced Juan Jesus I think its a gutsy call given how well Juan has played but Fazio gives Roma a serious height advantage so it could work out ok. Beside Fazio would Kostas Manolas as he remains in his preferred right center back role that he plays so well. Finally the right back would be a player that has not be featured in the Roma side in quite some time Alexandro Florenzi makes his full return from the ACL injury he suffered last season to make his return to the side as Left back. I really like him in that spot because he can get up and down the flank as he is very effective in that role. In Central midfielder would be once again the Captain Danielle De Rossi. In the left Center midfield would be the heart of the team Serie A’s best Radja Nainggolan on the opposite side of Radja to take up the right center midfielder role would be Lorenzo Pellegrini to make his first start since his return to his hometown club this move is something I’ve  wanted EDF to do for quite some time. The front three would look very different then in the last few games. On the left wing coming in for Diego Perotti would Stephen El Shaarawy another playing I’ve really wanted to see get a start we know what he can do and he’s quick so I’m glad he has been given a chance. On the left wing there would also be a change with Roma’s Turk wunderkind Cengiz Under  coming in for Defrel getting his first start in the Roma colors another good move for Roma because the kid is quality. Finally up front as the main striker the Roman Scoring machine Edin Dzeko I expect him the use this game to get back into his 2016-2017 form A very good side that EDF has put together with the likes of Schick and Perotti on the bench.

TEAM 2

After speculation and preparation for the match we got ourselves under way in Rome in a opportunistic game for the Giallorossi a chance to make a statement. From very early in the game it was abundantly clear that the two teams were on completely different scales as Roma’s quality is just on a different level compared to Verona. It would show very early in this match; it was a dominate performance from Roma even from the early parts of this game. There was an onslaught of chances by Roma in the opening ten minutes. Stephen El Shaarawy would get a very early chance just two minutes in taking a short shot from the side of the box after receiving a pass from Pellegrini but El Shaarawy’s shot was saved by the Verona keeper. Despite not scoring El Shaarawy used his speed to get open something he does very well. A minute later Roma would get another chance to give Roma the early lead with Dzeko finding Pellegrini inside the box but the youngsters shot just missed but it was a good effort. Roma continued to look very sharp getting even more chances with Dzeko trying a shot from the center of the box just prior to the ten minute mark even though the shot was blocked it was a wonderful chance if the keeper had lost concentration it would have been a goal. Roma looked sharp as tack their passing was really smooth and were involving Florenzi and Kolarov running up and down the flanks to help the attack something both players are really good at. Moise Kean tried to give Verona a chance but his shot was really poor as Alisson was unchallenged he didn’t even flinch a very poor effort. Roma continued to be on the front in every sense having complete and udder control of the game Roma were slowing chipping away at it as they continued to get into scoring position. Roma’s first big chance of the game came just Prior to the twentieth minute when De Rossi fought to keep the ball near the danger era and gave a quick pass to the Roma’s Youngster Cengiz Under the Turk received the ball inside the box and fired a very well hit shot but he connected with the cross bar to deny Roma of the goal but it must be said great intelligence by the Turk to get his self in the space to execute the play. At this point of the game it really started to pour down making the pitch more difficult to play on. However that didn’t stop Roma after continuous one way traffic the Giallorossi broke through in the 22nd minute. Roma showing great team display in what would be a quick fire goal; Pellegrini stole the ball from Verona where Dzeko caught the ball in space than Dzeko gave a wonderful pass into El Shaarawy right out side the box The Italian gave a one touch pass to Radja Nainggolan the midfielder put it right past the keeper to give Roma the 1-0 lead to score his first goal of the season. An unbelievable team goal for Roma it would only continue. Verona had a few more chances but were very wasteful with Alisson not having to do much once again. then Roma would strike again in the 32th minute Just recently fit Florenzi took the ball down the plank near the dangerous area dribbling down deep in to their territory then Florenzi just before the ball was about to go out he cut the ball back inside to sending the defender to the ground. Florenzi then took one dribble towards the box and sent a magnificent cross into the box where he found the 6’4 Bosnian to head it in back of the net as Dzeko gave Roma the 2-0 lead. It would be his 2nd goal of the season a wonderful goal but a lot of the credit needs to go to Florenzi who basically orchestrated the entire play did a great job losing the defender to sent a picture perfect cross into a dangerous era and standing at 6’4 Dzeko he was always going to connect on it Florenzi certainly doesn’t look very injured to me he has made his impact right away had a wonderful game.  Roma nearly made it three when Radja connected with Dzeko on a cross but this time his header was slightly off. Roma would continue to apply pressure but after 45 minutes the half would end with a 2-0 lead to Roma thanks to goals from Dzeko and Nainggolan.

