After seeing Roma back up goalkeeper Lukasz Skorupski head to Bologna for a 9 million deal Roma secure a backup goalkeeper so Alisson or for whoever Roma bring in to replace him. They have taken longtime Italian football goalkeeper Antonio Mirante from bologna as he comes in to replace Skorupski as the two goalkeepers switch locations. It will cost Roma 4 million as the Italian football experienced goalkeeper signs a 3-year deal that runs until 2021. Antonio Mirante was a Juventus product that spent time at Crotone Sienna Sampdoria as well as a starter for Parma and Bologna. He becomes Romans fifth signing of the season Monchi was very happy bringing him to the Stadio Olimpico as he adds experience and Leadership to this Roma side. This isn’t a world-class signing but Roma add a player who can come in and be a leader for this young team. Antonio Mirante arrived in Rome to undergo his medical before completing his move to the Capital. Upon his arrival Roma’s experienced goalkeeper who was made over 300 Appearances in the Italian top flight had this to say about his move to Roma. “Becoming a Roma player is a proud moment for me It was something that I really wanted – this is the right moment in my career and I think it will be a great step for me.” Mirante said after being introduced on Friday. I am also sure he will have an important role to play in aiding the development of our younger goalkeepers.” As Monchi spoke in the introductory press conference Friday afternoon. Mirante becomes Roma’s fifth arrival of the summer, after Ante Coric, Ivan Marcano, Bryan Cristante and Justin Kluivert. Antonio Mirante has been around Italian football for a very long time he wasn’t always the best was never considered the greatest but he’s always been there. The goalkeeper actually started his career in Turin playing for a superpower  in Italian football the iconic Juventus. He was never first option in fact his time with the old lady didn’t last very long. He was at Juventus from 2003 to 2007 in what he spent two of those seasons on loan. He was Crotone  number one goalkeeper in 2004 as he spent the season in Serie B making 44 appearances for the team that finished 16th an Italian second flight. He was sent on loan again the next season as he joined Italian football minnows Siena in Serie A. Sienna finished officially  17th 10 points clear of relegation but after the Italian football scandal they moved up two spots finishing and 15th with 39 points. He only made 7 appearances the following season as Juventus got promotion from Serie B after being caught and a referee tampering in the biggest scandal in Italian football the season before Juventus Scandal that took place in 2006. In 2008 he finally left Juventus as he joined Sampdoria. In his time at Juventus he only appeared seven times in the famous white and black shirt. He spent two years that Sampdoria but failed to gain full control of the starting goalkeeping position. He was on the move again as lack of playing time inspired his departure from Sampdoria. In 2009 he joined Parma the place in which where he had the a great deal of success. He was Parma’s starting keeper from 2009 to 2015 making 208 appearances in all competition for Parma. During his time at Parma they were a mid table  sometimes European pushing team. In his six seasons there they finished in the top half of the table five of those years unfortunately during his final year at the club tragedy struck. Parma went bankrupt in 2015 as they slid down the Italian football pyramid until recently having gained promotion this season but at the time the club was falling apart. This forced his move away from Parma as he decided to travel down to Northeast Italy to join bologna. He has spent the last three years as their starting goalkeeper having made 90 appearances in three seasons. His role will significantly change this season but he brings a lot of experience.

Antonio Mirante has made 386 appearances in Serie A and 405 appearances in Italian football over the last 14 seasons. He brings experience he brings leadership and he brings intelligence to this Roma team. Mirante has spent the last nine seasons as a number 1 goalkeeper for his team in all likelihood that will change this coming season. Roma have their hands on one of the best goalkeepers in the world Brazil’s number one Alisson Becker. Even if his proposed move to Real Madrid is completed Roma will go out and get another goalkeeper to replace Alisson in the Roman net. Mirante has been brought here to Rome to be Roma’s backup goalkeeper and I reckon will get occasional starts in the Italian cup and maybe a couple Serie A games. Monchi did not just sign him to be a backup goalkeeper that will be the role that he plays but he has more value then just a backup goalkeeper. He has been around this league for an extremely long time he has gone through experiences and transitions that not many players on this Roma team can relate to. I see him as a role model and mentor and a leader for the whole team but specially for Roma young goalkeepers. He completely understands what he’s been brought here to do. A player like this is essential to every championship team this signing isn’t going to be a factor in the title challenge but I think he brings Great Value to this team as a leader. This team features a lot of very young players. Under is almost 21 Justin kluivert is 19 Lorenzo Pellegrini is 22 Gerson is 21 Patrik Schick is 22 Miko Antonucci is 19 this team is filled with Young promising Talent from every which way you look they may not be goalkeepers but Antonio Mirante could  greatly impact the potential these young players reaching their goals. As I said he has then in Italian football for a very long time and even though he will not play that many games I believe he will be a great leader in the dressing room a player the young guys can lean on when they have issues and problems on the pitch. He is almost 35 years old his impact on the pitch won’t be that much but the impact he can have in the dressing room will be incredible him being will be important as a leader. This was a good move by Monchi on a very cheap deal that will have great impact on these young players this season and the years to come.
