A.S Roma 3 Chelsea 3 FT

Stamford Bridge, London

Following Roma’s loss at home to league leaders Napoli Roma would resume their champions league Campaign in match day 3. In possibly their biggest match in the Champions league up to this point as Roma went on the road to face of against Premier League Champions Chelsea as the Premier League Giants welcomed the Giallorossi. Chelsea and Roma were both coming off losses over the week they were looking to jump start their seasons. Both clubs were facing injury crisis with Roma being without their best defender Kostas Manolas and Chelsea without their best player N’golo Kante. However Chelsea would get striker Álvaro Morata back and Roma would see the return of Kevin Strootman as well as Stephen El Shaarawy so their would be a boast of confidence for both sides. Having seen the result of their Group C rivals Atletico Madrid dropping points in a 0-0draw against Champions league opponents Qarabag. It would give a momentous opportunity for both clubs to try and secure their place in the knockout stage. Going into the game Chelsea were slight favorites but both team were up for it in this massive European night under the lights. Roma from the start looked like the stronger side but it was Chelsea took advantage of an early chance. In the opening ten minutes Davis Luiz scored a wonder goal to Chelsea the early 1-0 lead. Roma continued to dominate as they as it looked like Roma would equalize in a matter of time but that didn’t turn out to be the case as a mistake by Roma led to a Chelsea counter attack with Eden Hazard scoring finishing off an attack to put Chelsea up 2-0 late in the first half. Roma allready down by two goals attempted to strike back with a goal of their own. It worked minutes later Ex-Man City player Aleksandar Kolarov found the back of the net to get one back right before the half as Chelsea lead 2-1 at the break. It continued to be a back and forth battle then mid way through the second half Dzeko gave Roma a lifeline scoring a stunner to equalize 2-2. Dzeko score again minutes later to put Roma in front 3-2. Chelsea would then give a response of their own when Eden Hazard scored again to make 3-3. The two teams battled and battled but it would end in a 3-3 thriller. Roma put in an inspiring performance to fight back and salvage a point as Roma look to qualify for the last 16.

Roma manager Eusebio Di Francesco changed his usual formation in last weekends loss to Napoli however the Italian would go back to what he knowns in this match. As Roma returned to their usual 4-3-3 formation with several adjustments due to their injury crisis going in this massive champions league match against Chelsea. In goal would be the BIG MAN from Brazil Alisson Becker who has been in tremendous form going into this match. at Left back would be a player that knows Chelsea well former Man City man Aleksandar Kolarov. At center back it would be Juan Jesus a player who ahs done very well this season when selected. Next to him at the other center back position would be the Argentine giant Federico Fazio who comes in for the recently injured Kostas Manolas. Then finally to make up the defense at right back would be the speedy Brazilian Bruno Peres. In the central midfield it would be Maxime Gonalons coming in for Roma captain Danielle De Rossi then on the right side returning into the team coming off on injury would be Kevin Strootman who would be replacing Lorenzo Pellegrini. On the left would be one of the best midfielders in the world long time Chelsea target Radja Nainggolan and Captain for this game. Up front in the attack would be Diego Perotti occupying the right  to give Roma that speed on the wing. On the left wing coming on to replace Alexandro Florenzi would be the 20- Year old Brazilian prospect Gerson who would be on the right and Up front the would be the BIG MAN Roma’s scoring machine the RED HOT Edin Dzeko who continues to score goals for Roma.  Eusebio Di Francesco also would have Stephen El Shaarawy, Alexandro Florenzi and Lorenzo Pellegrini off the bench given their lack of option this still was a very strong Roma side.

