A.S Roma’s Projected Finish: 2nd

Champions League: Round of 16/ Quarterfinals

The start are 2018-2019 Serie A campaign a little more then a week away as Roma will kick off their season on August 19th away to Torino at the Grande Torino. After a tremendous and historic campaign last season the Romans will look to improve with a new look roma . Last season Roma lost Mouhamed Salah to Liverpool Antione Rudiger to Chelsea and Luciano Spalletti left for Inter. In came Eusebio Di Francesco a former Roma player and Scudetto winner to take over the reins at Roma. Roma also added 10 signings to strengthen the squad and Roma hired transfer wizard Monchi as sporting director their were a lot of changes last season with the departure of Roma Icon Francesco Totti who retired the season before it was a very different Roma then the one we were accustomed to seeing over the previous decade. Roma were expected to be in rebuild mode but Under Eusebio Di Francesco he took them to a 3rd place finished as well as the most exiting European campaign Roma had experienced since the 84 season. Roma won the group of death in the champions league that featured Chelsea,Atletico Madrid and Qarabag. They followed that up with come from behind wins against Shakhtar Donetsk the historic comeback against Barcelona in which they came back from a 4-1 deficit to beat Barca advancing to the semi finals. They eventually lost to Liverpool in the semis but one thing was certain Di Francesco is the right man for the job after leading this roma team to the verge of glory. He got the best out of some of Roma’s youngsters Lorenzo Pellegrini and Cengiz Under an amazing first season under Di Francesco Roma look to only improve on that this season. Monchi this summer has worked overtime in brining in town notch talent to Roma as he continues to build a super power in Rome. Monchi Brought in 11 transfers in collection of young stars key players and leaders as he signed Ante Coric, Justin Kluivert, Bryan Cristante,Javior Pastore,Robin Olsen,Nicolò Zaniolo, Antonio Mirante ,Iván Marcano,Daniel Fuzato, Davide Santon  and William Bianda. In addition to everything that Roma has brought in over the summer there had also been some departures. Alisson Becker leaving for a world record deal to Liverpool, Radja Nainggolan ending his four-year stay in Rome as Roma received money and two players in a deal send him to Inter, Gregorio Defrel leaving for Sampdoria on loan, Bruno Peres heading to San Paulo on loan as well as a few others. The most impressive thing about how Roma have gone about their business this summer is they have added depth to the squad. They have the team and the leaders throughout the squad to put together a stronger title challenge this season I believe this Roma team will be in the title race from match day one to the last day of the season. Last year they fizzled out of the title race fairly quickly with the team that Roma have and the players they brought in they will challenge Juventus to the very end. I also see another deep European run maybe not back to the semi-final but I think this team is well good enough to get to the quarter-finals at the very least. The players that Monchi has brought in might change the identity and the style of how Roma might play this season but Eusebio Di Francesco has the ability and the intelligence to organize this group of talented players in a way that is the most effective for the team. An amazing debut season for Di Francesco not only did he take Roma to the Champions League semi-final but he has picked up big wins against some of the best teams in Italy. I don’t think Roma have enough to beat Juventus just yet especially with the signing of Cristiano Ronaldo but they have the potential to win multiple titles and we will see some flashes of how good this team can be. Roma hasn’t won silverware since 2008 I fully expect that to change this season I do not think they’re going to take the league I see them winning the Coppa Italia this season to justify the greatness of Edin Dzeko. Edin Dzeko statistically is as good as any Striker that has played for Roma he’s going into his fourth year and he is 32 years old he has been an excellent player for this club and this club and the city owe Edin Dzeko a trophy in the Roma colors. It would be a way to prove his greatness for this club meant something. Roma have lost pieces and important pieces this season over this summer but they have replaced almost all of them. Alisson was an amazing player for Roma this season but for the amount of money that was being offered it was too much to turn down. They replaced him with Robin Olsen the Copenhagen goalkeeper who was a star at the World Cup this summer. With an excellent defense that will be in front of him as well as getting Luca Pellegrini and Rick Karsdorp back from injury he will give the new Roma goalkeeper a security blanket. Roma has one of the best defenses in Italian football and although Alisson was fantastic the Roma defense helped him a lot which is another reason I am not very concerned about Olsen replacing Allison because before Allison was a star Szczęsny  was the starter for Roma and did an excellent job commanding his spot in goal. Radja Nainggolan was a huge part of this team the last four years but his departure actually wasn’t all that bad because of the resources Roma have to replace him. Radja Nainggolan did not fit into the system that Roma ran last season Bryan Cristante who I think is going to be a superstar in this league can fill that void that was left by Nainggolan. He is more attacking minded but has defensive abilities to put him with Pastore in that position they will Run riot in the Roma Midfield. This team was already incredibly strong before the signings that were made over the summer. With the likes of Edin Dzeko Cengiz Under as well as a strong defense and incredibly strong Midfield and a team as deep as anyone in Italy with so many options Off the Bench that they will be able to account for any situation that comes their way. The formation may change for this upcoming season giving the players that have been handed to Di Francesco but for the most part I see him going with the 4-3-3 formation. However he may make some changes and adjustments based on what he will see in the early part of this season. I believe this is a better team then what we saw last season they also got some good deals done in addition to all the signings extending the contract of Alexandro Florenzi who is possibly the League’s most versatile player. We will see the top three stay the same as last year just in a slightly different order. Although Napoli did get a better manager they have lost some pieces and haven’t got that much in the transfer market because of this I think Roma are just a little bit better. Roma to get a second in the league to finish with 88 points who I think will narrowly miss out on the league title to Juventus. I like what Roma is building with all the young talent Roma currently have not to mention this will be year 2 for Di Francesco I see him getting even better with this team. Coming off a really bad season from Patrik Schick will prove he was worth the price tag this season Cengiz Under will slowly become of the best in the league Dzeko will be great but this will slowly become his team. The gap between Juventus and roma has been decreasing over the last 12 months even though they signed Cristiano Ronaldo Roma are not that far away from winning the league title I believe this season Juventus will win it but next season the balance in power will change.
