Roma vs Juventus Preview Match Day 36 #544

Following a very disappointing 1-1 draw with Genoa a result that has hurt their Champions League ambitions. Roma returns to Rome as they prepare to host Juventus at the Stadio Olimpico. During their first meeting, it was a 1-0 Juventus win at the Allianz Stadium earlier this year. Juventus has already won the league title and may not have a lot to play for being no longer in any other competitions but nonetheless, they will not lie down as Roma vs Juventus is always an important match regardless of the situation Whenever two heavyweights go head-to-head there’s always a little extra intensity. It what is an incredibly important match for Roma as their champions league desire will go up in flames if Roma fails to win. Roma right now 6 points out of 4th Place making it very unlikely that they attain their Champions League expectation. Nonetheless, Roma has its sights on it until the very end. Winning may not be enough because the Champions League race is out of their control. Whether or not Roma Make Champions League is unclear at the moment for Roma’s must do everything they can to at the very least qualify for the Europa League. A tough match against Juventus at the Stadio Olimpico is what awaits for them in the prime time slot on Sunday night. For Serie A’s match of the week, Will Roma end scoreless streak against Italy’s most dominant team? Or will Juventus show Roma’s who’s boss and take the season series we will find all that and more for when Juventus meets with Roma on Sunday night.

A.S Roma

D5OTWNDWAAARSlvRoma is scoreless in their last three matches against Juventus but I suspect Claudio Ranieri will have a game plan as the Romans will be ready for the challenge that lies ahead. We can expect the same formation that Roma have used almost exclusively since Claudia Ranieri took over Roma they are likely to shoot out of the 4-2-3-1 formation which for the most part has given them great success. Despite Roma’s results from last weekend, I’m not sure Roma will make any brass changes if any at all. Roma has the players necessary to pick up the three points and even though they failed to win last week the lineup wasn’t the problem on that day in Genoa things just didn’t go their way. Antonio Mirante will remain in goal since taking over for Robin Olsen about a month ago. Roma starting defense should remain more or less intact from a week ago. The defense is finally fully healthy. As we should see Alex Kolarov and Alessandro Florenzi on the outside with Federico Fazio and Kostas Manolas as the center backs. There should be no change there nor do I see it in the defensive midfielder either. We should see the defensive Midfield pairing of Bryan cristante and Steven nzonzi they could be incredibly important for Roman’s approach as they will try to dictate the Juventus attack. In Roma’s attacking Midfield. Roma is fighting for the Champions League a risk may be in order. Even though Nicolo zaniolo deserves strong consideration to start in central Midfield I think it would be going too young. Lorenzo Pellegrini did not play the best game last week but playing against Juventus I think it’s very important that Roma go with a little more experience. That’s not to mention the fact the last year Lorenzo Pellegrini had his Breakout game late in a year against Juventus so I think it would be too much of a risk not to start him. On the wings as always Roma’s best player this season Stephan El Shaarawy will surely be in that spot. That’s where things get a little tricky on the other side I would start Justin kluivert ahead of Nicolo zaniolo he’s been a little bit more consistent over the last few games. However, maybe the approach is to have him as a spark plug off the bench. There are so many ways you can go about doing this but I think Justin kluivert starting makes a little bit more sense based on form. Then up front as Roma’s main Striker well without question is edin Dzeko he’s not had a great season but Roma really doesn’t have better options at the moment and he is certainly capable of having a great game so dropping him to the bench will be a calculated risk. On the bench, Roma will have weapons as well with Nicolo Zaniolo Diego Perotti & Cengiz Under they will have options and based on the how the game is played Ranieri will have a chance to adjust his team if he needs to. The key players the game for me is Lorenzo Pellegrini even though he’s not coming off a great game if he can find his form he can distribute the ball to kluivert and El Shaarawy on both sides who have incredible speed from that perspective it seems like the best way Roma can dictate the match Lorenzo Pellegrini can potentially be the kingpin of this Roma attack.

