Spartak Stadium is located in the heart of Russia in their capital city Moscow. The stadium has a capacity of just over 45,000 and is he home of Russian Premier League side Spartak Moscow who is considered by many one of the best teams in the country.
Spartak Stadium originally broke ground in October of 2010 however it was originally scheduled to break ground 3 years earlier in 2007. The construction was delayed multiple times for a multitude of reasons it was originally going to be built between 2009 and 2010 but in 2009 the designing of the stadiums architecture still was in processing. The original Stadium design was rejected in 2010 by an agriculture board as they thought the project was two similar and not unique enough. The layout of the stadium was developed by AECOM in partnership with sports Concepts and Sachi designer Dexter Moore and Associates. The money in the financial parts of making the stadium possible was largely funded by club owner Leonid Fedun along with two companies LUKoli & IFD Kapital. On February 19th 2013 it was announced that the new stadium would be named Spartak Stadium or better known as Otkritie Arena. In 2014 in momentum to the Starostin brothers the founders of Spartak Moscow opened near the north side of the stadium a 24.5 M sculpture of the Roman gladiator Spartacus from the club is named was unveiled outside the stadium. The stadium officially opened on the 5th of September 2014 the stadium ultimately ended up costing 14 billion ruble which is approximately 430 million US dollars. The architect of the design and creation of the stadium was BiznesTehProekt, PozhEvroZtoroi. Spartak Moscow played against Red Star Belgrade in the first match played in the stadium. The stadium ended up being a built on the side of the Toshino airport. Spartak Stadium ended up being a part of Russia’s 2018 World Cup bid which is due to start in a few weeks. Spartak Stadium was elected to host four group games as well as a round of 16 match in this year’s World Cup.
Spartak Stadium is a fairly New ground which is yet to have its own history written about this venue the only significant match that this stadium has been apart of up to this date is they were one of the stadium selected to host the 2017 Confederation cup.
