Score: A.S Roma 1 Bologna 1FT
Following the international break Roma return to League action as they try to keep their winning streak going. Prior to the international break Roma found themselves in the mist of a three-game winning streak. Roma would head on the road to face a mid-table side Bologna as Roma would be welcomed to the Renato Dall’Ara for the 30th match of this year’s Serie campaign. When these two teams faced off at the beginning of the season in Rome it was a narrow 1-0 victory for Roma. Roma having the chance here to complete a season sweep Bologna who just happens to feature Federico Di Francesco who is the Sun of Roma’s boss Eusebio di Francesco. Despite Roma having a little bit of breathing room in the race for third this match will be a great opportunity for the Romans to create more separation from Lazio and Inter Milan. Away from home this season Roma have been unreal arguably the best in the entire league as they are unbeaten in 22 of their last 23 matches away from the Stadio Olimpico. Roma dominated quite handedly during the beginning of the match they look so strong attack too well everything was going to go away until Radja Nainggolan had to leave with injury allowing the game to open up for their opponents Bologna took advantage immediately Eric Pular Gave bologna the shock lead. Roma try to respond as best as they could and came close several times including some really bad misses they struggled to put the ball in the back of the net. After a goalless first half Roma tried to be more aggressive but without Nainggolan in Midfield became difficult it had looked for at least part of this game that Roma was going to lose but late in the game coming off the bench was Edin Dzeko who ultimately scored and rescued a point for Roma. A disappointing result to say the least they didn’t do well enough with their chances however they are still in very good shape to get top three this season. This will makes their match against fourth-place Lazio in a few weeks time the most crucial of the season.
Roma have an upcoming quarter finals matchup with Barcelona on Wednesday so because of this Eusebio di Francesco gave rest some of his players. Roma would still operate out of the 4-3-3 formation but had a little different look from what we saw in the Roma team last time. In goal as usual the newly-named Brazil Captain Roma’s number one Alison Becker Who currently is second in the league with clean sheets with 13 this season. news has came out regarding Allison’s future this week with Roma President James Pallotta saying that Roma doesn’t need to sell their best players which is certainly words of encouragement to the Roma supporters. Roma returned to their typical starting defense for this game. At left-back would be the Serbian International Alex Kolarov who has proven to be one of the best at his position this season. Beside him would be the centre-back partnership of Federico Fazio and Kostas Manolas. then finally to cap off the defense as the team’s a right back it would be Alexandro Florenzi. In front of the defense there would be two changes to Roma’s 3 in the Midfield. returning to Roma’s Midfield would be Daniele De Rossi as the Roma Captain replaced Maxine Gonalons in that position. on the left would be Roma’s glue in the Midfield the world class Belgian Radja Nainggolan. Then on the right coming in for Lorenzo Pellegrini who was one of the Roma players rested in this match would be Kevin Strootman who returns to the starting lineup. In the Roman attack they would be a few changes to their front three. On the right wing it would be Stephan El Shaarawy who gets another start as he shifts over to the left after playing on the right as he fills in for Gerson. Cengiz Under Roma’s usual starter didn’t make the trip as he was given a full day of rest as the manager understands his value to the Barcelona game on Wednesday. On the right wing it would be Diego Perotti Returning to the starting 11. Then finally up front as the main Striker coming in for Edin Dzeko who was another Roma player that was given rest. Would be Patrik Schick as the Czech International get another chance to prove himself as he has been Injury-prone and very disappointing this season. Then as always a very strong bench from Roma featuring Edin Dzeko Gerson and others.
