Roma 2 A.C Milan 0 FT
San Siro Milan
Following 4 successive wins against Verona,Benvento,Udinesse and Qarabag Roma looked to remain in good form to try and make it 5 wins in a row. As Roma continued their Serie A journey in Match day six of their Serie A campaign. They went on the road to the Milan directly after their champions league win in mid week. As AC Milan Welcomed Roma to the San Siro in a statement game for both teams with an emotional aspect to the match. With Milan’s Vincenzo Montella and Roma’s Eusebio Di Francesco former teammates with Roma as the two of them were apart of Roma’s 2000-2001 Scudetto winning side as well having played together at Empoli. The two of them have described each other as Brothers in football. The Question going into the match was who would outduel the other. This game also had a level of importance as it was a statement game to solidify either Roma or Milan’s title challenge it would be a real test. Roma had won the last three games against Milan and are unbeaten in 9 out of the last ten games so all signs pointed to Roma would it be the squad developing Roma or the Money Machine that is AC Milan. It lived up to the hype in the sense it remained close as both teams shared chances in the first half Roma more then Milan but the Milan side was getting chances as well a few near goals for Roma. After the first half it remained even in a 0-0 game. In the second half the game went up a notch as both teams seemed to get after it but still no goals but goals would come as the man of the big occasion delivered for Roma. As Edin Dzeko’s strike gave Roma the 1-0 lead late in the game to score his 7th goal in six games. Then in a blink of an eye Roma doubled it with Alexandro Florenzi’s goal to burry Milan once and for good as Roma go on to win their 4 straight win against Milan. Di Francesco outdueling his former teammate and friend in a big clash that sees the Giallorossi take all their points back to the capital.
Di Francesco again making adjustments to his team as he seeming to do it a little bit before every match in his 4-3-3 formation he has made many changes over the last couple weeks something that has seemed to have worked so far so see him continuing these sorta of tactical adjustments. In goal between the sticks would be the BIG Brazilian the Alisson Becker the big man has adapted to life quite easily after being second choice keeper last season he has commanded his role he was given. There would be one change in the back as they defense stayed quite similar. At Left back would be the Serb Aleksandar Kolarov he is becoming one of the main parts of the defensive core. Next to him as the left center back would be the BEAST of a man 6’5 Fazio Roma’s tallest player. Beside him would be Kostas Manolas one of the leagues best’s defenders the leader in the back. Then coming in for Florenzi who played higher up the field would be Bruno Peres who would take that right back position. In the midfield we would see the exact same trio from last week; Danielle De Rossi the Roma captain would be in the middle as the Central midfielder. Beside him to the left would be Kevin Strootman a very underrated player in this league. On the right would be one of the best midfielders in Serie A Radja Nainggolan a very strong midfield unit. In the front on the left wing would be former Milan player Stephen El Shaarawy who has been in terrific form as of late deservingly getting another start. On the right wing coming in for Perotti would be the very versatile Alexandro Florenzi who joining the front three for this match after playing in the back the last few games. Then finally as Roma’s main man the scoring machine the RED HOT Edin Dzeko who has scored 6 goals in the last four games. A very good side with a fit Pellegrini on the bench available a strong enough side to get the better of Milan.
After speculation and preparation for this match between two of Italy’s biggest sides a battle between The Kings of Milan against the Kings of Rome a massive match on this Sunday night fixture under the light in front of a sell out crowd at the San Siro two sides only one place apart in the table in a testy match involving two ambitious title challengers. Two friends Roma’s Manager Eusebio Di Francesco and Milan boss Vincenzo Montella going head to head as the game got underway on this Sunday night. The match didn’t kick off with non stop action out of the gate in fact it started out quite dull it was unclear from the beginning stages of the game who was in control. Finally about twenty minutes in the game got its first chance. When Kevin Strootman tried striking the ball from deep but his shot missed to the right it kept Donnarumma on his toes but didn’t poise a real threat on goal very shortly after Florezni showed his worth as an attacker as the Italian hit a cheeky shot from the side of the box a close shot but it was saved in the bottom corner. At this point Roma did seem to maintain little bit of control. Milan would get a chance of their own arguably their best chance of the game when Franck Kessie took a well hit shot from out side the box but he was a little too high. Unfortunately a few minutes later Roma would get an injury crisis as Kevin Strootman had to come off due to an injury he is a player that has dealt with injuries many times so I really hope its not to serious because we need him. Lorenzo Pellegrini came on to replace the injured Strootman. A few minutes after the delay Milan got another chance Hakan Calhanoglu tried from deep a close strike but missed. Roma got a real crack at goal off a free kick sent in from Kolarov he found Dzeko who took a shot from a tight angle but he just misfired as it stayed even. Lucas Biglia followed that up with a chance of his own but the former Lazio player took a horrid shot going well over. A few minutes before half Roma had a late chance with Radja Nainggolan giving the ball to Pellegrini and the Italian international hit a cracking ball from the right side of the box but was saved as the first half would come to an end in a 0-0 game.