DERED

This widely anticipated game was about to get underway in London at Stamford Bridge One of Italy’s finest one of England’s finest No Totti No Terry a different Era since their last meeting but the Champions league GAME OF THE Week was ready for kick off as it began. Roma started off the game surprisingly in control of possession as Roma were attacking early the ball ended up on Chelsea’s side of the pitch for the opening stages of the game. Roma looked really sharp out of the gate however it was Chelsea’s Álvaro Morata who had the first chance of the match. Bakayoko found Hazard who was running in free space near the Roma’s danger area the winger then sent it through to Morata trying to hit Roma on the counter Morata had a good shot in the box but Alisson wasn’t fazed by the shot as he got to it quite easily in the end a poor shot from the Spaniard. That kind of display shows how Chelsea are so effective they are pretty hard to stop on the counter attack especially when you have some one like Hazard on your team. Roma would continue to look like the better side as they would get a chance of their own not long after. Diego Perotti did a great job of getting though the defense pressing high to get into space he would strike it from deep just out side the box a very well hit ball it was inches away but flew just over the bar. Cheslea began to pick it up slightly but Roma still did seem to be in control the Italians continued to do well however a chance came to Chelsea. When a chance comes you must take full advantage because you never know when the next one will come. That’s exactly what David Luis did when he had his chance. In the 10th minute David Luiz tried to get a through ball into the box to find Hazard but Juan Jesus got a touch to it; sadly it was a poor touch as David Luiz got the rebound and hit absolute wonder strike from outside the box in the top corner to give Chelsea the early 1-0 lead. Just an unbelievable goal from the Brazilian giving Alisson no chance to save. The goal quieted down what was a very strong start from the Romans. Strootman would try to respond with a deep strike but his shot wasn’t close Roma still remained to look strong but Chelsea was oozing with confidence which was a very dangerous. Perotti continuously began to threaten the Chelsea defense whenever he touch the ball it was making dangerous strides towards goal. Perotti did excellent work to get in dangerous space again but his finish wasn’t the strongest as the keeper saved it. However the little Argentine wasn’t discouraged as he continued to pose of threat to Chelsea. Near the half hour mark Roma had an incredible chance of their own while on the counter attack Kevin Strootman tried a pass intended for Dzeko but the ball fell to a wide open Radja Nainggolan in the box. The midfielder took a great strike at goal but was saved despite the power put into the ball. At this point the Roma support started to make some notice at the bridge. Perotti got into a dangerous area once again as the Argentine cut inside to fire on goal but was once again saved. Perotti had been excellent but needed to be a little sharper on his finishing. Some rotten luck would quite down the away support as a costly error vaulted a counter attack. Bruno Peres’s poor touch from his return pass from Fazio allowed Chelsea to ignite a counter attack. Hazard would take off with ball in very dangerous position giving it to Morata right outside the box Morata’s shot was deflected by the defense and fell to Hazard who just had to put his foot though it to score his first goal of the season to put Chelsea 2-0 up. Roma having threatened Chelsea on a quite consistent basis feeling very disappointed probably didn’t deserve to be in the position they were in. Radja Nainggolan started rallying his troops to see if Roma could get one back before the half. No more then three minutes later Kolarov was like “I’m not having this” the Serb had the ball on the wing near the Chelsea area and displayed a masterful display of brilliance. In the 40th minute while being defended by two Chelsea players Kolarov ran at them threading the ball between them in the box the Serb then stroke a powerful shot in a tight angle putting it in the back of the net for Roma as they would get one back. The Former Man City man giving Roma life right before the break as Chelsea would lead 2-1 after 45 minutes.

Aleksandar Kolarov get one back right at the end of the first half

After the first half play would resume in what was allready a vastly exiting game as Roma would nab a late goal after going 2-0 down. Was the comeback on? could Roma turn this game on its head that was the real question Roma were certainly back in it. There was a sense of nerves at the bridge as Roma were looking for a comeback no changes for Roma going into the second half which I thought was a game changing decision Roma had momentum going into the second half a change would have disrupted the rhythm. Roma got a decent chance early into the second half when Gerson tried to curl it in from the side of the box but he missed. Last year Gerson got a his first start in a big game like this and didn’t perform however in this match Gerson quietly impressed showing Roma why they brought him a year ago he displayed that he is a excellent prospect and I see him getting more games as the seasons moves forward he looked confrontable and very aware coped very well with the pace of the game. Minutes later That MAN Perotti threatened again as he put in a world class cross for Dzeko but good self awareness by Courtois saved it. We see again Perotti putting Roma in great position as the Italians were really pressing. Chelsea would go to their bench as David Luiz made room for Pedro. Despite the change The Roma chances just continued to come. Kolarov sent in ball into the six yard box to find Gerson the 20-Year old got his head to it but it went a bit wide. Once again brilliant play but Kolarov and brilliant position by the youngster to give Roma a good chance. The games most momentous moment would come as Dzeko would turn the game on its head. In the 64 minute Maxime Gonalons hit the ball of the season he crossed the ball in from just past the half way line into Dzeko who caught the ball on a volley smashing an absolute screamer in to the top corner to equalize to bring Roma back from the dead. One of the goals of the season certainly one of the best goals I’ve seen this season what a strike from Dzeko. People talk about Harry Kane and Lukaku all that time I rather have Dzeko any day of the week.     VLLYU

