Roma - Torino

Score: A.S Roma 3 Torino 0FT

Stadio Olimpico,Rome

Following Roma’s big 4-2 win at the San Paolo last weekend against Napoli ultimately damaging Napoli’s title Chase. Red hot Roma would return home for the 28th match of this year’s campaign. As they would welcome Torino to the Stadio Olimpico as they face off for the third time this season. Roma won the first meeting in Torino at the beginning of the season with a 1-0 win. Which was followed up by Torino knocking them out of the Coppa Italia. After last week’s big win Roma retained third place in the standing right where they want to be. While Torino sit and 9th in the Serie A table. Torino have won two of their last five matches a pretty average run a form while Roma have have won four of five matches as they seemingly have regained they’re fine form they showed at the beginning of the season. This fixture has been very one-sided throughout its history with Torino only being able to pick up Four wins ever against this Roma side. despite that Torino or one of the better mid table size in the league. It would be a massive match at Stadio Olimpico on this Friday evening. Roma hoping to remain in that top three as well as getting some momentum going into Tuesday night where they will host Shakhtar Donetsk and the second leg of the Champions League round 16. The first half was very uneventful for Roma despite dominating possession Torino was the better team as they challenge the goal consistently. Fortunately for Roma Allison defended the net not allowing a goal. After the first half it was scoreless. Roma opened up a lot more in the second half. They were able to push forward with great success as they turned the match around. Kostas Manolas would give a Roma the lead in the second half. This was followed up by goals from Daniela de Rossi and a stoppage-time goal from Lorenzo Pellegrini. As Roma dominated the second half earning a 3-0 win. As they finally win the game at home a place where they have struggled. Roma stay hot as they pick up their 5th win in the last 6. Roma are starting to create separation from Lazio and inter for that third spot. This win gives Roma great confidence going into the champions league on Tuesday. As the Giallorossi keeps on rolling.

Eusebio di Francesco and roma remained in the 4-3-3 formation after having used the 4-2-3-1 for a few weeks in February. It does seem that Roma will fully go back to Di Francesco’s preferred formation. Today’s lineup would be a little different regarding the suspensions of Edin Dzeko and Federico Fazio. Between the sticks as usual would be the best Keeper in the country in Alison Becker Who currently is in the top three in clean sheets this season. Roma’s defense would look very similar as well with only one change to their back four. At left-back would be the Serbian International Alex Kolarov. Beside him would be the centre-back partnership of Juan Jesus and Kostas Manolas. With Jesus coming in for Fazio in his position due to his suspension. Then finally as usual at the right back position would be Alexandro Florezni who has just opened contract negotiations with the club on a new deal. In front of the defense you would see the exact same Midfield as we saw against Napoli. Roma’s Captain Danielle de Rossi would fill out the Center Midfield spot as he was cleared to play by doctors after picking up an injury against Napoli as well as dealing with the grief of his friend Fiorentina’s David Astori who died of the heart attack last weekend. In at right Midfield would be the world class Radja Nainggolan who’s role in the Midfield will be very important for Romans attack. Then finally to cap off the Midfield playing on the right side will be Kevin Strootman a very strong midfield for Roma to say the least. There would be two changes in the front 3 for Roma. In on the right wing would be the red-hot Turkish youngster Cengiz Under who has six goals since the start of 2018 Roma the number one scoring option in this lineup. On the opposite side controlling the right wing we would see the return of Stephan El Shaarawy in the starting lineup after not having started for a few weeks he would be replacing Diego Perotti in that position. Then finally up front as the main Striker will be Patrik Schick as he looks to turn his uneventful season around he gets the nod coming in for Edin Dzeko who is serving a suspension. In addition Roma also have a very deep bench with Perotti,Pellagrini and Gerson all as options.

