Juventus 4 Napoli 3 FT
We saw a big prime-time game in ahead of the second week of the season. Much like the opening game the week before we saw and absolute goal Fest a match that had incredible drama and excitement throughout a thrilling 90 minutes. One of the biggest matches of the Season already taking place as Juventus hosted Napoli at the Allianz stadium in Turin. Napoli is the biggest threat to the throne that Juventus sits. This is the title race that will be most enticing this season. In what was a rivalry driven match Saturday night. Napoli has fallen short of the title in two of the last three seasons there is a rivalry element competitively. The match came to life shortly after de sciglio came out for injury we saw the debut of Danilo who just arrived recently following a move from Manchester City. He was forced into action after de sciglio came out it was an instant impact. Following a Napoli attack, Juventus got out on the break largely orchestrated by Douglas Costa who found Danilo who scored to give Juve the 1-0 lead. He scored within 15 seconds of his debut as he makes an instant impact even if he was not the one orchestrating it. Just a few minutes later Juventus doubled their advantage as Gonzalo Higuain scored against his old side giving Juventus a 2-0 advantage. It seemed a bit harsh on Napoli who was playing well. After 45 minutes Juve had the 2-0 lead. In the second half, Cristiano Ronaldo put what you would have thought would have been the nail in the coffin. The Portuguese star struck gold sticking the ball into the back of the net to give Juve the 3-0 lead. It was getting very ugly very quickly it seemed all but over for Napoli. However, Napoli didn’t give up and started carving their way back. Kostas manolas scored his first goal for Napoli connecting a header into the back of the net to give Napoli some hope. Napoli continued to crawl their way back into the game. New signing Irving Lozano who had just come back in the second half made his Mark striking from the center of the box as Napoli scored another goal within a few minutes of each other to make it 3-2. They kept coming and coming and eventually they fought all the way back as Giovanni di Lorenzo scored with 9 minutes left they had done the impossible to equalize. However, a certain level of misfortune occurred in the closing minutes as the best defender in Italy koulibaly scored an own goal in stoppage time to put a harsh stamp on an excellent second-half performance As Juventus held on for a 4-3 victory. It is especially cruel because of how well Koulibaly played in the second half it was an absolute show that ended with a sour taste for Napoli.
Derby Della Capitale Roma 1 Lazio 1FT
Roma was coming off a dramatic and exciting 3-3 draw with Genna to kick off the season. As it set them up for one of the most dramatic and important matches of the entire season. The Roman Derby between Roma and Lazio one of the biggest derbies in football & not only in Italy but in all of Europe. In fact and argument can be made that it is the most important Derby in European football given what the result of this match means for both teams. Roma and Lazio aren’t really fighting for titles and haven’t been for a long time. Sometimes the meaning of the Season isn’t to win the title it’s to win the Derby or at the very least finish ahead of them. Last night was a classic Derby to have this game so early in the season was quite rare. This match doesn’t typically occur until midseason but none the less there was a lot of drama and Misfortune when these two teams went to battle at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome. We saw intensity physicality excitement and a lot of misfortune. Lazio for a large portion of the match looked like the better team. Maybe not dramatically in control but had a slight advantage of Roma. Nonetheless, it was actually Roma who pulled their heads in front early. As they were giving a penalty in the opening 20 minutes of the game. Alex Kolarov stepped up drilling the ball into the back of the net to give Roma the 1-0 lead. They managed to hold on to the lead going into halftime however Roma and Lazio hit the crossbar several times in the first half so it could have looked dramatically different. In the second half, it continued to be a battle Roma did everything they could to prevent the inevitable as Lazio still looked like they were in control. Eventually, they broke the deadlock through Luis Alberto to equalize making 1-1. Lazio hit the crossbar two more times in the second half & Roma had their moments as well even though Lazio were the better team they look dangerous on the counter-attack yet again. Ultimately both teams looked for a winner but none couldn’t find it as points are spared in the Roman Derby as we head for the international break after a very dramatic opening two games of the season.
