A Statement for Roma as El Shaarawy Leads Sampdoria thrashing #387

Score: A.S Roma 4 Sampdoria 1FT

Following a 2-1 win in Russia in Roma’s Champions League victory over cska Moscow they returned home after a three-game road trip to host Sampdoria. In their two meetings last season Sampdoria won the season series with a win and a draw against the Romans. In fact it has been two seasons since Roma has won a season series against Sampdoria Roma are looking to change that this season. For whatever reason Sampdoria shows up and delivers when they’re playing Roma. Roma and Sampdoria coming into this game we’re just a few Point apart from each other. Both teams have lacked consistency as Roma got off to a rough start this campaign and Sampdoria has seemingly cooled off as they are struggling with form. A massive match for both teams that wish to make up ground in the league table and possible push for Europe. A win for Roma would put the side from the internal City back into the top 6 in contention for top 4. It turned out to be a statement game for Roma as Roma delivered a performance that we have yet to receive this season on a consistent basis. Some interesting lineup changes ended up working to perfection Juan Jesus gave Roma the early lead in the first half off a Bryan Cristante assist. The Romans continues to dominate the run a play with many chances in the first half. It was only a 1-0 lead after the first half but the game blew open with a goal scoring Clinic from Roma. Patrik Schick and Stephen El Shaarawy increased Roma’s lead to a 3-0 advantage. Sampdoria eventually got a goal back with Gregorie Defrel but it was too little too late as Roma continued to dominate the match and added a another goal of Stephan El Shaarawy with a two-goal performance from the Italian. Roma go on to win 4-1 as they make a serious statement that this Roma team is capable of much more than what they have been doing this season a huge emphatic win against a really strong side as the Stadio Olimpico gets treated to three points from Roma. Roma head into the international break with confidence and momentum as they pull off an impressive Victory to kick-start their campaign as they are now within Striking Distance on the top 4 thanks to Lazio’s draw and AC Milan’s loss. It is all smiles Rome.

DiFrancesco made some slight adjustments to his usual 4-2-3-1 formation after Champions League Triumph in Russia. In goal between the sticks would be a Roma’s number one Swedish goalkeeper Robin Olsen. Romans backline would remain the same as Wednesday night. As it would consist of at left-back would be Alex Kolarov beside him would be the center back partnership of Juan Jesus and Kostas Manolas as well as seeing Alexandro Florenzi returning to right back after playing in the attacking Midfield on Wednesday. Di Franesco would keep the same pair in the defensive Midfield with Bryan Cristante playing alongside Steven Nzonzi as Danielle De Rossi continues to miss time due to injury he suffered in Naples. Roma would make a slight change in they’re attacking Midfield. In central Midfield would be Lorenzo Pellegrini who has a really come into his own this season. On the left wing would be Stephan El Shaarawy returning to the starting lineup. Then on right-wing would be 19 year old Justin kluivert who had a Breakout game in the Champions League winning man of the match against Cska Moscow. Then finally up  as the main Striker coming in for Edin Dzeko would be Patrik Schick getting his first start of the season. We should see another strong bench with Edin Dzeko Cengiz Under and others available.

