Score: A.S Roma 2 Crotone 0FT
Stadio Ezio Scida,Crotone
Following Roma’s 1-0 win against Shakhtar Donetsk at home as they advanced to the Champions League quarter-finals where they will play Barcelona. Roma would return to League action as they would head out on the road To Faced off against relegation-threatened Crotone for the second time this season. Roma look for a season sweep of Crotone for the second year running having beaten them earlier this season at home. Roma currently are unbeaten in 20 of their last 21 away games they are one of the best teams away from home in all of Italy. Coming off there Champions League performance Roma would go into the match with great confidence as they try to continue to create separation from Lazio and Inter Milan for that third position. Roma changed quite a bit from their Champions League match but it didn’t matter they were the much better side throughout it. It completely and utterly controlled the game from start to finish El Shaarawy scored in his return to the starting lineup putting away is first-half strike then Radja Nainggolan added to the fire in the second half with an excellent finish as Roma take out very defensive Crotone and take care of business quite easily Roma win their third League match in a row and their 5th win in their last six games as they solidify their place in the top 3 even more.
Eusebio di Francesco made several adjustments to his Roma side giving rest to several players throughout the squad. Roma again aligning up in the 4-3-3 formation I don’t see Roma changing from it going forward. In goal as always would be the big Brazilian Alison Becker who is in the top 3 in clean sheets in the league. In the defense there would be two significant changes as Kostas Manolas and Alessandro florenzi would get some rest. Roma’s back 4 would look a little different at left-back as always would be the Serbian International Alex Kolarov he has been at the best at his position in the League this season. Beside him would be the centre-back partnership of Federico Fazio and Juan Jesus and then to cap off the defense at right-back would be Bruno Peres. An a little different look at the defense but I understand the move playing against one of the weaker teams in the league it is not necessary for Roma to have their strongest defense. Their would be two changes made to the Roma Midfield with the absence of daniele de Rossi and Kevin strootman both on the bench. In at the center mid spot making his first start in quite some time would be Maxine Gonalons to his right making a return it to the starting lineup would be Lorenzo Pellegrini. Then finally on the left would be the world class Belgian Radja Nainggolan despite the changes still a very strong midfield. The front 3 we would see two changes as Cengiz Under and Diego Perotti are given rest but will be available as substitutes. On the right wing replacing the Turkish wonderkid would be the Brazilian youngster Gerson. On the opposite side on the left-wing would be Stephan El Shaarawy coming in for Diego Perotti as the Italian gets back into the starting lineup. Then finally upfront as the main Striker would be the Bosnian edin dzeko who has been in exceptional form at the moment. Then as always Roma has a strong bench with very good options with the likes of Under,Perotti and Schick.
After preparations predictions and speculations for this match it was time for the match to get underway. Roma trying to get another season sweep of Crotone while Crotone is in a fight for points trying to do the impossible against the team they have never beaten or scored on. A massive fixture for the top of the table and the bottom with relegation and Champions League places at stake. The battle between 3rd and 16th would kick off at the Stadio Ezio Scida in Crotone. As you would suspect Roma dominated possession and looked it total control of the match the difference is quality was clear. Roma looked very threatening throughout the opening moments of the game. Crotone was struggling to create practically anything. Roma got their first chance of the game just passed the 10-minute Mark when Stephan El Shaarawy released radja nainggolan who struck drop a ball from Deep a place what he’s capable of scoring from Unfortunately the shot was a bit too high despitet he ambitious effort. Just a few minutes later dzeko would give Roma another chance when he struck a brilliant ball from Deep but the bosnians shot was saved by The Keeper. After the opening 2 chances it’s became very possession-based football with Roma having a ton of possession being rather careful on how they are were going to execute their attacks. So there were periods of time where there weren’t a lot of chances in the early part of the first half. However slowly but surely they started to open up the attack attempting to take advantage of opportunities. however Crtone did a brillent job with their defensive set up. Crotone fired a shot of their own but Allison was left unchallenged as Adrian Stoian’s shot was way off the mark. As it got deeper and deeper into the first half Roma responded as Radja Nainggolan sent a beautiful cross and connected with Gerson the young Brazilian got his head to it came very close was inches away from scoring. Despite the miss you can see Roma starting to break open the attack as the defence was struggling to deal with the Roma Stars despite the lack of shots.the strong defence was going to be broken down sooner or later. Finally the Moment of Truth arrived in the 39th minute Roma pulled off a perfectly executed play as Lorenzo Pellegrini in an attacking position gave a through ball in the box to Alex Kolarov who was on the wing. Kolarov would cross it into the box to find Stephan El Shaarawy who got his foot through it as he blasted it in the back of the net to give Roma the 1-0 lead. Excellent ball movement from Roma and as usual Sensational movement from El Shaarawy without the ball who got in position to score the opening goal. It would be Stephan El Shaarawy’s 8th goal of the season. He gets back into the starting lineup and then immediately delivers excellent goal excellent pass just overall great team play. That would end the first half with the Roma leading 1-0 thanks to a strike from El Shaarawy.