Edin Dzeko Smashes A Volley to Equalize In a goal of the season contender

It would be Dzeko’s 9th goal of the season and 55th Roma goal pulling even with Ruggiero Rizzitelli. All of a sudden Roma were back in this game after going 2-0 down in the first half. A comeback is always difficult but to do it against Chelsea who happen to be premier league champions is even harder. I for one thought it was all but over after two down I believe in my club but it was hard to believe we could come back from that point Roma could now get something out of this game which didn’t seem possible a half hour earlier. Marcos Alonzo gave Chelsea a chance but his curler went just a little high. A few minutes later Roma would get another opportunity when Bakayoko brought down Perotti on the side of the box as Roma were gifted with a free kick in a dangerous area. Maxime Gonalons and Aleksandar Kolarov both stood over the ball but we all know who was taking it. Kolarov in the 70th minute from the side of the box sent a ball into danger the left back found Dzeko and once again Dzeko came through in the biggest moment of the game as his header beat Courtois getting free of the defense to head it home to give Roma the 3-2 scoring his second of the game. Edin Dzeko on his 100th game for Roma would move up to 16th on Roma’s All time scoring list scoring his 10 goal in 10 games this season. If Roma had Dzeko when Totti was in his prime the amount of trophies Roma could have won are endless I’m so happy he’s at my club we love him seems like the bargain of the Century. Some how so way Roma found themselves in front. Roma would then go their bench to make their first change Gerson would make room for Pellegrini I thought Gerson did very well he should be proud of the way he performed especially in a game like this. Dzeko comes through for Roma in their biggest moments for Chelsea that man is Eden Hazard. Chelsea having their backs against the wall Eden Hazard would show why he’s one of the best players in the premier league when his team needed him the most he delivered. In the 75th minute while in dangerous space Pedro crossed into Hazard from just outside the box Hazard’s header was an absolute bullet as he found the back of the net to equalize making it 3-3. Within a space of 10 minutes there were three goals an amazing display of beautiful  football from two outstanding teams. Radja Nainggolan attempted to respond but his well hit shot was just a little off. At this point with about 10 minutes to go Chelsea made two changes Willian coming off for Hazard and Former Roma boy Antonio Rudiger coming on for Zappacosta. Following the sub Roma had another glorious chance; Kolarov whipped in a brilliant ball in from the right-hand touchline and Dzeko has somehow headed wide of the target from six yards out. A great final chance for Roma Dzeko can score from that range but I think he will be very happy with how he performed. EL Shaarawy and Florenzi would get a run out late but 90 minutes of heart wrenching, thoroughly exhausting wonderful beautiful thrilling football was over with two quality sides sharing the points in London. A little under two weeks from now these teams will face off again in Rome but today both sides inch a little closer to qualifying for the knockout rounds.

Dzeko’s Inspiring Two goal Performance Takes him to 16th On Roma’s Scoring List

Chelsea and Roma’s Hyped up Champions league battle lived up to the hype in the best champions league match of the week. As well as one of the greatest European nights I have ever been apart of. A lot of Drama and excitement through out the match in a true thriller features one of the best sides in England and one of the best sides in Italy neither team was in full strength but both sides showed up in this fantastic match on European football’s biggest stage. The game its self told many stories a match it was very difficult match for the heart to handle. Roma from the beginning for the match looked very sharp coming out of the game Roma looked in total control but it came down to certain opportunities that were taken by Chelsea that got them the 2-0 lead to begin with but Roma never lost faith in the match at any point as a Roma fan I thought we were done at 2-0 I thought it was going to be almost impossible to come back from that against a team like Chelsea. Radja Nainggolan deserves a lot of credit for how he handled himself as a leader during those low moments in the game he rallied the boys back and made them believe they could rally back. Just like that they were back in it I also think a lot of credit needs to go to Di Francesco for sticking with the same unit despite conceding two goals in the first half. in the second half Roma would fire back with those 11 even leading at one point.  These teams were so close in compassion both sides played extremely well and it was not stop entertainment it was one of those games where you couldn’t step away for one second because you didn’t know what could happen next. Dzeko and Hazard like I predicted in my preview delivered on the biggest stage. Dzeko who despite playing never scoring against Chelsea in 9 attempts when he was with Man City; finding the net twice in the games most crucial moments for Roma even putting them in the lead at one stage in his 100th match for Roma scoring his 10 goal of the season that is 10 goals in 10 games for the Bosnian. For Chelsea Eden Hazard a guy you had not scored yet this season put Chelsea up 2-0 in the first half and responded to Dzeko’s go ahead goal to draw even saving Chelsea from dropping points. Dzeko and Hazard are my shared man of the man for today’s game they both delivered when they teams needed them the most. However I can not end this without mentioning the work of Aleksandar Kolarov he was world class in tonight’s game scoring the goal to get Roma back in the game as assisting Dzeko’s second goal. The Serb put in a great cycle of work in the match. At the end of the day Roma were the better team in this game but the loss of Manolas hurt them in that respect. Despite that to fight their way back from 2-0 down to earn a hard fought draw was beyond what I thought this side could do I don’t know what Di Francesco is feeding those boys but keeping doing it. Roma put in their best performance of the season thus far in the biggest match of the season Roma now look in poll position to qualify a grudge match with Chelsea in 13 days time but Roma is ready.
