Score: A.S Roma 4 S.S Napoli 2FT

Following Roma’s 2-0 lost to Milan last weekend Roma start preparations for their 27th match of this year’s campaign. Roma travel to the San Paulo Stadium this week for one of the biggest matches of the season. As they visit the most informed team in the league. League leaders Napoli who haven’t lost and 14 games and have won 12 in a row. As we revisit this historic fixture the Derby Del Sol commonly known as the Derby of the Sun. Napoli are top of the table and are just flying at the moment while Roma are trying to Rediscover good form after back-to-back losses to Shakhtar and Milan. Napoli have a chance to pick up their second win against the Romans this season after beating Roma at the Stadio Olimpico earlier this season. Napoli are definitely the favorites in this game with nonstop quality throughout their side but Roma do have a glimmer of hope as they are unbeaten in 18 out of their last 19 away matches including a big win at the San Paulo last season. This would be a massive match in this year’s campaign with the Champions League race between Lazio inter and roma heating up and the title Chase between Napoli and Juventus just as competitive. As expected Napoli dominated the early part of this game. The supporters of the San Paulo would be treated to a masterclass of goals early in this game. Very early in this game the man I always worry about Lorenzo insigne scored an opening goal for Napoli to take the 1-0 lead. I thought Roma dead in the water already but Roma Strike Back less than a minute later with some Turkish Magic from Cengiz Under to equalize to make it 1-1. Roma hits right back but as many would expect the domination of Napoli was relentless but Roma were holding firm. Just as we approached the half-hour mark Roma did something they have struggled with all season. Roma had an exceptional finish in front of goal from the big Bosnian Edin Dzeko to give Roma the 2-1 lead. Despite Napoli dominating Roma went into the second half with the lead. In the second half we saw a Roma team take advantage of the chances they were given. Something they have not done well this season but today they showed up. Napoli dominated the play but Roma got a fair few chances in the second half and buried almost all of them. Edin Dzeko struck again late to make it 3-1. Before Diego Perotti scored for their 4th in an absolute drubbing of the best team in the league. Napoli would get one back late but it was too little too late for Napoli. As Roma jump back to Third allowing the floodgates to open for Juventus title challenge. Di Francesco and roma Come Away with a massive Victory as they stun Napoli at the San Paulo.

Week 41

Eusebio Di Francesco and Roma came out very similar as they did against Milan. There were of certain a media Outlets being in favor of Roma going back to the 4-2-3-1 formation. However Roma stuck with the 4-3-3 formation that they played last week against Milan I’m going to say this right off the bat I disagree with this decision I think Roma are better suited in that formation. In goal as always would be Brazil’s number one Alison Becker Who currently stands in second in clean sheets. There was a slight adjustment to Roma’s defense last week this week that was not the case as Roma went back to the regular back 4. At the left back would be Alex Kolarov who continues to impress this season. Beside him would be the center-back partnership of Kostas Manolas and Federico Fazio. Then filling out the defense at right back would be Alexandro Florezni as he returns to the starting XI after being replaced last week by Bruno Peres. It would be a pretty similar Midfield with only one change being made. In Center Mid would be Roma Captain Daniele de Rossi as Nainggolan goes to the outside due to the injury of Lorenzo Pellegrini. On the left would be the world class of Belgian Radja Nainggolan. On the opposite side at right Midfield would be Kevin Strootman. Then finally up front as the front three would be the exact same as last week. On the right wing would be Diego Perotti I’m glad he gets another start Roma are a different team when he is in the lineup. On the opposite side of on the right wing would be the Roma’s Turkish young star Cengiz Under who has five goals in 2018 Roma are hoping he can continue that form into this game. Then finally up front as the main Striker would be the big Bosnian Edin Dzeko who is looking to get his season back on track. Roma also have a strong bench something they will need against this Napoli team with the likes of Stephan El Shaarawy Gerson and Patrik Schick.

