It has been a very eventful week for Roma this week following the opening of the transfer window. Roma completed a swap deal of Luca Pellegrini and Leonardo Spinazzola plus cash earlier this week pulling off the first signing of the summer for Roma. Roma’s new sporting director continues to attempt to strengthen the squad for new manager Paulo Fonseca. There have been several meetings between the Roma Personnel and players agents regarding several players that Roma are interested in. There’s seemingly is a lot going on and they have been keeping themselves very busy. Over the last week or so Napoli and Roma have engaged in two different deals. After 5 years in the capital Centre back Kostas Manolas secured a 38 million move to Napoli as the signing gives Koulibaly a real partnership that could make a Napoli the prohibitive favorite when the season at kicks off in late August. It was a move that Roma truly needed to make despite the circumstances. They had to balance the books and needed to sell him for financial issues obviously it’s a very difficult decision given the fact that the Greek Defender scored one of the most iconic goals in Roma’s history. There’s been an awful lot going on with Nicolo Barella who seemingly rejected Roma’s advances after Roma found an agreement with his Club. However, Roma secures the signing of Napoli midfielder Amondu Diawara for roughly 21 million. A massive deal given his age and the price in this market 21 million is a great deal. This is a deal that has been talked about for several weeks. Initially, he was put in the conversation as a possible swap deal with Napoli for Kostas Manolas. Eventually, Roma decided against that because they wanted to get as much money as possible for the Greek center back. Nonetheless, Napoli was willing to make an agreement for the talented midfielder that Roma nearly signed 3 years ago. In the summer of 2016 Diawara nearly joined Roma as he agreed on personal terms however bologna eventually sold him to Napoli After they outbid the Romans. The midfielder has agreed on a 5-year deal through the 2024 season he has yet to talk to any Roma personnel or arrive at the club as he is on International Duty in the African Cup of Nations in Egypt. Once the tournament is over he will come to Rome and be formally introduced by the media as a Roma player. Another very solid signing by Roma as they view Diawara as a possible replacement for departing Captain Daniele de Rossi in that defensive Midfield role. Despite losing a key player It has been a very encouraging start to the transfer window. Signings will only continue Advanced talks with Real Betis regarding goalkeeper Pau Lopez and Defender Marc Bartra. As well as Florentina midfielder Jordan Veretout who is already agreed on personal terms. Finally, Atalanta Mancini viewed as a possible replacement for Kostas Manolas as well as many others. I think it is only inevitable that signings will continue to follow as we start to see what this new Roma team will look like next season.
Amadou Diawara is a very talented midfielder from Guinea in Africa. After some time with some different youth academies, he was discovered as early in his career by Italian side San Marino. San Marino is a club deep in the depths of Italian football. A very small team with very little exposure whatsoever. He only appeared in 15 matches before he was discovered by a team in Serie A. Pantaleone Corvino a sporting director at bologna football club recognized his talent with the idea to bring him to Serie A. He was determined as he eventually got the deal done. Amadou Diawara eventually agreed on a transfer worth $420,000 to join in Bologna. He had a spectacular first season and was viewed as one of the best young talents in Italian football his play did not go unnoticed proving to be a pivotal part of a Bologna team. He was a superstar in the making and it was blatantly obvious as all the eyes of Europe were on this very talented kid. In his first season, Amadou Diawara won the ball back 258 times the 4th highest in Italy as well as intercepting the ball 91 times with ranked 6th in Serie A. In his one and only season he showed incredible growth in such a short amount of time. The young star led bologna to 14th in the league after being heavily expected to be relegated. The following summer a lot of Italian teams in need of a midfielder were after him. Ironically Roma was among them but they were out to bid by Napoli. He joined Maurizio Sarri Napoli side who was poised for a run at the title. He gave and Napoli some added depth as he continued to show his capabilities. Napoli ended up finishing third in what was an incredibly tight race finishing one point behind second-place Roma who leapfrogged Napoli on the last match of the season. Napoli the next season showed what they are capable of. They unveiled themselves as the threat to Juve’s throne. It was the best season ever statically for Napoli as they finished with 91 points however some poor performances late in the season the league lost them the title that should have been theirs. Amadou Diawara scored his first Napoli goal against Manchester City in the Champions League in an exhilarating 4-2 loss he also scored his first goal in Italian football putting home a screamer against Chievo Verona he honestly was not utilized in the best way in Naples. However, he made his impact when he had the opportunity. He still showed how incredibly talented and how much potential he really has. Last season under Carlo Ancelotti he failed to get in the team very much as he clearly wasn’t in his plans. However, he only continued to develop into a refined player even with the lack of game time. He is an incredibly gifted defensive midfielder and with more regular game time next season at Roma, we should see the young prodigy we all fell in love with 3 years ago.
Amadou Diawara finally gets his move to Rome that he has been waiting for. When he signed for Napoli in 2016 he had agreed on personal terms with Roma but they just couldn’t get a deal done. The capital has always been his preference. In regards to his availability this summer he was holding out for Roma. He had three offers from abroad and rejected all of them. According to his comments and his agent, he was only interested in Roma and was going to hold out for it. He finally gets his wish and he could not have come at a better time. He is another player that will fit right in with Paulo Fonseca how he likes to play football. He will slide right into the starting lineup regardless of what formation the manager plays he will be able to thrive in all of it. He will fit into the system like a glove playing that defensive midfielder role that is vacant after Daniele de Rossi’s departure from Roma. To get a player of his age for just 21 million is absolutely sensational. He’s a young physical fast player with a high level of intelligence. The type of skills he possesses can make Romans midfield very dangerous this season and going forward. This is a very cheap deal for a 21-year-old who has untapped potential. He reminds me a little bit of Ngolo Kante at Chelsea. He has that defensive pressure is a workhorse for the team. We have seen this level of play on a somewhat regular basis when he has been given game time. He can be a very crucial part of this Midfield next season and beyond and this could be one of the deals of the summer. Given his age at only just 21 years old and his ability to get a player like this for just 21 million is incredibly cheap especially given the fact that we are in a deflated market. He has all the abilities and skills to become a superstar I think he will be the diamond in the rough. Making tough tackles playing that physical & almost supplying a security blanket to a defense that has struggled last season. I think potentially he could be a perfect partner for Bryan Cristante who had a very underrated season with Steven Nzonzi beside him. The French midfielder is likely to be leaving and giving Cristante a more valuable option play in the defensive role will be enormous for this team consistency going forward. Going into the summer that was one of the things that Roma needed to do they needed to find a Bryan Cristante a defensive midfielder partner that he can rely on a consistent basis. A lot of the times last year Bryan Cristante almost felt like he was on an island in the defensive Midfield area because of the disappointing season from Steven Nzonzi. Now Roma has two quality defensive midfielders who are capable of contributing defensively and going forward. The defensive Midfield at times can be the Kingpin of the attack. This pair is a match made in heaven. That doesn’t necessarily mean they will be starting together all the time but it’s good to have a dual like this who are capable of feeding off each other and playing really strong strategic football. This signing is perfect for Roma this is exactly the type of player they need. Both Amadou Diawara and Leonardo Spinazzola are upgrading at their positions. Roma has grabbed experience & young talent a very promising start to the transfer window. Roma can start filling out some other needs with players at this kind of level. Roma have their sporting director their manager of the future and now added quality to the side if they continue to improve the squad this summer this team could be a lot better then people are suggesting