Torino 3 Atalanta 2FT
Italian football this season is just on another level and we saw another example of that in a battle between two of the biggest overachievers from the last term in a battle between Torino and Atalanta. Much like the large majority of the games this season, it was a back-and-forth battle between two teams that wanted to prove their superiority. Both of these teams want to prove that their success last season wasn’t a fluke and they are capable fighting for Europe’s for a second consecutive season. Midway through the first-half Kevin Bonifazi connected on a beautiful delivery from Baselli drilling the ball into the back of the net with a thunderous header to give Torino the 1-0 lead. At alanta would respond a little later on a counter-attack instigated by Remo Fueler Atalanta got on the attack and converted through duvan Zapata as the best player from last season gets his first goal as Atalanta equalize making it 1-1. Despite both sides sharing blows they went into the second half with the score level. In the second half, Atalanta got themselves in front as duvan Zapata put together a sequence that was absolutely outrageous. Taking the ball from the wing all the way into the box cutting around the defender before sticking it into the back of the net to give Atalanta the to 2-1 lead. Alex Berenguer equalizing with an equally magical individual pieces skill. Taking the ball from the Wing cutting it into a teammate retrieving the ball back inside the box before tucking it away into the bottom corner as Torino equalizes. It was absolute drama with another display up top-class football from both teams. However, we weren’t done a little more than 10 minutes later Daniele baselli on a free kick got Torino back in front with a spot-on delivery into Izzo who put his head through the cross putting it into the back of the net making it 3-2 to Torino. A great comeback after being down. In the end, they held off a two-goal performance from Duvan Zapata to secure a second consecutive victory Can they ride this momentum through the rest of the season? they certainly have got themselves off to a great start.
Sassuolo 4 Sampdoria 1FT
Sampdoria and sassuolo lost there opening games both teams were searching for their first points of the season. It was quite a momentous occasion at the Mapei Stadium for what was a thrilling battle highlighted by a particular individual performance. In the opening part of the game, Sampdoria did appear as the better team who was more in control but a lapse in judgment and some Brilliance from Francesco Caputo seemed to change that quickly It ended up being a slugfest sassuolo went back to the front went from a defensive position to orchestrating a Counterattack. Francesco Caputo drove the ball from Midfield all the way in it to the Sampdoria’s danger area as he supplied a perfect pass into Berardi who stuck the ball into the back of the net to give sassuolo the 1-0 lead. Just seven minutes later Sassuolo broke through again as they began to push towards Sampdoria’s area again Alfred Duncan supplied a perfect ball into Berardi who smashed the ball into the back of the neck with a powerful header scoring his second goal in less than 10 minutes to make it 2-0 as sassuolo doubled their lead. Minutes later it happened again Beradi from outside the box struck gold with a thunderstrike that found the bottom corner from distance scoring his third goal completing his hat-trick and an astounding 14 minutes giving sassuolo the 3-0 lead. Berardi shows he still has the qualities. They went into the second half with a three-goal lead after it was all but over As they continued to dominate the game Sampdoria really struggled to get anything going as at this moment they look like the worst team in Serie A this season. Completely unorganized and a serious lack of communication. In the second half, Ronaldo Vieira put an absolutely antagonizing tackle on the Palazzo as he was shown the red card and send off. Shortly after Traore cut through the Samp defence putting it into the back of the net to make it 4-0 sassuolo. They continued it to attack on several occasions. Sampdoria eventually got a goal back from the penalty spot. However, none of that mattered it was truly the Berardi show as Sampdoria get clobbered 4-1 behind a 14-minute hat-trick from Berardi.
Inter Milan 2 Cagliari 1FT
Inter Milan try to make it two in a row against Cagliari. I did not find this game that enticing but this game got attention for all the wrong reasons It wouldn’t be doing the sport any justice if we ignored it. Inter Milan it did not look great in their second match under Antonio Conte. They faced a Cagliari team that features Radja who looks to get some revenge against Inter Milan for the way that they treated him. Lautaro Martinez gave Inter Milan the early lead. The Young argentine connected on a header coming off a corner finding the back of the net to open his scoring account this season. He has been the best player on this team so far this year. Juan Pedro equalized in the second half as it got a little dicey throughout the match. Throughout the match, we had to deal with a great amount of racism. The Cagliari fans abused romelu Lukaku making monkey sound throughout the game something that was particularly disgusting. Even more so the Ultras at Inter Milan that defended the racist chants. One of the most egregious things I have heard as this fanbase has been known to do this several times. It is time to put it to a stop as this fanbase deserves some severe punishment. In the end, romelu Lukaku scored a late penalty that secured the three points for Inter Milan they did not play particularly well but in this match, it did not seem to matter as the occasion was overshadowed by racism something that needs to be stopped.