Stephen El SHaarawy Scores the Opener to give Roma the Lead
A very good opening 45 minutes for Roma despite just a few chances nearly every one of them was on target and was a valiant effort clinical finishing does not seem to be a problem anymore. Roma always seem to struggle in the first half they overcame that in the first 45 minutes playing quite well. Crotone tried to hit back as soon as a second-half again. When Ronaldo Mandrgora attempted to strike from the side of the box but Allison deny him making the save. Once again Crotone looked poor even on the Finish it is not surprising they have never even scored on Roma and any of their meetings against them. Their defense was their lone quailty. Roma continued to blow them away having control of the ball for most of the game The Possession battle was as one-sided as you could guess Roma nearly doubled their lead as radja nainggolan sent a through ball into Edin Dzeko. The striker took an excellent touch but he was denied by the keeper. Moments later Nainggolan Struck from Deep again a well hit very powerful ball but it was a little high. Then a few minutes later Roma got into a dangerous position again Lorenzo Pellegrini’s shot from Deep was saved in the bottom corner. It was very much Roma controlled game as they were getting a lot of good chances despite only scoring the one goal none other chances were poor they looked very strong going forward. Crotone a little while later got some rare chances. When Alisson dealt with Marcelo’s shot and Stoian got another chance as well but his shot missed horribly. With about an half hour to go Roma came very close with another dangerous chance. Stephan El Shaarawy released Radja Nainggolan with a through-ball the Belgian’s shot was stopped by the keeper it had certainly looked like it was only a matter of time before Roma put this away for good. Less than two minutes later Roma had yet another close call when Alex Kolarov came really close with his strike from Deep. Roma would then make their first substitution as Kevin Strootman came in for Lorenzo Pellegrini. Excellent showing from Pellegrini he is turned out to be a very solid player for Roma. Shortly after Crotone had a chance with Stoian’s strike once again Allison was able to deal with it. Roma made their second substitution as a Alexandra florenzi came in for Gerson a very good performance from Roma’s young Brazilian he has potential to be a very good player for Rome in the coming years he showed his quality once again. Near moments after the change Roma took advantage almost immediately when Radja Nainggolan put the game to bed. In 75th minute Alexandro Florenzi made his presence felt From the Bench delivering his headed to pass to an explosive Nainggolan. Roma’s Belgium star put the moves on two Defenders before striking a powerful low hit ball from Deep into the bottom corner to give Roma the 2-0 lead. It would be Radja Nainggolan’s 3rd and goal of the season despite the low number he has been nothing short of world-class this season. An absolutely brilliant strike from one of the world’s best midfielders. Alexandro Florenzi hit a strike coming off a free kick with less than 10 minutes to go but it was a bit high as he was unable to score a third. shortly after Roma made their final substitution of the game as Cengiz Under Roma’s young Turkish star got a little run out as he was given rest and clearly wasn’t needed and this match as El Shaarawy came off after an Exellent performance. Kolarov and Florenzi both tried to add to the lead with two late strikes but the writing was already on the wall as Roma coasted to an 2-0 win as Eusebio Di Francesco and Roma starts create even more separation from Lazio and Inter. Roma go into this International break in incredible form and with Barcelona upcoming in a few weeks this is exactly what this team needed.
Edin Dzeko and Maxine Gonalons Celebrate with Radja Nainggolan following his second half brace.
Roma just keep rolling as they win their fourth game in a row. Roma just continue and continue to get results since the start of the new year they are just a different team at the moment they are the most inform team in the league. Roma’s incredible performances away from home continue they are unbeaten in 21 of their last 22 games away from home and they are catching fire just as the right time. Following their recent advancement to the quarterfinals in the Champions League this team continues to play extremely well They currently are in the driver’s seat for third place as they continue to try to push some distance between Inter Milan and Lazio. Third spot is very Crucial because it is automatic entrance to the Champions League next season. They came here and took care of business completing a season sweep of Crotone for the second year in a row. Super performance from the defense and a much-improved in front of goal. They improved in the first half and were as deadly as always in the second half as Roma managed to pick a part relegation candidate Crotone. And El Shaarawy returned to the starting 11 and he scored the game’s opening goal at the end of the first half an excellent showing from him. It was Roma’s radja nainggolan day who put the game to bed in the second half and was the best player on the pitch with clinical movements his sharp passing and goal was superb. So for the third time this season radja nainggolan is the man of the match. Another excellent performance another three points eusebio di Francesco and roma the Romans are just hot right now you can only beat who’s in front of you and for the last several weeks Roma have constantly gotten results they have completely turned their season around since the start of the new year and will continue to be underestimated the way this team plays on what they can do going forward has no ceiling from Back to Front. they are exceptional on there a day and today was no different.
