Under fires Roma to fourth straight win as Juventus awaits #239

Score: A.S Roma 1 Cagliari 0FT

Following Roma’s exit from the Champions League in their controversial semi-final elimination at home against Liverpool. The Romans head back on the road as the season comes down to the wire with just three games remaining this season. As I’ve said for the past week winning games is essential at this stage of the season. Roma actually have an opportunity on their hands with Lazio drawing to Atlanta Roma can create a little space between them and Lazio. With Juventus coming to town next week. This week the team is in Cagliari. As they are welcomed to the Sardegna Arena as they face Cagliari A Team that just sits a few points out of the relegation Zone They very much want to avoid getting dragged back down there with only one team that can be relegated with benevento and Verona having already gone down. Roma are looking for a season sweep of Calgary having won the earlier meeting this season on a stoppage-time winner from Federico Fazio in Rome. This match is important for both teams with a win here for Roma it is possible that they can end Inter Milan’s chance at Champions League football as well as create a little space between them and Lazio for that final automatic Champions League final with points for Cagliari it could help them get out of the bottom . Roma are ridiculously good away from home having won 25 other last 26 league matches. It would be rather ugly game from both as the game  took a long time to open up. Despite this game being uneventful at times Roma took advantage are thier chances as Cengiz Under gave Roma the early lead on a superb strike from the youngster. To give a Roma a 1-0 lead in the first half. In the second half the game opened up a little bit more but the result did not change as Cagliari were very wasteful and Roma buried at the chance they needed to to pick up another massive three points. As they go on to win their fourth in a row. The Romans now hold a two-point advantage in front of Lazio and a four-point lead on Inter. Next week it’s going to get a lot tougher as Juventus Comes To Town with only two matches left this season the race for the Champions League only heats up but Roma remain in the driver’s seat.

A fair few changes for Eusebio Di Francesco’s side. Roma would operate out of the 4-3-2-1 making a slight change the formation ahead of this game which was largely due to the lineup That Roma put out. In goal between the sticks as usual would be Brazil’s number one Alison Becker Who currently ranks third and clean sheets this season with 15 one of the best in the world. The back for for Roma will be different to the one that lined up against Liverpool. Shooting out of the defensive line would be at left-back Alex Kolarov who has been one of the best at his position in Italian football this year. Beside him would be the center back partnership Federico Fazio and Elio Capradossi who makes his season debut. A pair that have not really played together this season other then in training. Then at right back to fill out the defense would be Bruno Peres coming back into the fold replacing Florenzi at that spot. In front of the defense as the team’s defensive Midfield would be made up of Roma captain Daniele De Rossi and Maxine Gonalons. As Strootman remains injured and Pellegrini on the bench for this one. In the Center Midfield would be Roma the Belgian Radja Nainggolan in the central position on the left side would be Roma’s Brazilian youngster Gerson then on the right side would be Roma’s Turkish youngster Cengiz Under who returns to the lineup. Then finally up front as the main Striker would be the red hot Edin Dzeko who has scored and 5 out of his last six games. As always a strong bench with the likes of Lorenzo Pellegrini, Kostas Manolas and Patrik Schick.

After predictions of preparations for this match we were just about to get on the way. A match containing a team in a fight for survival and a team in a fight for a Champions League return. The game kicked off in Cagliari for the night match an Italian football. The game started with an immediate chance from Cagliari who wasted no time and trying to threaten Roma’s goal. As Alexandra Deiola deep strike came very close as it whisked Over the Bar. A very ambitious chance from the hosts. Just a few minutes later they took another crack from outside the box again close but missed. A strange strategy in the early part of this game as a massive underdogs I understand the chances but given how they were flowing early they should have went for a higher percentage shot. Neither team really was in control of the game. As it would happen the two wasted chances in the opening 10 minutes by Cagliari would come back to haunt them. In the 15th minutes the late night game would be an injection with some Turkish delight. Under had an initial shot blocked by the Defense that swung outside to Edin Dzeko just outside the box the Bosnian would supplied a Pitch Perfect pass back to Under who had the ball inside of the box. Roma’s Turkish star took a few dribbles before he placed a cheeky low  shot into the bottom corner to give Roma the 1-0 lead. An extremely low shot I don’t think it even lifted off the ground he just pocketed it right where it was necessary. An exquisite pass by Edin Dzeko to set that up the passing precision shown on his touch was world class. Not to mention the Poise and the accuracy of the Finish By Roma’s youngster. It would be Cengiz Under’s 8th goal of the season which is a career-high for the 20 year old. What a player he has been since the start of 2018 if he was playing like this during the first half of the season easily could have had twice as many goals as he does. Next season he will tear it up you can just tell with this kid he is special. Just a few minutes later Roma got another chance when Gerson set up Alex Kolarov from outside the box but unfortunately his shot misfired. Afterwards the game got very flat. there were just a pair of chances for each team and then a whole lotta nothing for quite a while. It’s became possession-based football and not a lot of changes were coming or creating through it. Roma had a slight Edge in The Possession battle But ultimately it made a little to no difference because of the lack of chances. Finally the game would get some action. Just a few minutes past the half-hour mark Alexandro Deiola send a cross to Leonardo Pavoletti but he failed to find the back of the net as Allison saved in the center of the goal.A very minutes later Alexandra Deiola misfired again As Time expired to end the first half. An uneventful first half with Roma leading 1-0 thanks to a goal from Cengiz Under.