Roma - Torino

After preparations and predictions we were just about ready for the match to kick off on this Friday night. Prior to the match both Torino Roma gathered in a line as he paid tribute to Fiorentina Captain David Astori who recently died of a heart attack last Sunday. Fans inside the Stadio Olimpico held up banners reading “Ciao Davide” and “It was great to have you with us” before kick-off while players from both sides linked arms during an emotional tribute Davide Astori played for Roma during the 2014-2015 season. As we have seen and many games Roma dominated The Possession but was struggling to do anything with it early in the first half. They had a difficult time gelling especially early given in the absences of Dzeko & Fazio. Early in both teams are finding issues getting a good chance a few shots to start off the game but the majority of them were blocked or deflected by the defense. Roma’s was performing well defensively . only every once in awhile Torino would get into a good attack but Roma dealt with it for the most part. Roma however did get a lot of corners in the first half but struggled to do anything with them due to the lack of height with a Dzeko and a Fazio out Roma’s two tallest players it made free kicks and Corners difficult to take advantage of. Roma struggle to adapt without them Torino looked better early and made Roma nervous several times. Finally about 20 minutes into the first half we would have the first shot. When Christen Ansaldi stuck the ball following a corner but it went wide. This game didn’t take off until later in the first half the first half hour this game was very slow in creation. Late in the first half it picked up a little bit especially in regards to Torino. They were attacking with great strength and playing very well despite the lack of chances they were getting into position to make things happen. At the half-hour mark Falque gave Torino another opportunity as he struck a ball on the side of the box. But fortunately for Roma Allison was on form and made a tremendous save to keep the score level. Just a few minutes later Torino had a sensational chance coming off a corner Torino Striker Andrea Bellotti tried to get on the end of a cross coming from the wing the chance of the first half for Torino he got his foot to it just missing outside of the post. A tremendous chance missed from Torino. After several disappointing Roma corners Torino got on the attack again. Roma was clearly missing the height that they usually have on set pieces with the Dzeko and Fazio. As the first half. Was winding down Torino had two great chances but Allison denied Falque and Aqua. At the end of the half it was all even in a scoreless game.

Kostas Manolas Gives Roma lead in the second half as he gives tribute to David Astori
A very disappointing first half from Roma who yet again struggle at home. Despite controlling the possession of game they were much the inferior team as Torino really kicked it in gear near the end of the first half with several chances. Allison’s saves seemingly the only reason they had not taken advantage change was necessary in some respect going into the second half. In the second half Di Francesco didn’t change the formation but pushed Radja Nainggolan forward in more of an attacking role further up the pitch. Playing more Central than on the wing to benefit attacking play. In the second half Roma came out extremely strong going forward real fluidity between passes. They continue to dominate The Possession and basically prevented Torino from doing anything in the opening moments of the second half. It was all Roma it was exactly what they needed to do to open up the game. Roma got their first chance of the half minutes into it as under connected with Patrik Schick on the cross the Czech international got his head to it but it was saved in front of goal. Excellent correlation between the two as the second half starts off well for Roma. Just minutes later Roma would nearly be in again as Radja Nainggolan took an ambitious attempt from outside the box his strike from distant Missed he has scored too many from those types of distances so I don’t mind that shot. Roma really seem to be pushing on has they had a few shots blocked. Their ball movement was really excellent the way they were using the wings was really effective with Kolarov and Florenzi giving great service to the attack. Then in the 56th minute Roma would get the Breakthrough. Coming off a corner that was long Under allowed the ball to go out to Florenzi given his knowledge on his Crossing ability. Florenzi took the ball from the Wing to cross it back in and near-perfect delivery as Kostas Manolas rose up to head it into the back of the net to give a Roma they 1-0 lead. In his celebration he did a tribute to David Astori. It would be Kostas Manolas third goal of the season. It was excellent execution from roma but the greatest thing about the goal was under allowing the ball to go out to Florenzi he took his ego aside and it made an unselfish play allowing that to happen. Few minutes later under tried from distance but it was off Target. Roma continued to attack the box with Torino doing absolutely nothing in a second half. Roma came very close when Alex Kolarov tried to strike but it was at a very tight angle goal keeper was able to save. An excellent attack has led to that the Swift movements from the Roma players Schick looked especially strong at play despite not having a good first half. On the very next play Radja Nainggolan had another chance coming off a corner it was hit with excellent precision it was a perfectly hit ball but unfortunately it was too high he was inches away from scoring. We hadn’t really seen anything from Torino in the second half Bellotti was completely neutralized the Roma defense took him out of the game. Roma defense was excellent and is not given enough credit for the performance today. All four played as a unit eliminating opportunities. AS we got deeper into the game Roma only continued to push on Florenzi tried to strike a deep ball but he missed fired. It seemed Roma were capable of getting another goal and in 73rd and minute it happened. while on the wing Alexandro Florenzi attempted to strike a ball that was deflected off the defender’s foot as the ball dropped from the deflection Radja Nainggolan got an unbelievable powerful header to the ball to find a de Rossi in the Box the Roma Captain stroke the ball from the middle of box as he buried the shot into the bottom corner with his sliding shot. As Roma jumped to a 2-0 lead. it would be De Rossi’s first goal of the season with his last goal coming on the last day of the season a year ago. Roma slammed the door shut on Torino to get back into it as it seemed. As the game was coming down to a close Roma made their two substitutions as Lorenzo Pellegrini came in for the Rossi and Maxine Gonalons replacing Kevin Strootman. Roma continue to do well in front of goal and create some good chances while Torino didn’t manage a single chance until the 90th minute. it looked done and dusted dead and buried. However in stoppage time in the 93rd minute Roma would add another one. As the minutes were winding down in the match Radja Nainggolan got Roma on the break they were moving in numbers approaching Torino’s box Nainggolan made a quick pass into the box to find Lorenzo Pellegrini the Italian International took one touch before burying it into the bottom left corner to see off a 3-0 victory for Roma. it would be Lorenzo Pellegrini’s third goal of the season. Di Francesco gets his side exactly where he wants them Shakhtar awaits.

