Roma vs Sampdoria Preview #166

After a 1-1 draw against Inter at the San Siro Roma are back at it once again as they are set to make up their much awaited game in hand as Roma are set to take on Sampdoria. Part one of Two as they face off again next week in Rome. In last seasons three meetings Roma won two of them once in the league and once in the cup however Sampdoria made it tough on the Romans in two of the three meetings last year. This season Sampdoria has been Serie A’s dark horse as I predicted in my season preview when they are on they can be very tough to beat home or away. Roma and Sampdoria are only one place apart in the table despite Roma having a big point advantage this game is a very evenly match between two sides that have the desire for European football. Roma travel to Genoa Wednesday night coming off several poor results as they look to restart their season over the next two weeks looking for back to back wins to get them fighting for those luxurious champions league spots. With Emerson Leaving and Dzeko on his way this match becomes very important more dropped points just can not happen here. Dzeko’s move to Chelsea could be finalized by the game so I find it unlikely he will make the trip. That means that Patrik Schick will likely get the start upfront Roma’s record signing will finally get his chance to lead the line something he is surly capable of to add to the story he played for Sampdoria so it could even be an incentive to try and get a goal against his former team. Despite a decent draw against Inter Milan Roma still remain in poor form and their continued struggles on capitalizing in front of goal remains unchanged. At some point Roma will have to turn this around and start picking up results. I think Roma will grind it out and finally get a win with Dzeko rumors Roma will over come what is in front of them to earn an important win. I haven’t been confident about the last few games but I just have the feeling Roma will go out and prove they are still a team to be feared. Sampdoria is a quality team with capable scorers with the likes of  Fabio Quagliarella who has 15 goals this season as well as many other options this is a very good team. Despite all that Roma’s defense has the quality to neutralize what Sampdoria attempt to bring forward. The Roman defense is no joke the best defensive unit in Italian football in my opinion not to mention Roma have the best keeper in the league. Alisson has been nothing short of world class this season his performance against Inter was breathtaking. His assist to El Shaarawy’s goal was unbelievable and in goal he was making save after save. I fancy Roma to get a shutout with Schick up front it will put all the distractions at ease with the right choice of lineup we finally can get a proper Roma performance I’m calling it now the season will restart on Wednesday night for Eusebio Di Francesco and Roma.
