Florenzi’s Penalty Miss proves to be costly as Sampdoria Haunts Roma Late #169

Score: Roma 0 Sampdoria 1 FT

Roma - Sampdoria

Stadio Olimpico, Rome

Following Roma’s 1-1 draw with Sampdoria on Wednesday Roma travel home for their 22nd match of this year’s Serie A campaign. Once again they are set to face off with Sampdoria for the second time this week in part 2 of the double header. Now that last week’s match is taking care of Roma no longer have any games in hand. Roma currently stand in 5th in the table but with Inter Milan’s recent draw with SPAL they can go level on points with the Milan Giants. Last week in Genoa Roma dominated Sampdoria throughout it and were very unfortunate not to win especially given the controversial penalty that was given causing Roma to need a stoppage time equalizer to rescue a point. I believe at home Roma are going to be big favorites the Romans are still searching for their first win in the last five games in the league with 3 draws and two losses over that stretch. Edin Dzeko Still Remains a Roma player as the deal to Chelsea is collapsing by the minute is now my belief that this will not happen especially given the fact that his wife has came out and said that she would like him to stay in Rome. It is massively important that Roma win this match. it didn’t go quite as planned in the first half Roma didn’t really offer much as Sampdoria controlled the game however in the first half Roma were given a great opportunity. as Sampdoria was called for a handball in the Box giving Roma a penalty. Florenzi’s penalty was denied as the two teams went into the break even. In the second half it was one-way traffic for Roma as they start to look a lot better and a lot stronger they challenge the keeper several times but nothing was falling. It had looked like it would be a draw but Sampdoria had an opportunity late in the game and unlike Roma they took it as Zapata scored the winner. That’s now six games without a win for Roma this now puts Di Francesco in the hot seat as another opportunity blown for Roma.

LETSFUCK
Roma would make two changes from there mid-week match Wednesday
Defending the goal would as usual beat the big Brazilian Alisson Becker Who currently sits atop of the Serie A Clean sheet charts looking to get his 10th of the Season here today. In Eusebio Di Francesco’s 4-3-3 formation they would be the surprisingly one change to the back four that Roma continues to use. At left-back would be the Serbian International Alex Kolarov. Beside him would be the center-back partnership of Kostas Manolas and Juan Jesus. Then finally to cap off the defense would be the very versatile Alexandro Florenzi. A very strong defense for Roma one of the best in Italian football this season. In the central Midfield we would see the same Trio as we saw last week. In the center mid position would be Kevin Strootman a player who thankfully will be staying put after being linked with Liverpool. Beside him on the left side would be Radja Nainggolan the Belgium International recently turned down 13 million a year from the Chinese Super League to remain in the Italian capital. Then finally on the right side would be Roma’s Rising Star Lorenzo Pellegrini a very strong Midfield for Roma. Upfront in the roma attack there would only be one change. on the left wing replacing Defrel would be Stephan El Shaarawy making his return to the starting 11. then on the opposite side on the right wing would be Cengiz Under getting another start I am glad he continues to be used a very young talented player. Then finally up front would be Edin Dzeko who now appears could be staying rather than leaving for Stamford Bridge he is starting to get his form back having scored two goals in the last three games I see him as a big playmaker in this game. And as always a strong bench with the likes of Gerson,Perotti & Antonucci.

UNDER2

After speculations and predictions about this match we were ready to get underway in Rome. in what would be part 2 of this match after playing Just a few days ago in midweek. an opportunity for both teams to strengthen their European Chase. the match would kick off in Rome on this Sunday night a massive of 3 points at stake. Early in the game it wasn’t what you would expect as in a lot of Roma games they tend to have control throughout it despite the result. But today on this occasion Sampdoria at least in the first half were much stronger and faster smarter and created a lot of opportunities. In the opening minutes of the game Sampdoria looked very strong and less than 10 minutes into it they started putting together some chances. They had three chances within moments of each other. Gaston Ramirez gave Sampdoria their first chance of the game as he attempted a strike from Deep but Alisson made a good save denying a potential opening goal. Less than a minute later got to Luca Campari took a strike from the side of the box a close attempt but missed. Then just a few minutes later Zapata tried a shot from the center of the box coming from a Gaston Ramirez cross a nice attempt but another mess. It was clear early that Roma could be in trouble despite them controlling possession they were unable to create many chances it went from that to an absolute onslaught of chances. Alisson and his defense had a lot of work to do. Against another defense they could have been up by multiple goals. In a span of about 15 minutes Sampdoria accumulated 8 scoring chances in that time they were going in for the kill. Edgar Barreto shot was saved by Allison followed by a pair of good chances from Nikolai Murru Ana Zapata but they were not hitting the target. Alisson would then make a great save on a close chance to keep things even. Alisson was playing the game of his life as he saved 2 chance of Zabata and saved a good attempt from Lucas Terraria. as far as I was concerned they were not in the game Roma looks so far behind on everything that it looks like they weren’t even going to have a chance however after nearly a half-hour Roma finally put something together on goal. Alex Kolarov coming from the wing connected with Lorenzo Pellegrini on the cross the Italian International got his head to it but it went just a bit wide. A close chance for Roma. however they’re opening chance didn’t flip the game it was still very much dominated by Sampdoria. However after a heroic save from Capari’s strike from outside the box by Alisson. Roma we’re about to get a scoring opportunity to take the lead. They were Given a penalty in the late stages of the first half. Bartosz Bereszynski was called for a handball in the Box as the Polish International gave Roma a penalty. Alexandro Florenzi came up to take it however it was not Roma’s day as He failed to capitalize on the opportunity he was given as his shot was saved. shortly after Roma actually had a few good chances first Stephan El Shaarawy took a beautifully shot from the side of the box but Cengiz Under attempted a shot from a Nainggolan on a Cross that missed wide. Then right before the end of the half Capari took a shot on goal but was saved by Allison again. at the end of the first half it still was a goalless draw but what a missed opportunity from Roma.

