Coppa Itaila Round Of 16 Preview Roma vs Torino #150

Italy’s Domestic cup returns this week for Roma as the Giallorossi continue search for their first trophy since 2008. Roma were on the brink of the final during last year’s cup as the Romans went on a cup run making it to the Semi Finals. They lost to noisy neighbors Lazio over the two legs before Lazio lost to eventual champions Juventus. In this round of 16 match up they will host Torino at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome on Wednesday night. Roma faced off against Torino about a mouth ago in Turin. In that match Torino tried to park the bus to try to squeeze out a point from a very good Roma side their plan ended up backing firing as the romans nicked a 1-0 win after a second half FREE KICK from Aleksandar Kolarov. This is knockout stage football extra time and penalties can happen so I’d be surprised if Torino will play defensive they will certainly try to set up defensive traps for Roma to try and contain the Roma attack but I think they will go after it. With Andrea Bellotti in the side this time around I think Turin will try to bomb it out to him as much as possible but will need to play a tight defense not to be exposed because if they leave space open this Roma side will punish them for it. From the Roma point of view this will some what be the dress rehearsal for the match against Juventus on Saturday. Roma are likely switch things up slightly in this game as some of Roma’s starters will be rested Roma still are a much better team then Torino and will put out enough quality on the pitch to get through to the quarterfinals. What I think we might see is Roma putting up a very youthful side keeping some of their stars on the bench might be a good idea as they can use those big time players as subs. However make no mistake here Eusebio Di Francesco’s side are here to win it but at the same time he wont want to burn out his best players in a cup game. I could see Gerson, Cengiz Under and Patrik Schick all given the green light to start. Andréa Bellotti will be a handful for the Roma defense despite not having done very well against Roma in the past. I don’t think Roma should take any chances with their defense. Whether or not Roma play a full strength squad has yet to be seen but I see this game as a chance for Roma to improve their finishing in front of goal as they have lacked clinical finishing. In the end despite having Belotti heathy I think Roma will be able to neutralize him even if Roma just slow him down it could cause big problems Torino will just have to much to deal with.