Cengiz Under gets mobbed by his teammates after his opening goal.

It was a less-than-stellar first half for both teams was a serious lack of action and opportunities fortunately for Roma they put away one of the only ones they had as Under gave Roma lead. However overall it was flat and quiet from both teams. To start the second half it didn’t get any better both teams remain quiet with not a lot of chances or opportunities for either. Eventually Edin Dzeko gave Roma a chance to score as he hit a shot from the side of the Box but missed. A few minutes later Roma made their first change of the game as Bruno Peres came off for Alexandro Florenzi. They’re still wasn’t very many chances being taken by either team it continued to be a bit flat. With a little more than a half hour to go Roma had yet another chance as Federico Fazio put his head to an Alex Kolarov cross but missed. A minute later Roma had another chance but Radja Nainggolan missed from Deep. Roma would make their second change as Jonathan Silva came in for Elo. The chances weren’t coming as frequently and as naturally as they normally do but every once in awhile they would be a scoring opportunity. With about 10 minutes to go Federico Fazio missed out on that doubling the lead as his header went wide. A few minutes later Roma made their third and final change as Patrik Schick came on for under. Edin dzeko gave Roma one last chance in the closing but his deep strike missed the target As Time expired. An uneventful performance but under goal enough to secure a big three points for the Romans.

Cengiz Under’s goal proven to be the differtnce as Roma hold off Cagliari

It wasn’t pretty but Roma got the job done. The glarossi pick up a vital points to win their fourth League match in a row sweeping the seaosn series in the process. As the Romans create some separation between them and Lazio as Roma are on the front foot to make the Champions League next season only needing one point over the next two games to confirm their Champions League status. While this loss for Cagliari keeps them in the relegation Zone in a very uncomfortable situation with only two games remaining this result very much could relegate them as they now seem like the favorites to join benevento and Verona on the slide down. It seems more and more likely that they will not make it out. This game turned out to be flat at times before it slightly opened up during the second half. However the important thing is for Roma they pick up an important three points going forward as they play their toughest match of the season next week as they will host likely League champions Juventus. Champions league is in their grasp and despite a less than Stellar performance the Romans were determined in this game to pick up the three points at all costs. A loan strike from their breakout star Under was the difference as their opposition was wasteful. Roma held on for the win an important one at that. Some mix-up in the team took place Roma that did not affect their ability to win a hard-fought results was deserved as they put away their chances. There weren’t too many breakout stars in this game it was a hard-fought and gritty battle but my man of the match for this one goes to Roma’s Turkish Superstar Cengiz Under who continues to prove why he is one of the best youngsters in Italian football. If he maintains his ability for a full season he could get between 20 and 30 goals next year. He has proven to be a capable goalscorer with a very dangerous left foot his speed and pace is a nightmare for any Defender and he played an excellent game despite the narrow score line the defense had great difficulty controlling what he was trying to do. He’s been one of the best players in the entire league since the start of 2018 8 goals and five assists isnt bad especially for a player of his age. Eusebio Di Francesco and Roma Come Away with another Victory as they stay in form they will need to be at their best next week as the defending League champions come to town. A game Di Francesco and his Roma team will be ready for.