After preparations predictions and speculations for this match it was time to get this massive match underway. As Roma and Napoli kicked off at the San Paulo Stadium the game of the week in Italian football. A match destined for Non-Stop action. The referee blew his whistle and we got underway. We didn’t have to wait very long for the game’s first chance and surprisingly it would be Roma to try to hit first. In the game’s opening 2 minutes Diego Perotti caught a cross from Radja Nainggolan the Argentine attempted a header from the six-yard box but missed the target. Possession wise Napoli dominated and they were playing a much more aggressive and attacking football. They looked all as dominant as they usually are. We would only have to wait a minute for Napoli to get their first chance. Jorginho sent a through ball to the very dangerous Lorenzo insigne he would strike from distance but Allison denied him. Fortunately for Napoli in the 6th minute they would get a break through. When Lorenzo insigne received a ball from Marco Rui in a dangerous area they striker got his foot to it getting a slight deflection as it went into the back of the net nothing Allison could have done as Napoli take the 1-0 Lead. Excellent team play to create that opportunity Napoli were playing exceptional football surely out playing the Romans even early it was clear. I honestly thought Roma were dead in the water when that one went in. Roma isn’t a team that usually can go goal for goal with a team like Napoli. However that is exactly what happened. They’re would be an immediate response in fact less than 90 seconds later Roma would take advantage. In the 7th minute Roma’s Radja Nainggolan send a perfect through ball to their Turkish star Cengiz Under the youngster left his Defender in dust as he approached the Box he attempted a chip that took a slight deflection on the defender as the ball just flew into the back of the net to immediately equalize making it 1-1.

Cengiz Under watches his deflected chip find in the back of the net to score his 6th goal of of 2018.

It would be Cengiz Under’s sixth goal of the season he is just playing so well right now in great form. my tea was still hot and there was two goals in the opening 10 minutes just maddening. This was followed by a stampede of Napoli chances after Roma’s goal they were just dominating in all aspects of the game. Dries Mertens tried from the side of the box just a few minutes after The Equalizer. Napoli was just getting warmed up as he got yet another chance shortly he took a splendid strike from outside the box nearly scoring but just missed. The Roma defense was having an issue dealing with what Napoli was bringing forward they were just trying to hold on for dear life. The Napoli attack only continued as Lorenzo insigne continue to threaten making Roma fans nervous. His shot from the center of the box was denied by Alison making a good save. Insigne tried again with a deadly strike from outside the box but once again Allison prevailed with a superb save. It almost became a battle between Lorenzo insigne and Allison because he would get another chance to score within 10 minutes. the Italian International attempted a strike from the side of the box but missed as it remained even. This match was completely dominated by Napoli however in football as we saw last week against Milan it’s about taking advantage of your chances. something Roma have not done well this season but lo and behold in the 26th minute it happened. Alexandro Florezni sent a deep cross into the 6’4 Edin Dzeko the Bosnian connected what the header as it flew into the back of the net to give Roma the 2-1 lead. It would be Edin Dzeko 14th goal of the season. Despite dominating Napoli now were down. Edin Dzeko looked great in this game. he would get another chance as we got deeper into the first half when a Dzeko stuck from Deep but Pepe Reina saved his chance. the amount of action was everything we could have asked for. In the remaining 5 minutes there were non-stop chances. Raul Alboli saw his shot from Deep saved. Lorenzo insigne once again looked dangerous however he saw his shot saved by the big Brazilian Who put in quite a shift in this game. next Kevin Strootman shot from deep but missed That was Then followed up buy another Allison save on Lorenzo insigne. With under missing from Deep to end the first half with Roma ahead thanks to under and Dzeko.

Edin Dzeko’s Header gives Roma their shock first half lead.

