Stadio Luigi Ferraris, Genoa

Following a loss in the champions league to Atletico Madrid Roma looked to get back on track in the League. Roma prepared for the 13th match day of this years campaign to keep their Serie A form alive Going into the match Roma have won 5 games on the bounce. IN addition to that Roma have won a Serie A record 13 straight games away from home they would face off against Relegation threated Genoa. Roma faced Genoa twice last season winning on both occasions including Roma’s come from behind victory on match day 38 last season on Totti’s last season to secure second during last years campaign. Roma have won six straight games against Genoa they are the favorites here being 21 points apart in the table but as we saw last week with Juventus any team can beat anyone in any given week. In the first half Roma didn’t find things as easy as you would think Roma were still the better team but they were unable to break the deadlock despite a few chances. In would be 0-0 after the first half. In the second half the game opened up a little bit with a few more chances coming from both ends. Roma had a chance early in the second half and Roma  it El Shaarawy took a cross from Florenzi and put it into the bottom corner to give Roma the 1-0 lead. Roma hung on to it for awhile but a costly mistake from the Roma captain Danielle De Rossi who foolishly pushed over Lapadula in the box giving Genoa a penalty and seeing a RED CARD. Lapadula converted the penalty to equalize 1-1. Roma fought back but lucky continued to not go there way as Roma hit the bar late and had a goal disallowed the away win streak ends as Roma drop points to bottom table Genoa a game Roma deserved to win but hugely disappointing not collect all three points.

E!@              Eusebio Di Francesco would make four changes to his Roma side from last weeks champions league game against Atletico Madrid. Roma would go with their customary 4-3-3 formation for today’s game. In goal between the stick would be The Big Brazilian Alisson Becker Serie A’s clean sheet leader and arguably the best keeper in the league this season. The leagues’ best defense would go with a very similar unit from Roma’s last game midweek but two changes were made in the back. At left back would be Alexzandar Kolarov the Serb continues to turn heads this season playing well above what his age subjects. Beside him as the left center back would be the return of Juan Jesus to the starting lineup he’s done well when he has played this season he would be replacing Manolas in that spot. As the teams other center back deploying the right would be Roman’s big man 6’5 Federico Fazio who continues to thrive in the Italian capital. Then to make up the defense coming in for Bruno Peres who was dropped after a horror show performance on Wednesday would be Alexandro Florenzi he is always a big key to success of the attack and defense. In the central midfield their would be two changes to the trio. Controlling the central midfield spot would be Roma Captain Danielle De Rossi having replaced Maxime Gonalons. On the left coming in for Lorenzo Pellegrini would be Kevin Strootman who just hit 100 appearances for the club. Then on the right side one of Europe best midfielders the world class Radja Nainggolan. Another very strong midfield for Roma. Upfront their would be just one change on the wings would be the Roman Speedsters Diego Perotti on the left and Stephen El Shaarawy on the right. The pair of them continue to thrive this season as they have been unsung hero’s for Roma. The finally up from as the main striker The Big Bosnian Edin Dzeko who is still missing his boots although he continues to play well. We hope Dzeko can start scoring again soon. On the bench Roma’s Record Signing Patrick Schick is finally fit an available the Croatian could see action today.

Roma would arrive in Genoa as they were ready to take on bottom feeders Genoa in another battle. Preparations and Predictions were done with as we were ready kick things off in Genoa the match got underway. It was clear that there decisive pressure were prepared for what Roma brang forward. The Genoa defense blocks three Roma chances early from Dzeko and El Shaarawy. Early doors Roma took control of possession but none the less Genoa tried to go after it.Near the 20 minute mark both teams shared chances to try to pull ahead. Genoa’s Luca Rigoni stroke a ball coming from a cross but Alisson made a well timed saved to deny an early goal. Two minutes later Radja Nainggolan tried to strike from deep his powerfully hit ball was saved by the keeper. It was a possession based first half with not a ton of chances success pulled off with a lot of block shots as both defense’s were doing a great job of getting in the way of the shots fired on goal. Just past the half hour mark Stephan El Shaarawy gave Roma a chance as the 25-Year old whipped in a shot from outside the box after Receiving an excellent pass from Dzeko. However the shot was saved in the bottom corner as it remained even. Several minutes later Roma got another chance when Radja Nainggolan Sent in a cross connected with Dzeko; Dzeko got his head to it but just missed. Dzeko has not scored for over a mouth but he has been getting into position regularly luck just hasn’t been on his side lately. Genoa would get one more chance prior to the end of the half when Luca Rugoni tried to head the ball in the back of the net but misfired. that would signal the end of the half as Roma and Genoa battle out a scoreless draw after 45 minutes.

REDRE

Radja Nainggolan strikes from Deep in the first half of a scoreless first half.

