After a dramatic match day one of the season Roma followed that up with an incredibly dramatic second game. After a horrendous first half Roma erased a three-to-one deficit to come back to earn a hard-earned point against a very vibrant and explosive Atalanta team. As they are set to arrive and Milan today as they prepare for a Friday Night Football matchup at the San Siro against AC Milan. AC Milan kicked off their season on Saturday night doing the opposite all what Roman did on Monday as AC Milan blew a 2-0 lead to eventually fell 3-2 to Napoli. Roma and AC Milan split their two meetings last season with both side beating each other away from home. Roma will come into this game as a favorite and after an emotional come back the Romans will be in a confident mood. Roma are unbeaten and 28 of their last 29 games away from home as well as having an unbeaten run at the San Siro. This will be a very exciting and very competitive match between two of Italy’s most historical teams. In what should be an important result for whoever comes out on top it will be under the lights on Friday Night Football as the eyes of the world will be watching these two teams Clash in what is expected to be a booming and loud San Siro.
Roma’s away form is well-documented and should be a positive going into this match. This team knows how to play in hostile territory but I believe the away support could be huge in this match in Milan. In Roma’s 3-3 draw with Atlanta they just played the worst half of football anyone has played this season as harsh as that may sound that is a perfect explanation. In the second half they fought back and looked incredibly strong but in the first half it was awful. I bring this up because in the second half on Monday there was a formation change and some major adjustments where made. I still fully expect Eusebio di Francesco team to operate out of their usual 4-3-3 formation. However I see a major shake-up with how they will line up against Milan. I don’t think it’s fair to judge players on one bad performance but because of how bad Roma were I think some changes must be made. I believe the Midfield should be De Rossi Javier Pastore and Steven Nzonzi. Nzonzi changed the game when he came on as a sub I think Roma have to start him now because they want to avoid trouble if possible. In the Roma attack I don’t think they’re ready to throw kluivert in as a starter so I would opt for the same as last week but switch out Pellegrini for Patrik Schick. I think you have to let Schick start in the attack to see how he can mesh with a Dzeko and under but kluivert will be potentially coming off the bench and I believe he should start at some point this season but I don’t think it’s the time yet. I don’t think they should be any real vast changes to the back however Alexandro Florenzi pick up a minor injuries but will only really miss one game. With this change I expect Rick Karsdorp to make his first start of the Season as he fills in for Florenzi. I think it’s important for Roma to have the tools to attack and control the Midfield winning that battle is extremely important they certainly have the place to do it. Roma’s key player in this game for me will be Steven Nzonzi we saw the impact he had when he came on Monday night if he can play like that for a full 90 minutes Roma will have lots of opportunities to break down Milan to get lot of opportunities the score. They’ve done well to San Siro I see that continuing especially if chances are made mistakes must be fixed but if they’re able to do so they should have a great chance to win this game.
AC Milan made a lot of moves over the summer to push them higher off the table this season. However much like their neighbors Milan they didn’t get off to a great start. Things started really well against a very strong Napoli as they found themselves 2-0 up on Naples. Things were going as well as they possibly could but the entire thing broke down. Zielinski single-handedly broke down the Milan defense and in a blink of an eye they had equalized. Then eventually Dries Mertens score of the winner as Milan blew a two-goal lead. Milan will look to rebound against Roma but they have not fared well against them at the San Siro. Luckily for them Caldera is set to make his debut which could tighten up the defense that was so exposed against Napoli. Milan coach Gattuso had said he intends to make some tactical changes ahead of the match. It has been confirmed at summer signing Bakayoko will make his debut as he will start the match. He could have a few other changes up his sleeve but it’s unaware what they will be. He has to Quality Strikers in Gonzalo Higuain and Cutrone the question remains going to this match is whether he can start them together. Unless you can do that it is very possible that one will miss out on starting the match. Depending on what decisions he makes will determine how Roma and Milan will dictate that. The problem with Milan is Gonzalo Higuain as a striker who works extremely hard for the team and sometimes demands service. Against Napoli he was unable to get good service. His Supply was very limited the Wingers from Milan need to do a better job of getting him the ball in danger positions I think cannot open him up in the attack Milan will become significantly less dangerous. The key player from Milan Giuliani Donnarumma he has struggled against Roma in the past. He must be at his very best because Roma will make light work of them if he is not up to standards. How we plays in goal will be extremely important because if he has another bad game he could lose his job or make things easier for Roma then necessary.
The story of this game I believe partly will be confidence. Roma made a huge comeback on Monday the confidence they will have is sky high even an extra motivation than usual with the way they battled on Monday. On the other hand AC Milan threw away a two-goal lead against Napoli I think Milan despite being home will be a little unsure of how they can Fair against a team like Roma. To lose a game in the way they did must have broken them a little bit which is going to be very concerning going into this match. From my perspective I think Gattuso will panic and make too many rash decisions with his team he may overthink some of the decisions he makes. With Di Francesco it’s very clear what he needs to do which is why I think he has the advantage any tactical battle. Roma’s away form and their success at the stadium may not be vastly important what is something that Roma are comfortable with and this environment they have done very well over the last three seasons. Milan has the job of protecting their home which can be very difficult at times especially having the pressure of not dropping their second consecutive game. From a tactical standpoint Roma have the better tactician and have the better Squad. I don’t underestimate this Milan Squad in anyway because I know they have quality but in order for them to carve into it Gonzalo Higuain need service and with a brand new team sometimes it takes a while to get on the same page as we’ve seen with Ronaldo Juventus. The question remains if they can get it together in such a short time and I don’t think they can even if he is on the same page Roma have the better team. Milan’s goal should be to get back in the Champions League Roma’s it should be to challenge the league. There are levels in quality between these two and Roma has the advantage. It should be a very close game but I think Roma have a slight Advantage. Despite the fact Florenzi is out with an injury they still have a lot of depth and are top-heavy. With Kluivert available to come off the bench it makes them extremely dangerous. It may even come down to the striker battle Edin Dzeko vs Gonzalo Higuain. Edin Dzeko has been with Roma for three years he is comfortable with his surroundings and because of that Roma will be the favorites. AC Milan can beat Roma it is something that is very possible I wouldn’t be shocked if it happened but based on what we know about these two teams with Roma’s depth they will have an easier time correcting mistakes and parts of the game that are being exposed. With Steven Nzonzi and Javier Pastore in the Midfield the Midfield Dzeko upfront and a very talented and fast Under and kluivert defensively have all the weapons to break down the Milan defense where Milan is going to be too reliant on Gonzalo Higuain to get service AC Milan will make it difficult on but the Romans should pull out a narrow victory at the San Siro given their away form that’s hard to bet against them.
