El Shaarawy’s is The Man of the Hour as Roma win Three In a Row #109

AS Roma 3 Udinese 1FT

Stadio Olimpico, Rome

Following Roma’s back to back wins against Hellen Verona and Benevento Roma heads back home as they continue through their journey in Serie A in their 4th match of this years campaign in the Italian top flight. The Giallorossi would Welcome Udinese to the Stadio Olimpico. Roma won the season series last season In their two meetings last year Roma won 4-0 and 1-0 over the two games in fact Roma have won 7 of their last 10 games against Undinese. So Roma would come into the game as heavy favorites and Roma are in excellent form having won 2 in a row going into this game Roma having a chance to make it three straight. Roma would maintain their top form early despite an early chance from Undinese it was all Roma early as they were in complete control in the early stages of the game Roma would break them down very early as Roma took the early lead a little over ten minutes into the match when Edin Dzeko found the back of the net for the 6th time this season to give Roma the 1-0 lead. Udinese did their part on trying to create scoring chances of their own but their was only so much they could do as Roma doubled their lead at the half-hour mark as El Shaarawy put away his first goal of this season as Roma went 2-0. Then right before the half time break Roma would get a late chance to extended their lead as El Shaarawy found the back of the net again to make it 3-0 right before the half a very dominated half by the Roma. The second half Roma maintained their lead but Undinese was up for it challenging and creating chances when ever they could Roma still remained control throughout the game but Undinese gave made Roma work for it. The score line stayed the same for the majority of the second half Roma had a chance to increase their lead even more in the last few minutes when Perotti was given a penalty but The man who never misses missed the penalty as Perotti hit the bar. Undinese would go the other way and score shortly after Larsen scored to get one back for Undinese to make it 3-1. Despite that it was too little too late as the writing was allready on the wall as Roma win their third straight taking the Romans to 12Pts from a possible 15 another tactical masterclass from Eusebio Di Francesco and his men.

Eusebio Di Francesco and the Giallorossi once again made adjustments to the side after having made changes in Roma’s last two games. In their accustom 4-3-3 formation Roma would make a whopping five changes partly due to Radja Nainggolan coming back into the side I like the rotations Di Francesco is making the last few games it gives them Depth. In goal between the sticks it would be the BIG Brazilian the In-form Alisson Becker he has done very well and has been on of the best keepers in Serie A this season so far. In the back their would be two changes to their defense. At left back would be Aleksandar Kolarov who as been one of the shining stars this season for Roma he is only Roma defender this season to have started every game this season he is really looking like a bargain. Next to him as the left center back starting his third game in a row the 6’5 beast Fazio who can use his height to his advantage on set pieces. Beside him returning to the starting lineup the Greek Kostas Manolas in him custom right center back position replacing Juan Jesus. Then bedside him getting another start after coming off Injury Alexandro Florenzi at right back replacing Bruno Peres. A very strong defense I’d like to see this lineup more frequently as I believe this is our best defensive set up. In the middle we would see two changes to the center midfield retuning to the starting 11 would be the Captain Danielle De Rossi replacing Maxime Gonalons who made his debut last week. On the left side would be Radja Nainggolan returning to the lineup coming off injury replacing Lorenzo Pellegrini then finally on the right side getting another start it would be  Kevin Strootman. In the front three Roma went with a speedy trio on the left wing it would be Diego Perotti who has been quite good this season on the other side on the left wing replacing Cengiz Under would be Stephen El Shaarawy who Id  like to see him as a starter more consistently I really like what he brings to the team then finally upfront as the main striker the RED HOT Roman scoring machine Edin Dzeko who has scored 5 goals in 5 games. A very good side my preferable lineup I really like the striker force in this game a lot of speed and lets not forget they have quality off the bench a very good team.

After coming off a short week having played as recently as Wednesday Roma were ready to kick it off once again as both team were ready to kick off on a Saturday afternoon in the Italian capital as they got underway at the Stadio Olimpico. Despite Udinese being heavy underdog against a team they cant seem to figure out it was the visitors that  had the games first chance in the opening 60 seconds. Jakub Jankto hit a cracking shot from outside the box but it was saved by Alisson but a serious scoring attempt that caught Roma off guard. After the first few minutes Roma got back to their normal self as they looked in control but Udinese still look pretty good a lot better then Verona and Benevento. However it didn’t take very long to get things going as they would break the deadlock very early. In just the 12th minute Radja Nainggolan after receiving  a pass from De Rossi took on two defenders just outside the box but fell down; the midfielder than connected on a sliding pass from the ground to Dzeko inside the box and Dzeko does what Dzeko does and slotted it into the bottom left corner to give Roma the 1-0 lead. It would be Edin Dzeko’s 6th goal of the season. With the Goal he moves to 17th on Roma all time scoring list passing Carlo Galli and puts his even with Ruggiero Rizzitelli with 55 goals but Dzeko has done it in half the amount of games. After the goal it swayed more in Roma’s favor as the Giallorossi had several goal chances within minutes of the opening goal. Shortly after Diego Perotti linked up with Dzeko the Bosnian hit it from outside the box a hard hit ball that stung the keepers hands but the keeper got to it as he was able to pick it up. Roma look sharp all there passes good their moment was really good it really began to lean their way. A little later Roma got a wonderful chance when the speedsters linked up as Perotti hit a cross into the box to El Shaarawy the Italian connected on a strong header as it went just wide a glorious play by El Shaarawy as he used his speed and strength to beat his defender to the ball despite not scoring it would come.  Roma would double at about the half hour mark in the 30th minute Strootman sent a through ball to Dzeko inside the side of the box and Dzeko put the moves on the defender faking him out several times confusing the defender right before the Bosnian picked out a pass sending into the center of the box Where El Shaarawy side footed it into the back of the net for his first goal of the season making it 2-0 Roma. tremendous play on two accounts Dzeko for his skill moves he put on the left back as well as his perfect pass. As well as EL Shaarawy using his pace to get into great position to score. After the goal Undinese would get a few chances as they tried to stop the game from slipping away with Rodrigo de Paul’s strike being saved and Maxi Lopez’s  header from a cross just going wide.