After preparations and predictions the match was about to get underway in Rome. Rome were coming off a three-week road trip as they returned to their home ground. It would be a hugely important match between two teams who were looking for a big result to kick on their season. As Roma hosted Sampdoria welcoming them to the Stadio Olimpico on a Sunday afternoon in Italy’s capital. As you would expect Roma controlled possession and looked good on the ball with and with little more efficiency however Sampdoria did have a few chances in the early parts of the game. Gaston Ramirez saw his header go wide in the opening minutes of the game. It was followed by another header from Ronaldo Viera but Again a poor finish as a robin Olson wasn’t challenged. Despite the tactical change Roma looked pretty good in the opening minutes they were just waiting for the right opportunity to attack. They controlled possession and spread the ball out to create chances. It was a little dry over the first 15 minutes of the match but eventually the came to life. Bryan Cristante gave Roma the first chance of the game as he attempted a strike from distance but was saved by the goalkeeper. Once Roma put themselves into the match they wasted no time taking advantage and at the first legitimate opportunity and they delivered. In the 19th minute Coming off a corner Bryan Cristante connected on the header before Juan Jesus got a late touch on the header putting it into the back of the net to give Roma the 1-0 lead. It would be the first goal Juan Jesus has ever scored for the clubs. A little bit harsh on Bryan Cristante as the ball was going into the back of the net regardless. A few minutes later Alex Kolarov shot from Deep as Roma continued to apply the pressure. To be honest there was not a lot of attempts in that first half but Roma came Incredibly close to doubling the lead through Justin kluivert. El Shaarawy released Justin kluivert into the box as the young 19 year old made his move into a dangerous area nearly putting it into the back of the net but his shot collided with the far post denying a monumentis opportunities for Roma to double their advantage. There really wasn’t much else to take from an uneventful first half as Roma led 1-0 after 45 minutes thanks to a goal from Juan Jesus.

Roma open up the game Through Bryan Cristante and Juan Jueus

A solid first-half from Roma as they find a way to push in front in a important match in front of their home fans. In the second half momentum was about to shift at least it looked like it yet another controversial penalty decision was called against Roma. However unlike the match in Florence last week the VAR was consulted. It was abundantly clear that Kostas Manolas did not touch Gaston Ramirez as it was a clear dive in the hopes of getting a penalty. Luckily the VAR made the right decision this time around as the penalty was cancelled. The momentum shifted even further in Roma’s favor and it took them only minutes to take advantage of it. In the 59th minute Roma struck again with Incredible team chemistry from the hosts. Stephan El Shaarawy who had been a Dynamo all day found a perfect pass to Alex Kolarov who then found Patrik Schick who put his laces through a pass into the back of the net to get Roma the 2-0 lead. An incredible moment for the young  Czech Republic star as he has not delivered since his arrival at the club and you can certainly see the enjoyment on his face when he celebrated. He was given an opportunity to come in for Edin Dzeko and he certainly delivered for his team showing he still has value in this team.

Patrik Schick scores his first of the season as he looked all the part.

Hopefully he will be able to have Redemption at this club because oh boy is he talented. The momentum was very much in Roma’s favor and within a few minutes there was a yet another controversial decision as a VAR was consulted again. The original decision by the referee was a penalty as of the ball allegedly touched the hand of a Sampdoria Defender. It was ultimately wiped off as of the score remained the same. A few moments later Roma were in a dangerous area again as Lorenzo Pellegrini connected with Stephen nzonzi on the corner his six-foot-five frame got under the ball but just slightly missed. Roma would make their first change of the game as Edin Dzeko was brought in for Patrik Schick who had an encouraging performance. Following a Bryan Cristante strike from be Roma broke through again. In the 70th minute Lorenzo Pellegrini took a brilliant two touches before sending Alex Kolarov on a Counterattack with Stephan El Shaarawy beyond a perfect pass. Kolarov sent a through ball into the box finding El Shaarawy who ran incredibly fast at the keeper causing him to make a mistake. El Shaarawy had the ball intercepted but fell back to his feet with the goal mostly open El Shaarawy turned before hitting a screamer into the top corner a absolute world-class goal from Stephan El Shaarawy to make it 3-0 having to hit the ball at such a difficult angle and being able to curl it in to the goal was absolutely Sensational one of the best goals we have seen at this season. It wasn’t just that it was having the presence of mind to turn and shoot rather than looking for a pass was absolutely brilliant. The game was becoming closer and closer to conclusions but Roma were not done as they continued to attack the goal they were wiping the floor with Sampdoria. Justin Kluivert found Edin Dzeko on the cross but the Bosnians header went wide. Roma’s went to the bench to make their final changes of the afternoon. Lorenzo Pellegrini would come out for Nicolo Zaniolo and Cengiz Under enter the game for Justin kluivert. Shortly after the changes were made Edin Dzeko saw it another shot from Deep misfire. Sampdoria had a few chances very deep in the game then in the 89th minute they finally broke through to give them some resolution for the game. Gregiore Defrel scored from the six-yard box against his former team to make it 3-1. Out of respect for his former club the striker decided not to celebrate the goal. It was a short yet brief a moment of positivity for Sampdoria as Roma hit back immediately. In the final minute of stoppage time in the 93rd minutes the El Shaarawy show continued. While on the break Edin Dzeko saw his shot saved by the keeper before the Winger put it into the back of the net to make it 4-1. It would be El Shaarawy team leading fifth League goal of the season as the Italian continues to perform. The final whistle would blow as Roma come away as 4-1 winners at the Stadio Olimpico. As the fans in the stadium where the elated with excitement with a truly dominating performance from the Romans. Going into the international break in the best possible way picking apart a very strong team as easily as they did is something to be positive about. Finally the fans at the Olimpico  got to see the Roma we have been waiting for all season.

