Roma vs Atalanta Preview #157

Happy New Year and Welcome to 2018 Roma are Coming off a poor run of form over the last few weeks as they Roma prepare for the first match of 2018. Roma look to get back into the form they showed early in the season as the Giallorossi look to recover from the their controversial 1-1 draw against Sassuolo last weekend. The match hit some controversy in which VAR took away two goals from Roma including Florenzi’s winner it was a poor performance but none the less Roma were denied the three points. Roma are set to host Atalanta for the second time this season Roma really need to get back on track here as they want to head into the winter break on a win. These two clubs faced off in the opening weekend of the season Roma traveled to Stadio Atleti Azzurri d’Italia and won 1-0 thanks to Alex Kolarov in a place that’s very difficult to win. At it stands Roma currently in 4th with 39 points Coming into this game while Atalanta sit in 9th. While few would argue with the notion that Roma are the better team quite easily its just in theory its about who performs on the day. Roma currently are in dreadful run of form with just two wins in their last five games for a team the size of Roma that’s very poor. The current issues are abundantly clear is isn’t a lack of chances in fact they average more chances per game then any team in the league this season. The Problem is finishing off their chances Roma have the best defense in the league a very strong unit and the best keeper in the league but even they can be broken down from time to time. Roma need to be scoring multiple goals a game to become a real threat in the second half of the season. I know I have been saying this for weeks but this is another must win it could be argued that Roma are allready out of the race. With a game in hand they still might be able to claw themselves back into the race but they will need some help. This is why this game is very important that Roma get their season back on the right track. In order for that to happen Roma need to get Edin Dzeko scoring again he started the season so hot and just has cooled off with only one game in the last 14 games in the league. If Roma can get him scoring again Roma will start to pick up those crucial points. Roma wont have it easy though Atlanta is a very good team coming off a win against Napoli in the cup they have an excellent attack with the likes of  Alejandro Gómez, Bryan Cristante and the always dangerous  Josip Iličić They are a very strong side and are capable of doing damage. Roma are in bad form and despite the quality players Atalanta have it doesn’t compare to what Roma can bring forward. Radja Nainggolan continues to be one of the best players in the world with the strong midfield Roma have with Pellgerni,Stootman,Nainggolan, De Rossi as well Roma has a clear advantage there. Not to mention Kolarov and Florenzi’s ability to push forward to give service. Alisson and the defense will be ready for this attack they will be up for the challenge. Roma should be able to win this game its important that they do. Will they win? Frankly based on what I’ve seen the last few weeks I have no idea.
