Champions League Team of Of the Season Part 2 #570

Midfielder Hakim Ziyech (Ajax)

Hakim Ziyech was one of the standout performers of this year’s Champion’s League. One of the biggest reasons Ajax had success in their Underdog Story that led them all the way to the Champions League semi-final he orchestrated a tremendous campaign. The bigger the moment the more he thrives. He has been one of the highest rated midfielders in Europe for the last several seasons. He nearly left prior to the season but he gave it one more year a year that was truly special. He contributed on his own merits as well as putting his teammates in position the score. Three goals and three assists throughout this year’s Champions League campaign but all of them seem to be incredibly important in times were Ajax really needed a lift they’ve relied on Hakim Ziyech who we all know will heading for the exit door this summer even but he gave them a Champions League campaign at to remember. They nearly made the finals an argument can be made they probably should have he was the engine of the team one of the most important units of this Underdog Story. He was just special throughout the campaign proving his worth while increasing his transfer value in every game. For the last few seasons, he has been one of the most underrated players in Europe after this Champions League campaign people know who he is now. Real Madrid had it just 3 peated Champions League. Against Ajax, Hakim Ziyech gave them huge problems scoring in both games proving he is a big-time player. He absolutely dominated them and was a huge factor in their ability to knock out the defending champions not just Real Madrid he was superb against Juventus as well the later the competition. Hakim Ziyech has the clutch Gene a tremendous player that’s displayed time and time of again why Europe is after him. He will not be at the Dutch club next season but he gave them a near storybook ending to cap off a tremendous campaign.

Midfielder: Donny Van De Beek (Ajax)

Yet another Ajax player making it into the team of the season Donny Van Bleak was excellent throughout the campaign especially in the Knockout rounds this Ajax team was filled with a young core one of the youngest most talented young teams in Europe. Unfortunately, this team is going to blow up this summer but the core is undeniable. Donnie van De Beek was instrumental in displaying a dominating performance in the round of 16 against Real Madrid at the Bernabeu Ajax seemingly went against the odds in Spain they pulverized Real Madrid as they advanced to the quarterfinals. It was a game in which Madrid had two away goals The Narrative was it was all but over however Danny van bleach had other ideas. One of the best performances of the season for the midfielder he created so many opportunities for his teammates found the pass showed excellent display of vision and was the most dominating factor in that match. He just had an incredibly special campaign. Showed some unbelievable set of skill and intelligence. Against Juventus in the quarterfinals at Allianz Arena a goal from Donny Van De Beek in a match Ajax ended up winning. He seemed to be a crucial factor in practically every knockout game. A tremendous campaign from another special player on this Ajax team. One of the most underrated players in the tournament showed his quality on a consistent basis. The youngster was just special I feel we will only see more progression after this Champions League season.

Midfielder: Dušan Tadić (Ajax)

Dušan Tadić was one of the stars of the Champions League in what was a bit of a surprise. The most dangerous part of Ajax attack that went all the way to the semi-finals. The Champions League campaign that he ended up having taken a lot of people by surprise. The Serbian played for Southampton in the Premier League for many seasons but he’s finally seeing his best football in Amsterdam. His best seasons are still ahead of him even though he’s 30 years old he really showed the world that he still is a top-quality player. One of the most effective players in the entire Champions League he was dangerous on an almost regular basis for the Amsterdam Club. You can make an argument that he was the most efficient player he not only scored a bunch of goals he facilitated opportunities for his teammates. A true quality performer in this season’s Champions League. He was one of the top scorers in the competition. Six goals and four assists as he led Ajax all the way to the semi-final in what has been a historic season this team going to break up as Europe will raid everyone but Katic will remain he has developed himself as one of the leaders of the team someone they can count on in any situation. Quality performances late in the competition showed his value and that he had the energy intelligence an ability to maintain his consistency throughout the entire campaign. A truly special season in Europe for the Serbian. Easily one of the best players in the Champions League this season a campaign of magic that he was the Forefront of at Ajax.

Attacker: Leo Messi (Barcelona)

Leo Messi is the best player in the world and arguably the best in history. A large part of that is his ability to perform at the highest level in the game’s biggest moments. In the Champions League, he was heads and tails in front of everyone. The best player in this competition by a country mile. He was absolutely Sensational throughout. He led the Champions League in goals and assists proven his unbelievable impact on a Barcelona Squad that even though they have won the league is one of the less impressive teams they have had over the last several years. Leo Messi wanted the champions league its the thing craves most of all even though that was unable to happen and once again they went down in embarrassing Style. You cannot take away for the season he proved again and again that he is the best player in the world and at this point, I’m not sure it’s very close. It has been years since Leo Messi scored a goal past the round of 16 he broke that streak this year. After getting past Lyon with a two goal and two assists performance one of the best individual performance we have seen in the Champions League this season. Against Manchester United, he finally scored in the quarterfinals once again. Throughout the competition, he was just better than everyone else. In the first leg of the semi-final against Liverpool, he scored two goals including a free-kick that was absolutely outrageous the best goal in the Champions League this year. 12 goals and 6 assists in the Champions League even though it was very disappointing to see another collapse from Barcelona you cannot deny he was the best player in the Champions League and I don’t think it’s particularly close. He should win the Ballon d’Or yet again without any difficulty. He truly has been the best player in the world and in the biggest competition his performance made that blatantly obvious.

Attacker: Cristiano Ronaldo (Juventus)

Cristiano Ronaldo had a relatively slow start to the Champions League. However, the Portuguese star came alive late in the competition proving and only further justifying that he still is one of the best in the world. He only scored 1 goal in the group stage against his former Club Manchester United. Outside of that his display in the group stage was relatively unimpressive. That even carried in the first leg of the round of 16 against Atletico Madrid a match in which Juventus lost 2-0. The Italian Club needed a miracle to save their season in Europe. Finally, Cristiano Ronaldo made his presence known in the Champions League showing the world why Juventus spent so much money on him in the summer. He scored a hat-trick bringing Juventus back from the dead securing a place in the quarterfinals. Juventus went up against Ajax the Underdog Story of the Champions League. He scored and both games away in Amsterdam in at home in Torino. Showing his abilities is a big-time player however they were unable to get across the line as Ajax pulled off the upset in dramatic fashion. Despite their failure to win the Champions League which was the sole purpose of bringing in Cristiano Ronaldo late in the competition, he showed his qualities. Six goals and two assists in this campaign. Even though the end result was disappointing nonetheless he still was one of the best players and its competition especially late. Ronaldo will be determined and more motivated next season’s try to take advantage & Juve to a place they have not been in a long time. Certainly not his best Champions League in recent memory but still was put together a sensational campaign.

Attacker: Sergio Aguero (Manchester City)

Even though Manchester City have the best manager in the world in Pep Guardiola and an incredible team that just won a back-to-back Premier League titles they failed in the Champions League once again. This time in the semi-finals nonetheless Sergio Aguero was absolutely Sensational throughout the entire duration of the Champions League. An 6 goals one assist campaign that brought Man City on the brink of a Champions League final. Four of his six goals came in The Knockout stage. Showing an unbelievable quality as the campaign of progress. For a long time, he has been one of the most underrated players in World football and it only continues this year. He has just been special in this competition. If it wasn’t for a handball against Spurs that was not called it is quite possible that Manchester City would have made the Champions League final. None the less you can only admire the productivity and greatness Sergio Aguero displayed in Europe this season.