It was the El Shaarawy show at the Olimpico on Saturday Afternoon

Roma get a huge wins in front of their home fans at the Stadio Olimpico. This could turn into a statement game for Roma this Roma team has lacked consistency throughout the campaign so far this season. An emphatic bone-crushing win against a very strong Sampdoria side could be the game to push them on for the rest of the season. Roma ended up a carving open Sampdoria early and often in there 4-1 victory at home. Despite being in sensational form in the Champions League it is just not carried over into League play but tonight Roma displayed all the quality we thought they had at the beginning of the season. I think this is a huge win that could change their outlook for the rest of the season. Roma are now in striking distance of the top four as they continue on their mission to qualify for the Champions League yet again. Roma only found themselves 1-0 up through Juan Jesus in the first half however in the second half it was an onslaught of complete control and domination from Roma. Roma opened up a three-goal second half to brush aside Sampdoria quite easily without much issue. The entire team performed collectively together as it always seemed like Roma was going to win this game this was the performance they needed going into an international break they have that confidence and momentum now at least it appears that way after a Sensational performance from DiFrancesco side. He made some risky tactical moves prior to the match but it appears that the risks were worth taking. He benched Dzeko in favor of Patrik Schick a player who has yet to make a real impact in his time in Rome. Believe it or not he ends up scoring it had only seemed not too long ago that his time in Roma could have come to an end given the status of his position on the team. He responded and took advantage of his opportunity as he scored Roma’s second goal second goal. However this match was about Stephan El Shaarawy the winger had a incredibly dominant performance as he starred in the route. He put in a star driven performance for a player who has been the most consistent in the League this season. He scored Roma’s final two goals to turn the game on its head. Which included one of the best goals I have seen this season as he outsmarts the goalkeeper and curls a strike into the back of the net on a difficult angle it was an absolutely world-class strike. It wasn’t just the goals he has scored it was his overall performance he got his teammates involved into good positions and as always his movement without the ball was absolutely Sensational. Without a doubt was he man of the match for Roma it was a dominant performance from El Shaarawy. He now has put himself in the top 10 scorers in the League this season he is Roma’s leading scorer in Serie A he is just been so consistent every time he starts he ends up putting in an excellent performance. Another player that yet again showed some incredible ability was Justin kluivert after his heroics in Russia the 19 year old followed it up with another unbelievable performance going forward. He was Unreal using his speed and athleticism he made opportunities for himself and his teammates. He got another start and delivered on the day I think he is earned himself another couple starts in the next few weeks he has been a game changer a truly special player Roma have on their hands. An excellent performance from top to bottom as Roma Coast at home. Thanks to Lazio’s draw with Sassuolo and Milan losing to Juventus Roma are narrowing in on the top 4 and have all the ability to pounce on the opportunity. Roma need to take all the positives from this match against a team that is very strong Sampdoria beat Napoli 5-0 this season and finished in the top 10 of the last two seasons Roma have even typically struggled with Sampdoria this is a huge win for Roma that could change the outlook on how their season has gone in a more positive direction this could be a big momentum shift as Roma can become challengers again. Roma were presented with a challenge and they lived up to it as Roma put that Sampdoria to sleep.
