Roma vs Bologna Preview #208

Cra

Football is back as International break comes to a close. Roma are set to head on the road again to face Bologna for the second time this season. After a previous 1 0 victory in Rome earlier this season Walmart are going to try to complete the season series against the mid-table side away from home. With a visit to Barcelona looming in the Champions League quarter-finals in just two weeks time Roma desire to keep their momentum going against a team they should have very little problem with. Roma have the ability to create even more separation between Inter Milan and Lazio for the third spot in the league. Roma are red-hot right now and they’re hoping to continue to keep that going coming off the international break.

A.S Roma

Eusebio Di Francesco and Roma have been firing on all cylinders since their big win against Napoli at the San Paolo Stadium. Roma are on a three-game winning streak and have won five out of their last six games in the league. Roma are currently furiously fighting with Inter Milan and Lazio for third place which holds great significance as third place goes into the Champions League directly without having to qualify. Roma are playing incredibly well epsically away from home and are better than practically anyone in Italian football being unbeaten in 22 other last 23 away matches. I would suspect that Di Francesco will play attacking football when they have space and time to operate They are absolutely lethal in their attack pushing the ball forward. I think it is possible that Roma do make a few changes given the big difference in quality. With the Barcelona match upcoming he may rest a few players so they can be fresh in the much important the away leg in Spain. I would say Roma will line up with their usual defense I don’t see any changes being made there. In the Midfield I see Lorenzo Pellegrini coming in for Daniele De Rossi giving the Roma captain a day off Pellegrini has done really well lately so I think hes earned the right to get back into the starting 11. It still should be a very strong Midfield with Radja Nainggolan Kevin Strootman and Lorenzo Pellegrini  that trio can cause major problems for the defense and this is probably the best way to attack the Midfield especially with Radja Nainggolan as he will be the Catalyst of the Roma attack. in the Roma attack I also see some changes being made their Turkish youngster Cengiz Under I think should be rested for this game they’re going to need their Turkish star to be fresh for some of their more difficult matches in the near future. Upfront I see Edin Dzeko paired with Stephan El Shaarawy and Diego Perotti all three are in very good form playing extremely well over Roma’s hot stretch. Roma are very capable of getting the three points here and I think Bologna will have a hard time dealing with the Roma Stars. The key player for Roma in this one for me is Diego Perotti every time he starts Roma seem to play exceptionally well I think with his speed and his excellent dribbling ability he and the rest of the Roma attack will be very dangerous when the opportunities come Roma will score goals.

Bologna

Bologna - Napoli
Bologna is a very secure mid-table team they’re not going to be challenging in Europe and there is no danger of relegation they’re pretty average from the outset. They can on occasion pull off some good results against some of the bigger teams but there’s nothing about them that really jumped off the page as far as something to be worried about when going up against them. Roma beat them twice last year already once this season so it would take a pretty big effort for them to pull off an upset. They’re on a decent run of form with two wins a draw and two losses in their last five but they picked up a pretty big result in their last game as they leveled with Roma’s Rivals Lazio in a hard-fought point. From a tactical standpoint they will try to jam the Midfield with as many bodies as possible in hopes of getting a point I think they will play for the draw here because of the mismatch it will be their best chance at getting something from the game. While Bologna don’t have any real star power like Roma have someone that I think can do some damage is Simone Verdi he’s been pretty exceptional for them this season I see him as their main point of attack breaking the Roma defense is very difficult and my guess is they will use him in the Box to try to get him in a dangerous area. It will almost certainly be on him to make something happen they don’t have a lot of Firepower which may be an issue and have some structural issues in breaking down Roma but Verdi is key..

Bottom line

Last Meeting: 1-0 Roma 10/28/17

In this match we have two different types of teams Roma who are currently in 3rd fighting for that Champions League spot in the quarterfinals of that very competition a team full of quality they’re not the best team in Italy but they are one of the elites. Then you have a team in Bologna who’s in 11th who have some quality in the squad I’ll give them of that but a very mid-table not good enough to do anything special but they’re not bad enough to be relegated. Which is a dilemma the difference in quality between them is a huge Factor usually if you have one star player you have a shot as the underdog but Bologna don’t seem to have that one player. They Will very much try to park the bus they will do anything to get a point they will pack in it to try to limit opportunities taken by the Romans. Their defense isn’t very strong they don’t have any real dangerous scoring options and that is what will cost them. Roma are in Fantastic form they’re playing on every game some of  Roma’s issues from earlier in the season are no longer a problem they’re finding ways to score goals and win games and away from home there is no one on the same wavelength that’s them they are just a very dangerous team you do not want a visit from Roma . Roma has not lost away from home this season with the strong Midfield and the speed they will have in their Strike force it will make it very hard for Bologna to match anything they do that’s not to mention that Roma has one of the best defenses and they have the best Keeper in Italian football in Alisson this will make it very difficult for bologna. I think playing for the draw will be there strategy the second Roma score of goal their game plan will collapse they do not have the weapons to counter and opening goal from Roma. Simone Verdi will have to have an unreal game to give them a chance. Eusebio Di Francesco’s son plays for Bologna but I don’t even think  that will give them a tactical advantage I see Roma keeping their hot streak going and leaving with three points in the bag. Which will put them in great position as they will take that momentum into the Champions League bologna simply don’t have enough to match the super star power that Roma have. Radja Nainggolan will push the Roma attack forward and supply the Roma attackers with a lot of opportunity to score eventually one will fall and bologna at won’t have the resources to come back.