After predictions and preparations for this match it was time to kick off as Club football finally is back. Roma would attempt a season sweep while bologna would attempt to steal points as they did to Roma’s rivals just a few weeks ago. It’s not must win game for Roma but they want to stay in the driver seat for third so every game has importance with under 10 games to go in the season everyone has something to play for. The first Serie A match of the day kicked off as the players of both teams took the field. As expected Roma came out with great aggression and were in attack mode early. In the opening five minutes Roma came very close as they provided the first chance of the match. Coming off of corner struck by Radja Nainggolan Roma’s Alex Kolarov attempted a shot from Deep but missed the target. Moments later Roma were in Prime position to score once again with Radja Nainggolan facilitating. As the Belgium setup Patrik Schick for his first chance the game the striker struck a well hit ball but a goalkeeper denied him making the save. Early in the game things looked promising with the way they were attacking the goal. That would only continue when Roma’s Captain nearly gave them the lead just a few minutes later. When Kolarov created space on the left wing and sent in a beautiful cross into De Rossi the Roma captain got his head to it and put it right on goal with keeper saving it to keep the scores even. everything was flowing really well Roma were attacking getting in good space to score they couldn’t have started any better. So of course something tragic had to happen just passed the 15th minute Mark of the game Roma’s most important player picked up a crucial injury. As Radja Nainggolan the Belgium International grabbed his thigh as he felt some discomfort he tried to play it off but ultimately was forced to come off. Gerson came on to replace him but it must be sad this is a devastating injury because he now is in doubt to play against Barcelona on Wednesday which is a game they would have needed his services. the injury took the glue of the Midfield out of Roma. And an opportunistic bologna a team took advantage at their first opportunity. In the 18th minute bologna took a shock lead with Roma’s beating heart out of the Midfield without Radja Nainggolan bologna almost immediately took advantage as Federico De Francesco Roma’s manager’s son set up Erick pulgar for the opening goal as he struck it from outside-the- box. To give bologna the 1-0 lead there was very little that Allison could have done to save it so sadly Roma find themselves behind just 20 minutes in. Roma tried to respond immediately with Patrik Schick and he came very close as he got his head to a Danielle de Rossi cross Schick came very close to scoring but his Finishing Touch wasn’t good enough as his header went wide. Roma remained aggressive but without that big piece in the Midfield they struggled which allowed Bologna to kind of open up and start getting a few chances of Their Own. With about 15 minutes left in the first half Federico Di Francesco tried and ambitious strike from well outside the box but missed horribly. The coach’s son just tried a little too much on the strike. Moments later Roma got a good pair of chances to try to equalize before the end of the half. First Kolarov connected with Patrik Schick on a corner but his header once again missed wide. Then moments later Roma had a tremendous chance to score but we ended up seeing an atrocious Miss from Kevin Strootman. The Dutchman had a wide-open goal and couldn’t convert on it he hit it too high as it hit the post and came out a massive Miss for Roma who were looking to get back into the game with an equalizer. Near seconds later Roma had yet another chance with Patrik Schick but his shot from the side of the box was off Target as the youngster missed again. It got deeper and deeper into the second half with Roma somehow still behind in a match that they have dominated. With a few minutes to go Patrick Schick was set up bye Gerson on a tremendous play Schick put his laces through it but it keep her saved it to end the half as bologna had a shock 1-0 lead thanks to Erick pulgar.
Kevin Strootman blows and Open goal chance in the first half.