A brilliant first half from both teams Napoli dominating playing some really great football and Roma taking advantage of chances. It was all in all a very entertaining thrilling opening 45 minutes. It’s got even more tense in the second half with both teams really wanting it. Napoli were frustrated not having scored more and they’re aggressiveness and they’re attacking Style Just escalated. As Napoli were getting chance after chance after chance. Jose Callejón gave Napoli the first chance of the half as his shot from a difficult angle missed. This would only be the beginning Jorginho sent a cross that connected with Lorenzo insigne’s head but his chance was just wide. Few minutes later Napoli were in a yet again as zielinski set up Insigne but in the battle between him and Allison; Allison continued to come out on top making a wonderful save. The domination Napoli could not be understated they were completely running the second half. With about 10 minutes gone Napoli had yet another chance as Allen tried a shot from Deep but missed. The chances Napoli had where endless but they weren’t Sharp. Finally Roma got a chance in the second half coming off of corner from Alex Kolarov he connected with the head of Edin Dzeko a very close opportunity but just missed. Then we got to see some more threatening opportunities from one Lorenzo insigne. He tried another shot from deep a close opportunity but missed. The Napoli Winger follow that up by another shot from Deep but Alisson saved once again. Roma would make their first change of the game as Gerson came on for under. Yet another inspiring performance from The Turk. In the 73rd minute immediately coming off the sub Edin Dzeko looked like the Edin Dzeko of last season as he struck a long ranger burying it in the bottom corner to give Roma the 3-1 lead. It would be Edin Dzeko’s 16th goal of the season and his second of the game he has been nothing short of brilliant here today. This was deep in the game it’s spelled the end for Napoli. However that didn’t stop their aggressive play in fact the next chance would require Allison’s World quality. As he met Lorenzo insigne near his goal once again the Napoli Winger took a shot from the side of the box that was saved then tried again off his save with Allison denying him again pulling off a superb double save. Lorenzo insigne in all senses of the word was pocketed by Allison in any other game he scores 4 goals but not today. In the 79th minute it went from pulling an upset to Absolute Madness. Coming off a Napoli defensive error Diego Perotti smashed home a fourth for Roma from the center of the box. It would be Diego Perotti’s 7th goal of the season he has proven he is worth the new contract he signed. Roma would go to the bench for the again as Lorenzo Pellegrini replaced Diego Perotti as well as Stephan El Shaarawy coming in for Daniele de Rossi. Then in the 92nd minute Napoli finally broke through as Dries Mertens converted a shot from outside the box as Napoli got one go back to make it 4-2. It was too little too late as Roma pick up a massive three points at the San Paulo to leave Napoli stunned. As Roma get a much important win. Getting 3rd back as well as putting Juventus in the driver seat for the title. I’d like Napoli to still win it but Roma had a job to do and they did it this will only put them in great position for that third place spot an incredible night for Di Francesco and Roma.

Dzeko and Perotti both find the back of the net in the second half in a shock 4-2 win.

In a massive game regarding the landscape of the league title and Champions League race we saw and absolute Thriller of a game. Napoli went into this game as heavy favorites they were top of the league winners of 12 games on the Run unbeaten in the last 15 this was the team in Italy at this moment. What I witnessed tonight I was absolutely stunned by I am shell shocked. Not only did Roma pull off the upset they scored four goals against the best team and best defense in Italian football. Roma were dominated for the majority of this match and infact after just six minutes they were already down personally when the first goal win in I thought it was already over. Roma would only get back into the game less than a minute later as under supplied some Turkish Magic. Napoli was strong passed well did everything pretty exceptionally well aside from finishing. Twice as many chances to score twice as many opportunities they were threatening twice as much. Roma for the first time this season showed clinical finishing in front of goal. They have struggled to take advantage of their chances all season long and this game was their most efficient performance of the season. Roma scored on  over 50% of their shots on goal. Despite being dominated Roma played really well you saw it at many times how they took advantage of Napoli when they were the most vulnerable. Even though that didn’t happen often Outstanding performances from practically the entire Squad. Cengiz Under scoring his sixth goal of 2018. We saw Diego Perotti Alexandra Florezni and Radja Nainggolan played exceptionally well in their roles. not to mention how great Allison was in goal he kept Roma in this game throughout the 90 minutes his super ability allowed Roma to take advantage on the other end. Today’s man of the match however goes to Edin Dzeko all season at least most of it he struggled to find the goal on a consistent basis not only did he score but he scored twice breaking 15 goals this season looked like the Dzeko of old as he became the first player ever score 50 goals and three of the top 5 leagues. He was a good leader on the pitch played exceptionally well all of his opportunities. It was a little concerning when the formation came out at 443 but it worked and they took advantage of the most informed team in Italy. Starting Diego Perotti and finishing in front of goal were massive reasons for Rome’s victory. In the grand scheme of things as far as the league goes this is a massive fixture for what the result of the campaign might be. Juventus beat Lazio this morning to put even more pressure on Napoli the Turin Giants have a game in hand. Roma’s victory at the San Paolo Stadium puts Juventus in the driver seat for yet another title Napoli let themselves down today for the amount of chances they had to not come away with a victory has to be disappointed. With this Victory it will only help Roma push on for the season who now seem like the favorites to finish third despite the tight race it will be. Also Roma have now picked up back-to-back wins in Naples Roma also now are unbeaten in 20 of their last 21 away matches. Di Francesco job is safe and sound as Roma pull the upset.