El Shaarawy Connects with Radja Nainggolan to Give Roma the Early Lead.

It was complete one way traffic in the first half as Roma was fully in control throughout the match so far the lineup change really benefited Roma through the first half as we saw El Shaarawy, Under, Pellegrini and epsically Florenzi all made their impact in the match. The differences in class was really obvious Alisson wasn’t threatened at all Verona didn’t register a single shot on target as the ball ended up on Verona’s half the majority of the time. In the early stages in the second half their was no real difference as Roma continued dominate. About 10 minutes into the second half we saw real getting a very real chance with excellent team work as Radja Nainggolan and El Shaarawy connected once again as Radja sent a headed pass to El Shaarawy just out side the box and the winger took a crack on goal a great chance but was saved by the keeper. This is why I like Shaarawy as a starter he has quick pace and knows how to get into scoring positions as well as having subline delivery as a passer. Roma would only get stronger and stronger as the game progressed they had the right tactics going into game and it only continue to improve as they got harder and harder to defend. Roma ten minutes later would put the icing on the cake. In the 61st minute about 10 meters in front of the halfway life deep on the left wing Aleksandar Kolarov was taking the ball up the flank sent a subline through ball into the box and Edin Dzeko made a slide connecting with the ball with his left foot as he beat the keep slotting the ball in the bottom corner to make it 3-0 to Roma. Another team goal as just put away his 3rd goal of the season scoring his 3rd goal in three games as Dzeko clearly has can still score goals with ease. Roma were running mayhem on Verona and the visitors as no response for anything Roma were doing. Minutes later Dzeko got another chance from Deep but the keeper dealt with it. Dzeko would get yet another chance within minutes as Florezni gave a another pitch perfect cross into Dzeko but his shot was too high. Florenzi showing that his injury hasn’t held him back he still is quality and Roma will be very happy that he is back. The chances would only continue as Dzeko would connect with Under with a through ball creating a break but the youngsters shot went wide.  Edin Dzeko’s shot came close minutes later after receiving a ball fro Florenzi but just missed. At this point Roma made two changes.  A Raw Gerson getting a chance replacing Cengiz Ünder who I thought did well a very good debut. Also coming on to make his debut Record Signing Patrik Schick getting a run out in the Roma colors for the first time coming in for Radja Nainggolan who was one of the best players on the pitch. He made a very good impact early with a opportunistic chance a few minutes in to his debut. As he took a hard shot from outside the box that stung the keepers hands. In the 82nd minute Danielle Verde final gave Verona a shot on target but Alisson saved it. Hector Moreno made his Roma’s debut as well as getting a quick run out coming in for Manolas. there were a few more chances but the nail was allready in the coffin as Roma earned a very convincing 3-0 win

Dzeko Adding his second goal of the game to put the Icing On the Cake

Todays game was a very convincing performance from Roma this is the Roma team that we have missed the last few games the potential is absolutely there they just need to be able to channel it on a consistent basis. From the beginning of this game to the end of it Roma were a class above Verona as they struggled to even get anything going. The changes that were made worked perfectly as all the players that got moved into the starting 11 performed very well. The addition of Under, El Shaarawy and Pellegrini added pace and technical ability to the side. I also thought when Schick came on as sub he looked very good he isn’t at 100% yet but during his run out I thought he look sharp with his passing and he was able to get himself in good positioning quite easily he didn’t seem to be nervous he just settled right in there look very confrontable on the ball once he gets fit I think he will do very well in the front three. The team chemistry was really good everyone seemed to be on the same page and all three Roma goals were team plays. I thought Florezni who hasn’t played for over a year looked sharp as a tack ran the panels with Kolarov very well getting a assist and setting up several chances he didn’t miss a beat he is a player I see as a starter from this point forward. Dzeko looked in great form again and looks to have carried over  last years form into this season which was one of my concerns going in because if Dzeko cant score Roma would be in trouble. I am no longer worried about it Radja Nainggolan also looked very sharp it was a great performance all-around. Roma follow this up with matches against Benevento and Udinese in the league games they should getting maximum  points from before having to play AC Milan, Napoli and Chelsea in a row in a few weeks time this win takes them to 6 points with a game back. Edin Dzeko is my man of the match not only did he score 2 goals but he was instrumental leading the forward line as it caused Verona many problems. This was a proper Roma performance from Di Francesco and his men.