Kevin Strootman leaving the game in the first half due to Injury We hope its not too serious
A much more efficient half from Roma then Milan but both teams struggled for good chances in a game like this is comes down to coming through in the crucial moments. It was a very physical defensive game with both teams creating significantly less chances then normal but to be honest I like the defense approach and made the game more tense because it did seem like it was going to be a race to score first and the team that does it was likely going to win. However their was a serious lack of chances up to this point in fact it wasn’t until about 60 minutes to see the first chance of the second half it was really looking like it was going to be a 0-0 draw. In a physical game where we saw a lot of fouls and cards we finally had a chance in the second half however it would be another a miss firing player as Andre Silva missed from the six yard box. Minutes later Roma would have a chance of their own and what a chance it was. Lorenzo Pellegrini sent a brilliantly through ball into Florenzi and the winger took a good shot that gave Donnarumma a tough chance but the teenager got to it to make the save. Leonardo Bonucci responded moments later Alisson would make a game defining save as the Roma keeper saving Bonucci’s thunderous shot off a blocked shot it Milan’s best chance of the game. A few minutes later Allison make another terrific save in a big moment as he denied Kalinic after receiving the ball from a cross he took a very powerful low shot and Alisson kept his body low to grab the ball in a very difficult save from the Roma keeper it was something that turned the game on its head. The greatest players come through in the biggest moments in the 71st minute Dzeko showed Milan why he is one of the most feared scorers in Europe. Pellegrini sent a well timed pass to Dzeko as he fell then Dzeko with an Milan player trying to disrupt him stroke the ball from well outside as the ball flew into the top right corner an absolute wonder strike to give Roma the 1-0 lead with under 20 minutes to go. It would be Dzeko’s 8th goal of the season as the Bosnian delivered the strike it the game’s most crucial moment showing he is a true leader of this team. Milan tried to hit back right away but Silva’s miss and Alisson’s save on Borini kept Roma in the lead. It would then go from bad to worse as Roma took advantage yet again in the 77th minute El Shaarawy took a decisive touch allowing Radja Nainggolan to get into to space the Belgium stroke it from just inside the box a power shot that was blocked by the keeper however the opportunistic Florezni picked up the rebound to smash it into the back of the net with an ecstatic finish to give Roma the 2-0 lead. As Florenzi scored his first goal of the season but what a touch for El Shaarawy to ignite the attack. As Roma all but close out the game. About 10 minutes later the final whistle would blow as Roma once again get the better of the Milan at the San Siro.
Edin Dzeko’s wonder strike Gives a Roma the Lead in the games biggest moment
In a crucial statement game Eusebio Di Francesco and Roma delivered in what I believe was a must win game given their upcoming games. Despite Roma clearly being the better team on paper whenever you play Milan it is a massive match its not an easy place to grind out victories. This is a place where Roma now has made their second home as they have taken points from Milan in their house on three consecutive occasions. Much like many of their previous victories Di Francesco adjusted his tactics and made key decisions that led to the victory he is a tactical genius. As far as the game itself Roma and Milan battled it out in front of a big crowd in hostile territory but it was the hosts that were intimidated the Milan giants had took several chances but just were ineffective in front of goal I don’t want to be too harsh but they have a team full of misfiring strikers its not surprising that they had lost every game they have played against quality opposition and even struggled against inferior opposition. Milan didn’t have a shot on target until the second half the Roman defense played very well to disrupt the flow of things not to mention Alisson’s world class save on Bonucci Milan’s only real scoring chance all game. Milan didn’t put their best foot forward in this game as Roma showed why they are the better side. Roma did a lot of great things in this game epsically in the second half for the most part the first half was rather flat from both the difference here is Roma delivered when it counted and that is why they won this game having the more quality helps but coming up in the big moments matters above all else and tonight Dzeko delivered when he counted. Dzeko is my man of the match he came up big when it counted and he always seems to be that guy for Roma he has 8 goals in all competitions so far this season he is serious about retaining him golden boot. Following this game We head into the international break at the perfect time with tough matches upcoming Roma when club football returns Roma’s first appointment will be the Derby Del Sole as Roma open their doors for top of the table Napoli in what will be a very tough game. They will then follow that up in the Champions league against Group leaders Chelsea in London. Not the best performance from the Romans but they rose to the occasion when it mattered most. Milan are given a valuable lesson from the Giallorossi Money cant buy success did Milan waste? 100 Million its looking like it.