FBL-ITA-SERIEA-JUVENTUS-FIORENTINwefwefuiufheuhifuheiifirkjtktrhA_1555786037Juventus have mutually nothing to play for Juventus have already won the scudetto they have been eliminated from the champions league and the Coppa Italia because of that it’s possible they play a younger team. Nonetheless, this is against Roma so there’s no question in my mind they will try to steal one at Stadio Olimpico. All that being said they won’t kill themselves over it but they’re not going to lay down because Roma still has things they are fighting for. I don’t see them making any drastic changes from last week’s game against Torino I see a little bit of an adjustment. Juventus are likely to operate out of the 4-4-2 formation there’s no real reason to adjust at now at this point of the season there’s nothing more they can accomplish this year. Even though it would not hurt to change goalkeeper I still think Szczesny will get the nod in the Juventus goal. In front of him in the Juventus backline, we should see a lot of the regulars with addition to Spinazzola dropping Alex Sandro to the bench. As he will join a back line that features Chiellini Leonardo Bonucci and Cancelo. In the Midfield your guess is as good as mine Juventus has unlimited options. In the Center midfield, Miralem Pjanic surely will want to start against his old team. He will likely be partnered either Emre Can or Blaise Matuidi. Given that Blaise Matuidi started the previous game my guess is Emre Can will start the match. On the outside for Juventus is likely to be Federico Bernardeschi and Juan Cuadrado. Then as the strike partnership up front will be Cristiano Ronaldo and Moise Kean. My key player for Juventus is Moise Kean a player that has had a breakout year for Juventus in a big match like this in which the result does not matter I think the young striker will be extra motivated.

Bottom Line

Both of these teams have different motives for going into this match. Juventus vs Roma is always a big game regardless of what time of year or what the league table says. The fact of the matter is this Juventus have already won the league title and have nothing else to play for other than their pure desire to beat Roma. Meanwhile, Roma is hanging on in the Champions League race by a thread and even if that doesn’t happen Roma needs to ensure Europa League football. The club is going to be in huge trouble if they miss out on Europe all together so whether or not the Champions League dream is dead for them they still want to go out there and perform every single game where Juventus can get away with 50% effort because of their situation. We will not see Champions League Form Juventus on Sunday it’s quite simply will not happen. They will try to win this game but the desire to win will not be as strong because they don’t really need this as Roma does. If Roma fails to win their Champions League dreams will go up in flames. They need three points just to keep their head above water. With Atalanta winning earlier today it’s now a six-point stretch in some aspect Roma needs to win and rely on others for a Champions League to be possible from my viewpoint it already looks dead. Roma at the Stadio Olimpico this will go in their advantage even though Roma has failed to beat Juventus in their last 3 games Juventus has not beaten Roma at home in quite some time. Roma at home I’ve been pretty consistent this season and that is saying a lot considering how inconsistent this Roma team actually is. Juventus will play their game plan trying to get Ronaldo and Moise Kean into dangerous situations largely from the Midfield as they will try to orchestrate opportunities for Juventus incredibly dangerous strike force. Max Allegri isn’t going to try anything extravagant they’re going to play their game plan and try to get Roma to play into their hands just enough so I can get the three points. From Roma point of view, they will rely on Lorenzo Pellegrini to create involvement a large part trying to feed the outside which will have the speed of Stephan El Shaarawy and Justin kluivert. They are two of the fastest players in Italian football. If you give them time and space to operate they can create opportunities for themselves or feed Edin Dzeko getting him a service will be essential. On the other side of things, the defensive Midfield play a really important role in trying to eliminate opportunities Juventus will create. In a strange way, an argument can be made because of the situation that Roma can beat Juventus and I believe they certainly can. However, Juventus can defend well enough to keep it level. I think both teams will score but in the end, a point will not be enough as Roma Champions League campaign will go up in flames Roma will certainly do enough to secure Europa League but after Sunday I think the Champions League over for Roma.
