Columbia get past Senegal to claim the top spot in the group. in the group of death between two teams who were fighting for their lives in this tournament. it was Columbia who prevailed beating Senegal buy one goal thanks to Erie Miller off a set-piece to send Columbia Into The Knockout stage of the World Cup. Topping the group with six points Japan will join them in the round of 16 while Senegal and Poland head for the exit a very entertaining group but in the end Columbia was always going to come out as the winners
More outstanding Goalkeeping from Columbia
Going into the World Cup I had felt that Colombia’s goalkeeping was going to be an issue in this competition. This is something that I was completely wrong about despite the fact that David Ospina failed to take control of the Arsenal starting position the season despite the Gunners having atrocious in goal. He had not had regular first-team football on a consistent basis which was my biggest criticism in regards to this Columbia team. In the first game there were signs of concern but In fairness nobody play well in that opening game against Japan due to the red card right out of the gate. Against Poland and today against Senegal David ospina has been excellent he was threatened on a consistent basis today by sadio Mane and Keita as well as some of the better attacking options that Senegal have. The Senegal attack was excellent today and came close to scoring on the multiple occasions but David ospina was super his vision and control was nothing short of excellent. He helped Colombia keep another clean sheet in the Columbia shirt he just looks like a different player this performance in goal had a great deal of importance as Columbia future in the group of death at not been determined large part by his performances in the last two games of the group stage if he continues to play this well they are going to be a team nobody’s going to want to face in The Knockout rounds.
Columbia win the group.
After a poor start to the group stage losing to Japan in the opening game we didn’t really get to see what this Colombia team could do they were out of sorts and couldn’t get the Rhythm. Since then they looked like a team to be reckoned with. They have looked strong creative and opportunistic. This Colombian team after two straight shutouts picking up six points of a possible nine to come out of the group of death and that they won it despite the fact that I had looked like Japan was going to win the group. 4 years ago this Colombian team captivated the World Cup by making the quarterfinals this team had that magic in Brazil. They seem to have a very similar feel to them and I fully expect them to get back into the quarter finals. The link-up play between James Rodriguez Juan Cuadrado and Falcao has been excellent they have also been superb defensively and been excellent in goal. They have proven that what they did for years ago was not a fluke this is still an incredibly strong team and deserves to win the group as they are the best team from top to bottom. They will surely take this confidence into the next round where they will face either England or Belgium no matter who they get out of those two I expect they’ll get past either one and if they get hot who knows what can happen.
Senegal to adds African disappointment at the world cup
The African disappointment In This World Cup has been documented. Despite the fact but Africa had several Nations at this world cup no team from that region were able to advance out of the group stage which hasn’t happened in a very long time. The representatives of this year’s World Cup from Africa were Morocco Egypt,Nigeria and Senegal. Both Nigeria and Senegal had legitimate chances to make it out of the group both teams are very talented with some really good players and it’s been a really big disappointment to see them not get through. In fact it’s quite sad for many many World Cups in a row at least one African team has made it out of the group stage this year it’s really a shame that they couldn’t advance especially given how well Senegal and Nigeria played could have been just some bad luck especially for those two it’s somewhat unfortunate because we want to see every continent possible represented in the knockout rounds instead of European domination and it just didn’t happen this time around I’m confident especially with Nigeria and Senegal that they will put themselves in position to be even stronger next World Cup.
James Rodriguez Injury
Colombian Superstar James Rodriguez started his world cup with a minor injury only playing 20 minutes in the opening game against Japan. He is the engine of the team which is why his health was very concerning to me. He was brilliant against Poland in what seemed was a fully healthy James Rodriguez he was unplayable. Sadly he picked up a knock in this game as his injury concerns are starting to worry again. Hopefully his injury is not too serious and he’s fully fit by the time the round of 16 arrives Columbia should be fine but if he misses the round of 16 it could cause trouble they did manage to beat Senegal without him for most of the match but it won’t be as easy against England or Belgium. He is the engine of this team and how they play a very much feeds off what he does it doesn’t appear to be serious but my hope is that there are very minimal health concerns because when Columbia is on their game there’s good as anyone.
This was the true group of death
Many people considered the group with Mexico and Germany the group of death and it was a very challenging group despite Germany’s elimination and Sweden winning that group I think this group was actually the group of death. Poland was pathetic outside of them it was very unclear who was coming out of the group Japan Colombia and Senegal all played extremely well that wasn’t determined until the last day going into today’s match all three of them were very much in play including Senegal and Japan ending on the same amount of points. This was an extremely competitive group and it’s a bit harsh that one of these teams had to go home Senegal Columbia and Japan all deserve but that’s how it goes it was one of the most competitive and entertaining groups to watch. With surprises such as Japan doing so well while Poland struggle this group is everything it crack up to be and it was a joy to watch.
