Roma had been awaiting this matchup as the number three seed in the competition in what was knockout football in the round of 16 in the Coppa Italia in Rome. Roma were coming off three wins in their last four games before the break and only desire to continue their winning streak. Virtus Entella had gone on some run in this competition the Serie C side made it all the way to the round of 16 after beating Genoa on penalties in the previous round even though this has been such an amazing journey for a team in the 3rd division of Italian football Roma ultimately would be too much to handle. Patrik Schick gave Roma the lead and the opening 20 seconds of the game as his flick found the back of the net give Roma the 1-0 lead. Roma had a few opportunities in the first half they had control but in the first half Virtus Entella put together some chances even though Roma dominated the match the clear underdogs provided a little spark in the first half as it remained relatively even. In the second half Roma completely dominated the Run of play as Virtus Entella found a great difficulty controlling the Italian heavyweights. Patrik Schick added another goal to his tally making 3-0. Roma had multiple chance to score and if it wasn’t for the great goalkeeping abilities Roma could have scored so many more goals. Javier Pastore added a forth to make it 4-0 Roma continued to rip through the defense as the superiority in the match became quite clear. Roma runs wild securing a 4-0 win as well as winning their third consecutive match. Virtus Entella’s historical run comes to an end as Roma advances to the quarterfinals where they will meet Florentina at the stadio olimpico at the end of the month. This is a trophy that Roma truly craves it may be their only chance at lifting silverware for the first time since 2008 this team has the desire and ambition go all the way to the final and lift the trophy this was a great start but it only gets more difficult from here.

Roma prepare to play their first match since the winter break in the Coppa Italia. Eusebio Di Francesco would retain his typical formation at least the one we have seen over the last several weeks. Roma shoot out of the 4-2-3-1 formation ahead of tonight’s game. In goal would be Roma’s Swedish Fish Robin Olsen. In Romans backline we would see a bit of a mix-up to what we have seen this season. At left back as always would be Alex Kolarov beside him would be the centre-back partnership of Juan Jesus and Federico Fazio given the injury to Kostas Manolas. Then right back coming in for Alexandro Florenzi who has been given rest would be Rick Karsdorp a player who has played a very limited minutes this season. In Romans defensive Midfield they would have to deal with the injury to Steven Nzonzi. Filling in for the Frenchman would be Lorenzo Pellegrini who drops back having played in Roma’s defensive midfield last season. He would be paired with the in-form emerging star Bryan Cristante. We would see a different attacking Midfield for Roma in the central position would be Javier Pastore making his first start since his injury in the derby against Lazio. On Roma’s left-wing would be Romans Turkish star Cengiz Under on the right wing getting another start this season would be Roma’s teen sensation Justin Kluivert after Perotti who was expected to start hurt himself in the warm up . Then up front as Roma’s main Striker would be Patrik Schick who has been filling in for Edin Dzeko who has been out due to injury concerns. Roma have an absolutely loaded bench today with the likes of Nicolo Zaniolo,Edin Dzeko & Alexandro Florenzi.

After a two-week absence football has returned in Italy. In this much important Coppa Italia round of 16 matchup. The wait has been a long enough after predictions and preparation for the upcoming match we were just about to get underway in Rome on a Monday night. The winner would face Florentina in the quarterfinals it would be the Italian heavyweight against the third division Cinderella. Roma could not have gotten off to a better start. In Roma’s opening possession Cengiz Under drove the ball all the way to the wings before finding Patrick Schick with a fantastic pass. Patrick Schick would score a backheel goal finding the back of the net in the game’s opening 20 seconds to give Roma the 1-0 lead. It would be Patrik Schick third goal of the season. About 10 minutes later Roma Defender Juan Jesus picked up an injury forcing DiFrancesco to make his first change of the evening as Ivan Marcano the little use centre-back would come in. Roma would have control of the match but there weren’t a lot of chances flowing as we might expect in a game like this. Bryan Cristante misfired from the side of the box with a lot of ball movement from in close. Virtus Entella got themselves in great position on a free kick. However a terrific double save from Robin Olsen denied the heavy underdogs an equalizer. Just a little bit later Roma had another opportunity coming off a corner kick Rick Karsdorp struck a ball from deep after the ball was swung out. The goalkeeper was able to make the save despite the Valiant effort. Just a minute later Patrik Schick struck from the center of the box misfired on the finishing touch. It became some possession football as the chances weren’t coming all that freely. However the half-hour Mark Cengiz Under struck from deep as he failed to reach the target. I do not mind that shot though because we have seen him score from those types of distances. Chances continued as we got to near the end of first half. Even though Roma had the lead they were not putting in a very convincing performance. Roma came close again with Under cross reaching Kolarov but his shot was blocked by the defense. Just a minute Roma had another chance to double it when Kolarov connected with Patrik Schick on a header it came very close but the score remained unchanged. In 45th minutes Roma finally broke through for a second time. Coming off a set piece Patrik Schick delivered a backheel pass into Ivan Marcano the goalkeeper did his best to try to push it out but it ended up in the back of the net to give Roma the 2-0 lead as the first half came to a close.