Roma - Sampdoria

Roma captain Alexandro Florenzi fails to take advantage of first half penalty

A horrid first half from Roma as we see Sampdoria completely dominate. Roma barely got a sniff over the first 45 minutes. however in the second half things were about to change. It became a flip in script as it was a first half reversal as Roma came out of the second half firing. Minutes into the second half Roma put together some pretty good chances putting some belief back into it. Alexandro Florenzi set up Lorenzo Pellegrini in the opening minutes of the second half for a chance a well-hit ball from the side of the box but unfortunately the keeper would save it. less than a minute later Cengiz under gave Roma a terrific chance as Alexandra Florenzi set up the Young Turk Roma’s youngster was denied by the goalkeeper. Cengiz did very well on the scoring chance He’s only gotten better and better today’s game was one of his best. Just a few minutes later Roma were on the attack again. Coming off a corner taken by Lorenzo Pellegrini Alex Kolarov tried to strike the ball but it would be saved in the bottom corner. Minutes later Roma would have yet another chance to score as Stephan El Shaarawy set up Pellegrini for a shot in the middle of the Box Pellegrini would strike it but once again a shot would be saved. It was a complete opposite of the Roma team we saw in the first half on this occasion it was Roma who looked to be more dominant as Sampdoria lost their fizzle quite a bit. Roma continued to look sharp in that second half with about a half hour to go Edin Dzeko got involved as Lorenzo Pellegrini set him up on one of his only chances of the game the Bosnian Striker would shoot from inside the Box but once again Roma would be denied by The Keeper. Roma just continued and continue to push forward doing exactly what they should have done earlier in the match but they were finally having the freedom to play their own game as they were the much Superior side the Roman attack only continued its chances on goal. Lorenzo Pellegrini was set up for another chance by Alexandra Florenzi. However Pellegrini shot missed the target. Roma were just getting warmed up as Alex Kolarov attempted a strike from Deep just missing to the left. Less than a minute later Juan Jesus followed suit by attempting a shot from inside the Box but another miss from Roma. Clearly finishing off chances in front of goal continued to be an issue for this Roma team. With about 20 minutes to go Roma would make their first substitution of the game as they brought in to Defrel for Pellegrini. Definitely not the substitution I would have made my thoughts on Defrel are quite clear. After the change Roma got back in with yet another chance as Alex Kolarov received a ball from Stephan El Shaarawy from outside the box a very well hit ball from the 32 year olds it was very close but still missed. Roma would then make their second change of the evening as Diego Perotti would come in for cengiz under I thought it was another brilliant display from Roma’s Turkish youngster. A few minutes later Roma would make their final change as Stephan El Shaarawy came out for 18 year old wonder kid Mirko Antonucci. I was thrilled to see him come on his debut on Wednesday was nothing short of special as he delivered and assist that helped them rescue a point. Diego Perotti made his impact or at least attempted to as Alexandra Florenzi connected with him on a header but unfortunately the argentines header was saved by the goalkeeper. Everything was going well for Roma it looked they were on the verge of breaking through and getting their first win since December. So of course because of all this positivity in the second half something had to go wrong. After not having one shot in the second half to that point Sampdoria broke the deadlock with 10 minutes remaining as Nikolai Muru sent across into Zapata who buried his shot into the bottom corner to give Sampdoria the 1-0 lead with not a lot of time remaining. Roma did everything they could over the final 10 minutes of the game but nothing would stick and in stopage it’s time Radja Nainggolan attempted a deep shot with time ticking down but sadly it would be Roma’s final chance of the game. As Roma’s costly penalty Miss just adds to the suffering.

Roma - Sampdoria

Cengiz Under’s brilliant second half showing just wasn’t enough for Roma

Another opportunity missed by Roma another game which they needed to win go the other way. Stadio Olimpico used to be a fortress top teams feared it  is no longer the case anymore We seen this team come here and get completely outclassed on multiple occasions. An opportunity of a lifetime missed as Alexandra Florenzi’s penalty in the first half didn’t come through in a match they needed it to. Roma sees a soul-crushing 80th minute goal from the Zapata to add to Roma’s turmoil as their poor form only continues as the frustration is at an all-time high. That is now six games in a row without a win the opportunity Roma had in this game was tremendous Inter Milan drew with Spa Lazio lost to AC Milan it was a chance for Roma to make up some ground in the battle for top four. As I’m writing this I am starting to consider how difficult getting into the champions league is going to be if they continue on this road. We are in a rebuilding mode at the moment but we still need to do better than we have been. This match was a tale of two halves as Sampdoria completely dominated the first half. While Roma dominated the second domination was split through two 45 minute periods. Roma looked very strong in the second half but then again it just was not enough as the penalty Miss comes back to haunt them. today’s man of the match goes to Alisson who did everything he could to keep Roma in the game he was faced with a lot of attacks and he could only do so much. Roma blew a momentous opportunity over these two games. Now there are only four points separating both teams. Roma have a very slim chance at top four Inter Milan is playing equally bad at the moment so stealing their spot is there only hope for Champions League. Roma play Shakhtar Donetsk in the round of 16 of the Champions League in a few weeks time I’ll tell you something right now they are not favorites Roma are The Underdogs and they might not get through. The frustration only will fuel to the fire but this is just unacceptable from a team of Roma’s size.