Roma - Torino

Danielle De Rossi and Kostas Manolas Share a moment after De Rossi’s goal
Roma’s strong showing in the second half would prove to be the difference as Roma top Torino at home at the Stadio Olimpico. It would be Roma’s 5th win in the last six games. After a really poor run of form in December Roma have got back to playing the way they are capable of. This is exactly the type of results Roma wanted with their second leg of the Champions League round of 16 against Shakhtar Donetsk coming up this Tuesday. This ultimately was a must-win for the team’s confidence and momentum going forward. Edin Dzeko and Federico Fazio we’re out in this match is due to suspension. In result it took them awhile to open up and start playing attacking football. In the first half Roma really struggled to create much and inner opportunities they came up short a lot of the time. The lack of height really wasn’t an issue and the early goings of the game Roma’s two tallest players out they were unable to have very clinical finishing touches in the first half especially off of corners and free-kicks. There was a serious lack of chances in the first half. In the second half Roma opened up a little bit more Eusebio Di Francesco. Made the right tactical adjustments in the second half allowing the team to get forward with much more success. Pushing Radja Nainggolan a little further allowed the attack to open up creating lots of chances in the second half. Kostas Manolas opened the scoring and put Roma on the front foot after the opening goal. Roma added two more with De Rossi and Lorenzo Pellegrini. After a very poor first half Roma responded with excellent play second half leading to a big win for Roma who has struggled at home this season. The most impressive thing in this game was the defense of Roma they literally took out Andrea Belotti and Baselli. The Torino Duo was unable to operate which was a large part of Roma success and this match. Allison once again stuck out in a super performance getting his 12th clean sheet of the season. The man of the match for this game as a tough one but on this occasion I’m going with Alexandro Florenzi he did excellent job getting the assist did really well to cross the ball and his movement was superb. But after consideration I’m going to give it to Kostas Manolas as well did well to score the goal and was excellent in defense. With this win it takes a Roma to 56 points as they try to put pressure on the Lazio and inter. The goal is to take full control of their place which would avoid having to qualify for the champions league as they would go in automatically. A brilliant performance from Di Francesco and roma with Shakhtar looming this is exactly what the team needed. During an emotional day regarding the death of former teammate David Astori Roma overcame it.
