Coming off Roma’s biggest win of the season in a 4-2 to win against Napoli at the San Paulo. The Romans will return it to action as they head home To face Torino for the third time this season. Roma won their first meeting against to Torino in late October with a1-0 win in Turin. Torino however did get revenge when they eliminated Roma from the Coppa Italia in a 2-1 away win. Roma hold a major advantage in the head-to-head matchup with Torino only having one 4 games against Roma in history. However with that being said two of those wins have come in the last two seasons. The two clubs are separated by 6 places in the table with a 17 point difference. Torino do have the ability in their squad to pull and upset but after beating Napoli away from home Roma going to this as heavy favorites. Torino did not play last week due to the sudden passing of Fiorentina Captain David Astori So before I go any further I want to give my condolences and my thoughts are with his family. This is a massive game even though it may not look it with the race for the third place spot still very much up for grabs with inter Lazio and roma all fighting it’s important for Roma to win to keep the momentum going.
Roma return home after a excellent performance in Naples last weekend. Roma are probably the best team away from home in the Italian Top Flight. However at the stadio olimpico they have struggled this season. In this game Roma should be able to handle the Turin boys. Di Francesco controversially stuck with the 4-3-3 formation last weekend after losing against Milan at home using it. It’s proved to be the right decision in their big win against the League leaders. Roma were dominated that game which is a slight cause for concern but Torino don’t have the stars that Napoli do. So I don’t see them getting dominated in this game as far as their team goes I would probably stick with exactly the same 11. They’re finishing last week with excellent for the first time this season they excelled with their in front of goal. In the five shots they had on target Roma scored four of them. It was their most technical performance offensively. Roma will see The Return of Lorenzo Pellegrini who came on late in the Napoli game. He has fully recovered from his thigh injury and will be available to play Big minutes against Torino. he will likely slide in for Daniele De Rossi who picked up an injury of his own. The Roma Captain will be in all likelihood sidelined for this match. the rest of the team should stay pretty much the same. Their defense did pretty well against a very aggressive and Napoli attack. Not to mention Allison was playing out of his mind to keep the three points. Given the amount of pressure he was faced with last weekend. Their job will have to be the same against a decent mid-table side that Torino have. They were able to neutralize Lorenzo insigne and Dries Mertens which was a big part of their victory. Torino have an equally dangerous Striker in Andrea Belotti who is it capable goal scorer when he is on he doesn’t typically perform all that well against Roma but the threat is going to be there regardless. Roma from Back to Front have more quality than Torino and will ultimately be too much to deal with. Radja Nainggolan will be a big part of controlling that Midfield and helping the attack push forward with Pellegrini and Strootman to hold the defensive line in front of the defense. Roma want to limit as much attacks as they possibly can. But Roma’s biggest asset going forward in this game is there attack. With under their Turkish Winger continuing to play extremely well he will cause a problem the 20 year old has six goals since the start of 2018 and continues to thrive since being named a starter by DeFrancesco. In addition to that Dzeko seems to be back on form after his heroic performance in Naples if he can sustain it will only push on and make it more difficult for Torino to deal with as well as the Argentine Diego Perotti Roma are a much better side when he is playing. Make no mistake if Roma’s attack is at their best Torino will have some real issues. I see Edin Dzeko and under as the key players in this match this is a different team since the cup loss to Torino.
While Torino will be big underdogs in this game they are no scrubs. the tasks that will be in front of them on Friday will be a big test and it will take a valiant effort to stand a chance. However Torino have quality throughout their squad. Outside of Italy’s biggest teams they are considered one of the best along with Sampdoria and Atalanta. There isn’t a lack of quality in this team it all comes down to on what kind of day you can see them on. Despite only four wins in their history against Roma two of those ones have come in the last two seasons. Torino has to their disposal one of the best young Strikers in Italian football the explosive quick and at times lethal Andrea Belotti. He is incredibly hard to stop when he is in form it takes an incredible defensive performance to slow him down when he is firing on all cylinders. Unfortunately he hasn’t had many of those days this season with only eight goals this season after scoring 26 last year. Don’t let his goal total think he’s not a good player since 2015 he is 47 goals for Torino. however he is not the only weapon Torino do I have with the likes of Adam Ljajic, Niang, Daniela Baselli and Falque. A solid Midfield that can do damage on their day. They aren’t world-class players but they are very good players that could be infectious in a game like this. they have quality in their squad so they have the potential to make this into a game but I find it hard to believe they can pull an upset here. They will have to slow down the pace Cengiz Under and the height of Edin Dzeko which can be dangerous as well. Andrea Bellotti it’s going to need to have a spectacular game for Torino. I see Andrea Belotti and Daniella Baselli as Torino’s impact players if they are to have success these two need to be on form.
one of the best teams in the league versus one of the best mid-table teams in the league. The quality difference will show in this matchup there is a reason Roma’s in 3rd and Torino’s in 9th. there’s a lot of good things about Torino their are games were their excellent they’re going to need to have one of those excellent games. For Torino to pull an upset they are going to have to stop several players on Roma from being effective unfortunately for them I don’t believe they have the defensive players and necessary tools to stop unfortunately for them I don’t believe they have the defensive players and necessary to stop the speed the pace and the height of the team Roma have. Bellotti needs to have an unreal day for them to even get a point. I’m not saying they can’t do it or it can’t be done but it will take a masterclass for it to be done especially with Roma coming off a big win against the league leaders. Torino’s job is going to be massive trying to keep in check all these players. Roma’s job will be quite simple neutralize Andre and Bellotti they take him out of the game and make him ineffective on the pitch they don’t have a real scoring threats there are others that can do the job but without the lot is presents Torino will fall through the cracks. Despite Roma dodgy form at home I believe I just have too much quality for Torino to handle.