Patrik Schick and Ivan Marcano push the Giallorossi in front

Despite the two-goal lead Roma were not at their best in the opening 45 minutes they found themselves in front through Patrik Schick and Ivan Marcano but really weren’t playing at their very best. Despite that Roma had already done enough to qualify for the quarter-finals however early in the second half it was clear they weren’t quite done. In the 46 minute Roma found themselves on the counter-attack as Lorenzo Pellegrini was facilitating the break. Pellegrini hit a through ball into Justin Kluivert who was having a terrific day. Kluivert orchestrated a cut move as he found Patrik Schick in what was a terrific run and pass. Schick who was just outside the box placed the ball into the bottom corner to give Roma the 3-0 lead. It would be Patrik Schick second goal of the day as he barely put a foot wrong Roma got to see a taste of what they originally paid for. At this point it was done and dusted dead and buried they were all but through to the last 8. The first half was a little bit more balanced in the second half it was utter Domination by Roma. They came forward Fast and Furious the counter-attack really come to their advantage with the speed they had on the outside. A few minutes later Javier Pastore saw his shot from in close saved from close as Roma continue to try to pile on. Just a few minutes later Patrik Schick nearly had his hat-trick as he struck from very close range the goalkeeper was able to manage. They have not played very well this evening but the goalkeeper came to play despite the score line. Less than a minute later on the counter-attack Cengiz Under found Justin Kluivert with a terrific pass. Roma’s teen sensation struck from deep but once again the goalkeeper made the play he needed to. A trio of Roma chances only continued their dominance as Cengiz Under shot from Deep was saved. It only swallowed by back-to-back saves on Schick who was looking for his hat trick. The game and continue to carry on as Roma continue to dominate. The 74th minute Roma struck once again coming on another counter-attack Justin Kluivert delivered a Pitch Perfect pass into Javier Pastore as the argentines shot from found the back of the net to give a Roma the 4-0 lead. Roma would make their second chance of the game as former Virtus Entella youth product Nicolo Zaniolo entered the match for Cengiz who had done a lot of work for the team got a standing ovation from the Roma supporters. Also Nicolo Zaniolo received a great reception from the away support. In addition to that Roma made at our final substitution of the game with 8 minutes to go. Aliseo Ricciardi made his Roma debut as a 17 year old came in for Lorenzo Pellegrini. With about 5 minutes ago Justin Kluivert and Nicolo Zaniolo had their chances saved by the goalkeeper. Virtus Entella tried to provide a spark late in the match but Robin Olsen was Superior making some key saves in the late moments of this game. Romans finely-tuned machine was just too much as their Cinderella Journey get stopped in his tracks with Roma holding on to win 4-0 advancing it to the quarterfinals of the Coppa Italia as a Florentina will be waiting. In addition to that it would it was Roma’s third win in the last four games. Injury issues and inconsistencies may still be a problem but this team is picking up steam as Roma starts 2019 the right way.

Javier Pastore puts the nail in the coffin in the second half as Roma cruise.

Roma secure a place in the quarter-finals with their third straight win their fourth win in the last 5 games. The Coppa Italia from a historical perspectives has it been largely dominated by Roma before the rise of Juventus over the last few seasons. Roma has at least made the final a record 17 times winning this competition on 9 different occasions. It has been a while since Roma have won this competition and Roma realize that this may be the only chance at a trophy this season. Roma got off to a hot start In the round of 16 against Serie C  Cinderella story Virtus Entella. Roma took the lead through Patrik Schick and never looks back. Despite scoring two goals in the first half Roma took a while to really assert themselves in the match. In the second half Roma completely dominated and had a multitude of chances. Roma did not play their strongest lineup getting the opportunity to some players that typically don’t start regularly. Rick karsdorp and Ivan Marcano both we’re able to play in tonight’s match and make a real contribution. Ivan Marcano eventually even scored Roma’s second goal. Roma may have played a weak opponent but none the less they took advantage of opportunities that came their way. A incredibly disciplined a mistake-free match from Roma. In the second half they just blew up the Midfield and attack played with such confidence and looked absolutely antagonizing on the counter-attack. A game like this gave Roma the opportunity to attempt a different strategy tactically. Roma got forward really frequently and with the speed and Pace they had on the outside with the likes of  Under and Kluivert made them incredibly tough. Despite a first-half that despite leading seemed balance in the second half they just ran through them. Patrik Schick played his best game in the red of Rome there was a glimpse the sampdoria Patrik Schick that Roma initially paid for. He barely put a foot wrong the entire game put in a sensational man-of-the-match performance with two goals and a sensational assist. Roma played a complete game of football this team seems only continue to perform at the highest level over the last month you’re really starting to see what this team can become this season. This Roma team is certainly Capable of a top-four finish despite having not played together in two weeks everyone seemed to be on the same page. Cengiz was a machine taking his runs down the flank creating a lot of opportunities for his teammates a nearly complete performance from the Turkish star. He has really progressed this season as a passer this season. I also thought that Justin kluivert was unbelievable getting an assist is always nice but the way he performed especially without the ball I thought was especially encouraging. Even Javier Pastore found the back of the net for the first time since his injury I don’t think he will maintain a position as a starter but certainly there’s a lot of positives to take from his performance. I can go on and on about all the players really showed up for the match and displayed what this team is capable of once this team gets fully fit they’re going to be incredibly dangerous this is finally a team with confidence and momentum going into the next few weeks. Roma will play Florentina in the quarterfinals at the stadio olimpico at the end of the month. Roma have a pathway into the semi-finals if they do their job they are certainly have a real shot to win the Coppa Italia this season.