It wasn’t a great first half from Roma the Romans are capable of doing much better then they are to this point. Eusebio Di Francesco were looking for a much more aggressive half of football with the weapons they have they should be going after it in a more effective matter. On the Genoa side of things they had done an excellent job of limiting the Roma chances. Whether their intention was to park the bus to grab a point or not you would have to ask them but either way their strategy was working perfectly. However Genoa had done a good job attacking as well in this match and they came out with more of the same. Just minutes into the second half the Genoa attack tried to test Alisson Bertolacci gave a headed pass to Pandev and he stroke it from the center of the box but Alisson was untested as he made the save without too much difficultly.Shortly after Eusebio Di Francesco would go to the bench for the first time brining in Grégoire Defrel for Diego Perotti. Defrel has been a bit underwhelming this season but I believe he can be something special for Roma he just needs to get his confidence up. Shortly after the change Genoa would get another chance but it wouldn’t threaten Alisson at all as Veloso shot was saved quite easily. Less then a minute after the Genoa scoring chance Roma would make their mark. In the 59th Minute while dribbling up the right wing Alexandro Florenzi sent a pin point cross into the box; he found El Shaarawy who caught the ball on his first touch placing it in the bottom right corner to put Roma up 1-0. Excellent movement without the ball from El Shaarawy being able to get into position to score not to mention the touch was subline and a near perfect delivery from Florenzi. It would be Stephen El Shaarawy’s 6th goal of the season the teams’ 2nd top scorer and as done very well filling in the goals during Dzeko’s dry spell.

EL CHAPE

Stephen El Shaarawy gives Roma the lead in the second half

Following the goal Roma would get another chance coming off the corner Kolarov sent in a ball into the box where Radja Nainggolan put his laces through the ball but his shot went well over. a few minutes later controversy hit as Roma captain lost his head in the wrong moment. In the 70th minute Danielle De Rossi shoved Lapadula down in the box the referee would go to V.A.R to look at the call not only was penalty given but he saw RED as he was sent off for his actions. Lapadula stepped up to put it past Alisson to equalize making it 1-1 with not much time left. This put Roma 12 straight away wins record under threat with not much time left and down to 10 men it would be difficult to come back from none the less Roma carried on. Dzeko attempted to break the deadlock with his left footed strike from outside the box missing the right. Roma would go to their bench as they brought in Maxime Gonalons in for Stephen El Shaarawy to make up for the absence of De Rossi. With no less then five minutes to go Kevin Strootman put in a great effort however luck wasn’t on Roma’s side as the Dutchmen’s strike from the six yard box hit the bar to deny Roma of a late winner. Then with only three minutes to go Roma would make their last sub as we would see the long awaited return of Patrik Schick as he would replace Radja Nainggolan. Genoa would have two late chances of their own but a pair of Lapadula strikes missed. In the 94 minute Schick would score his first goal for Roma in what we would of thought was the winner however it was called back as Schick committed a foul on the play it after seeing in it was clear it was the right decision  . The final whistle was blown as Roma streak ends but its early days in the season we live and we learn rotten luck for Roma as two dropped by Eusebio Di Francesco’s side.

SCHHH

Patrick Schick sees Action after returning from his injury

Roma’s run of 12 straight wins away from home end here today is a game of one costly mistake ruins what would have been their 13th straight win as Roma drop points at 18th Genoa. A disappointing afternoon to say the least a result that could have been easily avoided. Danielle De Rossi’s error has cost Roma today is his foolish decision to throw down Lapula in box causing the 34-Year old Captain to see a RED CARD after V.A.R was consulted. Giving away the penalty that allowed Genoa to get even and earning a eventual draw. It was an afternoon of misfortune as we saw Roma hit the bar twice in the second half as well as having a winning goal disallowed. During the game itself Roma was the better team throughout it but wasn’t a walk through as Genoa put together several chances to break through. Roma wasn’t at their best in their first half but did very well over the last 45 minutes nearly scoring on several occasions. Today’s Man of the match award goes to Stephan El Shaarawy he put Roma ahead win an excellent brace due to his ability to get his body into position to score. His movement without the ball is the best in world football it wasn’t a bad cross from Florenzi. He did all the right things in todays game despite the draw the Italian was excellent. Patrik Schick made his second Roma appearance today after recovering from his injury. Roma’s record signing looked good on the ball give us somewhat of an idea of what he can be with Roma. Roma weren’t at their best and we know they can do better their were bright spots Alisson had another excellent performance as well a few others Roma must learn from this and get better De Rossi took responsibility after the game he will miss the next game I expect a fiery Roma next weekend they will learn from this experience. Roma however wont lose much ground in the league table with Fiorentina’s late Penalty against Cross town Rivals Lazio saw Lazio Drop points. Roma will stay in front of their rivals.Roma will remain in fourth Roma will take on SPAL next week in a game that should be very winnable to get back on track.
