Following Roma’s seeing their Champions League hopes to die in their 4-1 loss to Napoli in the derby Del Sol Roma prepare to fight their way back in a European place. Roma will play host to Florentina on a Wednesday night at the Stadio Olimpico. This would be the third meeting between the two teams. The viola has an opportunity to sweep Roma of the season series. They drew 1-1 in their first meeting and pulverized Roma 7-1 in the Coppa Italia Quarterfinals. Florentina has a very good chance of completing the season sweep of a Roma team that seems to be an utter disaster. However, Florentina has been an equally bad form over the last month as this match has become between two teams who have completely let themselves down the season. Teams that have undesirable things in common such as the inconsistencies from both sides. I don’t think there is a clear favorite even though Roma is home at the Stadio Olimpico it shouldn’t play too much into it. The question will come on Wednesday night which one of these teams will find their footing or could we see an underwhelming display from both what will the response be we will find all that out and more once when Florentina makes a trip to the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday night.

Claudio Ranieri has adjusted his formations far too often so far since being in charge he needs to go back to what the team is used to play in. I suspect Roma will return to the 4-2-3-1 formation. Cengiz Under and Lorenzo Pellegrini have returned to the team and it should be available for this match. Claudio Ranieri must select them or this thing is going to get even worse. Defensively Roma should be very similar but the injury to Alessandro Florenzi might change things slightly. I suspect Davie Santon will fill in for Roma’s a vice-captain. In the defensive midfield, Roma should pair Lorenzo Pellegrini with a Bryan Cristante in that area. Lorenzo Pellegrini is the glue it to the Roma Midfield he functions a little better in the attack but given the fact he has just recovered from an injury playing in the defensive area might benefit him a little better in this situation. He will be the most important part of this Roma team on Wednesday what he can do his work and orchestrates his Midfield from that position. In Roma’s attacking midfield we should see the trio that we should have seen the last week. Nicolo Zaniolo occupying the center with Justin Kluivert and Cengiz under on each side. The pace that the three of them provide could be incredibly dangerous if used correctly. This is just so obvious you cannot miss it again. Then up front as Roma’s main Striker should be Edin Dzeko. The key player in this game for Roma is Lorenzo Pellegrini I have said this once and I’ll say it again Lorenzo Pellegrini is Roma’s most valuable player in this team because of his impact on the Midfield and his passing ability and intelligence to create opportunities to his teammates you see his impact based on how Roma have performed without him this season. If he is healthy he must start there is no excuse.

Florentina

It is really unclear what formation Florentina will use it has been really inconsistent this season as they have continuously made adjustments to it almost on a regular basis. However, in this situation, it seems that before the 4-3-3 formation and they use the last week seems to be the best approach. Defensively the defense should remain relatively similar to what we saw against Torino. I thought they did a decent job controlling the play this is something Florentina we’ll have to try to replicate as they have struggled in that area. In the Florentina Midfield, we should see very skilled Marco Benassi Kevin Mirallas and Gerson all three are relatively Technical and athletic. Gerson is the key there he has speed and pace that could make Florentina very dangerous through the Midfield. However, the most dangerous part of this team is the attack Federico Chiesa Luis Muriel and Gio Simeone. That is the most dangerous part of this team and if they are given service it could be a huge issue for Roma’s poor defense to deal with. The key player for Florentina is Federico Chiesa he is as gifted as anyone in Italian football in his position he is the most well-rounded player on Florentina he may not be the biggest threat to score but the total totality of abilities and skills he can be a huge difference maker in this match. If he can play at his very best Florentina have a shot at beating Roma.

Bottom Line

The bottom line is both of these teams are very balanced. Roma and Florentina are very similar their strengths are the same and even their weaknesses seem to have things in common with each other. This game is completely up for grabs both of these teams are in really bad storms and have had struggled to pick up points of any kind. Roma has 1 win in their last five Florentina has 0 wins in their last five. If you just looked at the league these teams are probably coming off their worst form of the season. Which means they both have something to prove. Roma’s desire to get a Europa League spots is still intact they have a slight chance at Champions League but as I said previously I do not think they’re going to get it that fight it’s over. Even so, Roma doesn’t want to miss on Europe all together this is their chance to try to write that ship in a better Direction. Also may have some incentives. The last time these two teams played Florentina beat them up 7-1 Roma has not forgotten that and will be looking for blood if they have the opportunity. I think this is an incredibly difficult game to predict neither team is playing well and although you can make Arguments for both they both have underperformed their expectations not only in general but in matches like this. For Florentina, their job is very simple to feed their attack as much as possible and cut into the Roma defense as much as they can. Winning The Possession battle could mean a lot for the viola the more they have the ball the more opportunities they will have to break through and hurt Roma. We know Roma’s defense can be exposed quite easily and with the pace, they have in the Midfield with Gerson and three capable Strikers on top with Luis Muriel Federico Chiesa and Simeone they have all the pieces to cause damage. However, for some reason over the last month, they had a lack of conviction in that area. Creating chances is important but if you don’t put them away then it’s just meaningless. I actually think Florentine are favorites in this game but based on what I’ve seen from this team against poor opposition I don’t trust them to finish the job. I’m not sure Roma can finish the job either. I have somewhat lost some trust in Ranieri’s decision-making after his debacle against Napoli if he plays his best team Roma have a serious chance but I find it hard to believe he will do that. Roma score will depend on Lorenzo Pellegrini if he is able to start the game it makes Roma favorites because the entire Midfield and functions at a higher level when he is on the pitch. If you add pace of Cengiz Under Justin Kluivert and Nicolo Zaniolo in the Midfield they can feed Dzeko with enough chances to win the game. Like I said both teams are capable of winning this game but I don’t think either one will. The defenses featured in this game are too inconsistent for it to be a shutout I suspect a goal scoring draw between two teams who cannot find their way. Both teams have the ability to respond I just don’t believe either one right now. If Lorenzo Pellegrini or Federico Chiesa is at their very best that could sway the results but as it stands we could see points spared on Wednesday night. Arguments can be made but both teams are lacking confidence and momentum when you go into a game without those two components you come out flat I don’t have confidence in either which is why I think we are looking at a draw.
