Roma vs Empoli Match day 7 Preview #356

Following Roma’s big Champions League win at the stadio olimpico against Plzen. Roma have won three successive games. On Tuesday night we saw Roma carve open the Czech Republic champions with a thumping 5-0 victory. In which history was made multiple times as Edin Dzeko broke and Justin Kluivert set records respectively. Roma have finally found their form this season as they look to continue their winning run this week as they head on the road to newly-promoted Empoli. The relegation candidates found themselves in 18th place as their season has not got off to the best start. Roma finally have some confidence and momentum as they go into this game and great mood after edin dzeko started on Tuesday. It has been three seasons since these two teams have played dating back to the 2015/2016 league campaign in which Roma won the season series historically speaking Roma have dominated this fixture and I suspect we could be in for another drubbing. Roma must take things one at a time as they try to position themselves in the top 6 another win would do that. Under-fire manager DiFrancesco job is safe now but he needs to follow up the Champions League performance with another win in the league. Meanwhile for Empoli any points at all would be huge but based on what we have seen from Roma in the last 3 weeks it seems unlikely. I suspect Roma will coast home with an easy victory.

A.S Roma

Roma saw the very best from their team on Tuesday night as Lorenzo Pellegrini and Edin Dzeko found themselves among my Champions League players of the week. I honestly think there was no reason to change anything from Tuesday night the lineup Roma had was perfect and they played it to Absolute peak. They were playing a less-than-stellar team but what we saw from the starting XI was absolutely superb. I’m not sure whether or not Daniele de Rossi or Javier Pastore has been cleared to play but even if they are I would keep the line up exactly the same. An exception will be made as EDF has confirmed Roma Youth product Luca Pellegrini will start. The defensive Midfield and the attack was perfect with a mix of young Talent and an some experienced players. In the defensive midfielder we saw Steven nzonzi and Bryan Cristante they did a sensational job. Bryan Cristante best game for Roma as he completed nearly 90% of his passes playing at exceptionally high level. Then in the attacking Midfield we saw what I would describe as any perfect Trio with Justin Kluivert Lorenzo Pellegrini and Cengiz Under. The fans have been waiting for Under and Kluivert to start together their pace intelligence and ability coexist really well on both wings and I certainly hope we see more of them together this season. They were  joined in the attacking Midfield with Lorenzo Pellegrini who is thriving under his new role in the central Midfield spot he had more Key passes than any player in Europe this week. He’s going to inflict impact in the attack especially finding the teammates for open passes. He’s been playing like an absolute animal over the last few weeks and I see that continuing against a team that will be unable to deal with what Lorenzo Pellegrini can do. Not to forget the team is led by Edin Dzeko. Who scored his first champion league  hat-trick  and was the first Roma player ever to do so on Tuesday. His three goals took him to 77 goals for Roma the 10th most in history. He is on a record watch this week. Two goals this week would take him to 9th all time which would put him level with Dino DaCosta at 79 goals. This lineup is perfect in the 4-2-3-1 formation it worked so well this week I’m not sure if we’re actually going to see the exact same but certainly EDF should consider it given how the team had played under the lights on Tuesday.  Edin Dzeko is going to be the key player in this match if he is given service he has all the capabilities to put more than one goal in the back of the net this week against a team that is struggling. Given the fact he is on the record watch it will give him extra motivation

Empoli on the other end have a lot of issues in this game. This is a newly-promoted team without a big star that can take them up a notch Unfortunately they are not a player like  Parma who have gervinho an unbelievable player. Empoli don’t have a impact player which is going to be a problem against a Roma team that has finally found its feet and confidence in the league. This team was lacking confidence early in the season but now that Roma have momentum it’s going to make things even more difficult for this newly-promoted side who has only won one game out of a possible 7. Like I said in the past their best approach is defensive football. They’re not going to be able to break on Roma it’s just not going to happen they don’t have the tools or the players to do so. stacking the box with defenders seems to be their best option. If they do exceptionally well maybe they can hold off the inevitable until late. But I don’t think there’s a way in which they can completely stop Roma’s attack but if they defend to an unreal level they can at least try. The key player for Empoli is Pietro Terracciano if he plays out of his mind then possibly you can make this game a lot closer than it looks on paper.

Bottom line

The fact of the matter is there are no secrets that Roma finally find themselves of confidence and momentum this season. After a rough starts they seem to be firing on all cylinders again it may have ended their chances at the scudetto but they are back to being a team that should be feared especially by some of these smaller teams. I mean sure Empoli can look at this game saying that Roma lost to Bologna and Drew with Verona but that’s really the only thing that can clang on to. A defensive setup will probably greatly benefit Empoli but the fact of the matter is I feel like it won’t even matter. With the lineup Roma can potentially put out they’re going to have a nightmare dealing with the likes of Lorenzo Pellegrini and the speed of Kluivert and Under not to mention the experience of Steven nzonzi. The most important thing is this Edin Dzeko isn’t lacking goals anymore on Tuesday he got three if Edin Dzeko is inform this match could get ugly and fast. Empoli without any stars at any positions it gives them little to no chance to win . For Roma to blow this they would have to beat themselves. Given them the way they are playing and how they performed since the change in formation. Empoli can make this game closer than it should be but as far as trying to get a point out of it I find it almost impossible for that to happen. This Roma team has finally clicked together this is a really new team and that explains kind of how the team played early in the season it seems like many of them are now on the same page as full strength with all the weapons they have not only in the starting 11 but on the bench as well there’s so many ways Roma can statistically and strategically break you down. Lorenzo Pellegrini in the Midfield can create so many chances for the Roma speedsters kluivert and under not to mention the service they can give to Edin Dzeko. If Edin Dzeko was given service and good areas he is going to have a field day against a lowly defense. Given his size and it’s going to be a problem. They also can hold the Midfield in their advantage with Steven nzonzi and Bryan Cristante who had proven this week so they are capable of controlling the game. The game will start and Roma will control it from the beginning to the end Empoli doesn’t have the tools or weapons that can potentially counter and Roma will attack them. They will be attacked on almost consistent basis and they don’t have the players to deal with it that is why Roma shouldn’t glide to an easy victory a match that could get out of hand if they let it. We should see another big win from Roma as momentum and confidence shall continue.