It was a disappointing first-half to say the least Roma struggled with their clinical finishing in front of goal. It is something that has come up before But lately it has not been an issue it has been Revisited in this first half. The loss of Radja Nainggolan to injury really affected the first half as it completely turn the game around. In the second half it would require much better finishing for Roma to get back into the game. To start the second half Roma dominated possession and look dangerous on many occasions going forward. They were determined to get back in this game largely because 4th Place Inter and 5th Place Lazio were playing the bottom two teams In the league so points here are a must if they wanted to continue to create separation from them. There wasn’t that much action in the opening moments of the second half but as the game progressed they were playing against the clock It was necessary to at least get a point so they can have some momentum going into the champions league on Wednesday night. With about a half hour to go Eusebio Di Francesco was forced to bring on Edin Dzeko given the situation of the game he probably would have liked To rest him throughout the game so he could be fresh for Wednesday but at this point he did not have a choice Roma needed to goal. And evidently it was a wise decision as he came in for Stephan El Shaarawy who had an uneventful day up to that point. Shortly after the substitution Patrik Schick took another shot at goal coming in from the left side trying to break on the keeper but instead his shot was saved. Time went on and on as they continued to play against the clock it would have been very costly if a loss occurred here Given how well Roma been playing lately it was important for Roma to at least get a point. With less than 20 minutes to go Roma made their second substitution as Gregorio Defrel came in for Kevin Strootman who let his team down today. Then immediately after the substitution in the 76 minute Dzeko delivered on what he was brought on to do. Diego Perotti drove the ball deep into bologna danger area he was inside the Box in a very dangerous position and at the last minute he Cuts in a cross to find Edin Dzeko who put his head through it into the back of the net to equalize late to make it 1-1. An excellent pass and run by Perotti and it was nicely finished by Dzeko great link up play between the two to get Roma back into the game. it would be Edin Dzeko as he continues to climb up the Roma goal charts and continues to be effective it would be his 18th goal of the season. Roma continue to push on to see if they could try to win this game. They kept coming and coming playing as aggressive as they possibly could It was very late But they kept fighting for that second goal. Alex Kolarov took a deep strike coming from an Allison a goal kick it was an ambitious effort but the left-back just missed. Patrik Schick got his head to a Alexandro Florenzi cross but sadly his header just missed as time was winding down. Then a few minutes later Perotti tried a strike from outside the box during the end of stoppage time it was a good strike but it was too late for a winner as they ran out of time. Eusebio Di Francesco and Roma had a much-improved second-half as they settle for a draw Roma are now unbeaten for 23 out of the last 24 away matches but the big headline of this match was the injury to Belgian Superstar Radja Nainggolan.
Edin Dzeko Rescues Roma will his second half goal off the bench.
Dzeko late goal salvages a point for Roma to keep their unbeaten streak going but their winning streak comes to an end at bologna. A game of opportunity and missed chances is how I would describe it from Roma’s point of view. They did everything they needed to score Roma could have had several goals but they’re finishing was poor. This is something that has not been an issue lately and hopefully after tonight it won’t be an issue again given the fact that Roma play Barcelona in Spain on Wednesday. It wasn’t Roma strongest lineup because Eusebio Di Francesco wanted to rest players for the upcoming Champions League match. The outcome of this match could have been completely different had Radja Nainggolan not come off injured so early in the game. When he had to be subbed off it took Roma’s Catalyst away and Roma had issues dealing with it. In most games Roma dominate the play in this game it was no different there more shots they passed at a higher percentage they controlled possession they’re finishing was their issue not their plan of attack. However without Radja Nainggolan it’s became difficult to manage. The second he was subbed off bologna scored almost immediately which really shows his value to this team. At points it looked like Roma were going to lose but Edin Dzeko came on Off the Bench and scored to preserve a point for the Romans. The injury to the Belgium star Radja Nainggolan forced Di Francesco to play him he was probably planning to rest him but given the situation he didn’t have a choice because Roma needed a goal. Today’s man of the match goes to Edin Dzeko who picks up his 10th man-of-the-match Award of the season. The only played and very limited amount of minutes due to the fact Roma needed to goal. Despite that he delivered Roma doesn’t get a point without that goal he comes on and delivers when his team needed him the most which not only proves to be an important goal in the game but an important goal for the table as Inter Milan and Lazio both picked up three points today. Alex Kolarov also played tremendously well throughout the game on the defensive end really limiting chances thrown in his Direction. There were several positive points Patrik Schick and Strootman really struggle today who were at times very wasteful in front of goal. I think in order for Schick to flourish he needs more time But he let himself down today. Roma’s finishing just wasn’t good enough and that’s a large part why they failed to get three points. However they got a point which will help them further their case to get back into the Champions League it was a disappointing result but the most unsetting part about the game is the injury to Radja Nainggolan who now is in doubt for the Barcelona game on Wednesday.