El Shaarawy scores his fist goal of the Season in the first half of Roma’s 3-1 win.

They started to get after it looking a little better but it wouldn’t last. As El Shaarawy had other ideas. In the 45 minute right before the break El Shaarawy would find the back of the net again. After getting away from the defender using skills moves Diego Perotti sent a well hit rabona cross from the top of left of the box however the ball ended up going to the defenders feet but opportunistic El Shaarawy came in and stole the ball after a poor touch putting it into the bottom right corner to score his second of the game. Unmarked EL Shaarawy flew in with his sonic speed to not only get to the ball but steal it and score with in a matter of seconds scored great ball play by the Italian. Play like this is why he should be starting every week. That would end the first half with Roma up 2-0 thanks to Dzeko and two goals from EL Shaarawy

El Shaarawy puts away his second of the day right before the half.

Another very strong half of football from Roma they looked really good taking advantages of their opportunities. El Shaarawy stole the show a bit showing excellent awareness getting into scoring positions twice. Roma had more than a big enough lead to sit on I expected Roma to still go after it but with Udinese down three I expected them to do the same down three goals they have nothing to lose. Despite Udinese looking decent at certain points during the game the Romans still remained in control. As Dzeko gave Roma an early chance in the second half when the Bosnian shot from outside but he missed to the left. Udinese went to the bench to shake things up as Seko Fofana came in for Antonin Barak. Udinese continued to try and get back in the game with an audacious effort as Giuseppe Pezzella sent a well hit cross into Larsen but the shot ended up going wide. However Roma would still continue to put themselves in position to score after a corner Radja Nainggolan sent in a cross connecting with El Shaarawy once again but this time his shot went wide. Shortly after Dzeko took a shot from the left of the box but his well shot ball was denied by the keeper. Udinese got another chance later on when .Jakub Jankto tried striking from deep but was unsuccessful as his poor touch sent the ball into the stands a wasted chance. Roma would try to hit back with another chance as El Shaarawy linked up with Florenzi but the shot once again was too wide.  With about 20 minutes to go Roma went to their bench and made to changes Grégoire Defrel replacing Edin Dzeko the game is cooked so Roma didn’t want to wear out their top scorer. Also Kolarov came out to make room for Hector Moreno as the Mexico international would make his second appearance.  Rijad Bajic gave his best crack on goal for Udinese but Alisson kept his cool to make the save. Roma would make their last sub of the game as Bruno Peres replaces Alessandro Florenzi. Moments after the sub Roma had a chance to increase their lead as EL Shaarawy created yet another opportunity as he sent a through ball into Grégoire Defrel but Defrel’s shot was saved. Then deep in the game Diego Perotti was brought down in the box and was given a Penalty to add to the lead. However the Man who never misses from the spot missed as he hit the post. The miss sparked a Udinese goal  Jens Stryger Larsen put it in the bottom corner from a through ball to make it 3-1 as he rips up Alisson’s clean sheet there was very little that Alisson could have done as Udin pulled one back. In the last minute of the game Udinese tried a late surge following a set piece situation but Alisson stopped an ambitious attempt. that would end the game as Roma pull of another victory making it three wins in a row as the Giallorossi crack the top 4.

Roma again looked very strong winning in convincing fashion to win their third in a row Roma finally look like themselves after struggling in their opening few games its hard to really put them at the same level as Roma’s side from last season but they look like they will be able to still score goals at that level which is going to be very important in the title chase. They have scored 11 goals and only conceded one goal in the last three games. Di Francesco really has them organized playing to their potential the way his tactics and rotation to the side it allows Roma to attack in many ways. In the game its self Roma were very sharp thorough out the game Roma’s attack of Diego Perotti, El Shaarawy and Dzeko worked very well in todays game. Putting two speedsters and a clinical finisher together is a very smart move because the wings can use their speed to breakaway and give the striker many chances. I would recommend keeping those three up top for the next game it was all-round a great performance with Radja Nainggolan back they were able to rip apart their defense quite easily he made a major impact in this game. Udinese lack the quality to match what Roma has to offer but I thought they did a very good job making the defense work for it being the first team to score on this defense in several games they had the right approach so fair play to them they played quite well despite the score line. Roma was just too much for them the tactical changes once again played a big role in the result the sale of Salah was criticized but Roma added a lot of depth with the money they spent this season Roma has more depth this season then the season before it somewhat adds another dimension. The man of the Match today is Stephen El Shaarawy he got the start to today scoring 2 goals in a 15 minute period in the first half but it wasn’t just the goals he put himself and teammates in scoring position and showed great effort. With the win it puts them in the top 4 with one game still to play a very good start to the season. Following this result Roma play Qarabag FK on Wednesday in the Champions League before they play a massive match against AC Milan in Milan a game Roma I think will win but a big match none the less. If Roma continue to play like they had Milan will struggle to Stop Roma.
