In goal Serie A’s clean sheet leader Alisson Becker he has been one of the biggest starts for Roma as he continues to perform well. In Roma’s back four their would be only one defensive change. At Left back would be Alexsandar Kolarov as he continues to do well in his debut season in the Italian capital. Next to him at the left center back coming in to replace Juan Jesus would be the return of Kostas Manolas to the starting lineup as he was sidlened due to injuries. Then up front would be the big man Edin Dzeko who hasn’t scored in quite some time but has remained a vital and important player for Roma despite the lack of goals lately he has been a leader for the side. Roma put out a very strong team with good options on the bench including Emerson who has just returned his ACL injury in may a strong side for Eusebio Di Francesco and his men.

Early in the game the possession battle seems pretty even between them another defensive battle was expected but that’s not what we got. Before the match Fiorentina would without a doubt have planned for Roma’s big stars and rightfully so however they were hit by someone that they did not plan for. In just the 5th minute Roma were able to break through; Radja Nainggolan had the ball from deep and sent well timed through ball into the danger area to find El Shaarawy. Despite being in front it still looked and appeared like a very close match. Fiorentina would consolidate that with a rapid response as they would do the unthinkable score against Roma. In the 9th minute Gil Dias while in attacking position near the box sent a brilliant pass with rapid speed on the ball to Jordan Veretout. The midfielder whipped it past the leagues best keeper to equalize. As Fiorentina became the first team to score against Roma away from home. A very impressive goal when you are putting them past Alisson you know its a good goal because not many get past him. It continued to look like a very evenly match game with Roma looking just slightly better as they should. Both teams did a tremendous job getting into dangerous area’s were threatening whenever they got chances to score. About 20 minutes into the game Roma got themselves in position with a marvelous chance. Stephen El Shaarawy sent Dzeko in with a fantastic well placed through ball that was going down the flanks right as the ball was about to go out Dzeko controlled it then attempted to fire it on goal coming from the side of the box in a very tight angle. His shot was saved by the keeper but was a good effort by the Bosnian. Roma would get another chance with Radja Nainggolan who tried striking it from deep off a corner but his shot was too high. Shortly after Fiorentina would try to bring something forward when Gil Dias had a shot from deep saved by Alisson. The game neared the half hour mark as Roma got a few chances going forward. As we saw Aleksandar Kolarov’s shot miss wide off a free kick followed by Lorenzo Pellagrini’s ambitious strike from deep saved by the keeper. Roma were clearly coming and as we approached the half hour mark Roma delivered. In the 30th minute Gerson’s added to his magnificent performance. On a pacey counter attack Gonalons gave a quick pass to Gerson and the Brazilian took a few dribbles with some excellent footwork before the youngster beat the keeper near post to put it in the back of the net leaving the keeper in disbelief as Roma took the 2-1 lead. It was turning into a career night for the youngster it would be Gerson’s 2nd goal of the game second of the season. Gerson scores his second in a goal frenzy first half in Florence as his career night continued
A completely different game of football then what most of have expected especially given Roma’s form away from home. A very entertaining game of football it was turning into a shootout going back and forth with the lead no team had the clear advantage Fiorentina had some fight in them. The second half would kick off after the break as these two teams battled in another 45 minutes of great football. Early in the second half it looked like the game began to sway in Roma’s favor slightly. Fazio sent up Dzeko for an early chance when the Argentine connected with Dzeko on a cross Dzeko got his head to it but sadly it was a little high. Just a few minutes later Dzeko would get another chance as Kolarov sent in a cross from a corner the Bosnian would get his head to it again but was deflected and went out for another corner. This time Roma would deliver in the 50th minute coming off another corner Kolarov connected with Manolas as the Greek defender hit the ball with his shoulder as he found the back of the net to put Roma 3-2 up. It would be Kostas Manolas second goal of the season equaling his season high in goals with Roma. Roma seems a little more in control during the second half but Fiorentina continued to try and fight back. They would get a few more chances but their finishing wasn’t as sharp as they would of liked. Federico Chiesa tried a shot coming off a cross but misfired only for Fiorentina to get another chance from the Viola as we saw Gil Dias take a well taken shot just barley glide over the top corner. Roma wouldn’t taken off the pedal either as they had a few chances of their own. Edin Dzeko would find Lorenzo Pellegrini who hit a powerful shot but was dealt with by the keeper. Roma would then go to their bench as Diego Perotti would come in for El Shaarawy. A good performance for the Italian getting an assist on the first goal. Roma and Fiorentina continued to press forward. Nainggolan set up Dzeko for another chance but it was saved. Marco Benassi tried to respond with a chance of his own but misfired. Roma made another change Kevin Strootman replaces Lorenzo Pellegrini. As the game continued and continued to get late on Roma were getting closer and closer to getting the three points. Roma made their final change Gerson came off after a career night making Room for Grégoire Defrel. The game looked all but over then late in the game Roma put the icing on the cake in the 88th minute Radja Nainggolan sent a well hit cross to an unmarked Diego Perotti in the box and Perotti with plenty of space putting it past the keeper into the back of the net to make it 4-2. It would be Perotti’s 3rd goal of the season. That would all put wrap up the game as Roma fourth straight the derby awaits.
Kostas Manolas celebrates his go-ahead goal in the second half to secure the thee points
A match of different emotions and feelings throughout as we are treated to an absolute thriller in Florence a match of beautiful football. A game that was not clear on what the result would be. We saw four different lead changes as the Florence side refused to go down with out a fight. After a historic win against Chelsea in the champions league Roma came into in ready to handle the business. Things would start rather well for Roma with Gerson giving Roma the early lead scoring his first Serie A brace then Fiorentina equalized only for Gerson to hit back with another as his memorable night only got better in rainy Florence. Only for Fiorentina to hit back again. Roma’s two second half goals from Perotti and Manolas helped them hold off Fiorentina. However credit must given to Fiorentina as they stayed in the game as much as they possibly could being the first team in Serie A this season to score on Roma away from home. An Excellent performance but they just came up against a stronger team on the day. Roma came through in the biggest moments of the game; It was nice to see Manolas get a goal on his return to starting 11. Tonight the man of the match goes to one man and only man only Roma’s 20 Year old Brazilian winger Gerson who since joining Roma has only just started getting solid minutes. Under EDF he has gained confidence and has been able to perform unlike Spalletti who never gave him a chance. This is why Gerson should have been given a chance a lot earlier. A memorable night for the youngster scoring two goals for Roma his first two for the club. He is starting to show the promise that he had when he arrived last summer. An all around great performance showing Roma’s toughness and grit to get the important three points. This would make it the 12th road win in a row a Serie A record. I could mention so many Roma players Everyone tonight did their part as Roma head into the international break in great form as the derby awaits.
