The Roman Derby Roma vs Lazio Preview #131

Option 1

Following a International Break that sent shock waves through the country. As we saw Italy miss out on the World Cup for the first time since 1958.  The Italians lost 1-0 to Sweden over a two legged Playoff that saw  Legendary Buffon being denied at a shot at one more world cup as well as Roma captain Danielle De Rossi calling quits on a tremendous international career. With that being said Serie A returns this weekend and it is not just any ordinary weekend it is Derby Weekend. As treated to one of the most violent and hatred fueled derbies in world football as we prepare for the Derby Della Capitale also known as the Roman derby as Lazio and Roma will face off. For those of you that don’t understand this isn’t just a game this fixture is everything the hatred between these teams is unlike any rivalry in sports. The meaning of the derby means more in Rome than perhaps any other city in the world which is what makes this derby so special. Historically Lazio and Roma were winning very few Scudetto’s which makes this the most important game of the season winning the derby is the reason to be proud. There is no more important game supremacy in the city matters above all else. The Derby Della Capitale’s is an athletic spectacle that has been overshadowed by thousands of injuries, hundreds of riots and even several deaths. The Teams have been going at it since 1927 they have played 184 times since then with Roma leading this historic rivalry. Roma’s 69 wins lead to Lazio’s 52 wins as well as 52 draws being taken place. Since the beginning of Italian football Roma has finished ahead of Lazio 57 Times and unlike Roma’s nosey neighbors Roma have never been relegated trophy wise they are rather close but make no mistake this is our city Roma fans typically come from the heart of the city while Lazio fans come from outside which adds to the displeasure of each other. Last season the two clubs met each other four times with each team winning twice. However Lazio did knockout Roma in the Coppa Itaila Semi Final but Juve went on to win it. This season both teams are off to flying starts in the league as 4th place Lazio and 5th Place Roma meet up at the Stadio Olimpico in what should be an excellent contest there is only one point separating them. Both teams are on in great form but on Derby day the records on thrown out. Tactically Roma have the slight advantage and are the better team in several areas but they will still have a job to do against this Lazio attack and his name Ciro Immobile. Roma’s primary  job in this game is to neutralize the attack of Immobile who is on fire right now he has tops the score charts in 13 goals in the league. He will provide a great presence if Roma can cause him to have an off game they have the ability to control the game. Lazio without Immobile aren’t a great side they with Keita Balde not with Lazio any more  despite also having Savic if you stop immobile you will Roma’s keeper Alisson leads the league with the most clean sheets he doesn’t concede many. Roma will also have tools to counter what Immobile and Savic can bring forward. Roma have a very strong midfield with Kevin Strootman, Danielle De Rossi and Lorenzo Pellegrini likely starters for the game. Radja Nainggolan will unlikely play due to injury but Roma have depth that can create problems for Lazio. Lets not forgot what Roma can bring up front either the Roman speedsters (El Shaarawy, Perotti) remains in fantastic form not to mention the goal scoring proses of Edin Dzeko despite not scoring in several games he has scored in this derby before and always seems to play well in the big games. this one will be very hard to call but Roma is the better team if they slow down Immobile they will come out of this with the bragging rights and jump them in the table. I expect a hatred fueled violence heavy great match of football in other words a derby.
