Europa League Roma vs Istanbul Başakşehir Preview Match Day 1 #630

Roma is coming off their first win of the season this weekend. They absolutely annihilated Sassuolo in the first half in which they scored four goals in the opening 33 minutes on their way to an eventual 4-2 victory. Roma has a short week as their Europa League campaign kicks off tomorrow night. Last time they were in this competition was during the 2016 – 2017 season when they won their group but it was short-lived beyond that eventually getting knocked out in the round of 16 against Olympique Lyon. On Thursday night at the Stadio Olimpico will be their first opportunity to make a statement in the group stage. Roma has been given a very winnable group with Istanbul Borussia and Wolfsberger. A group Roma should have no problem winning. Istanbul will come to the Olimpico tomorrow night in what should be an absolutely thrilling Affair. It is the former Club of injured star Cengiz Under. The expectation is that is they will be Roma’s biggest threat in the group which is why it is very important to start strong. Istanbul is one of the top teams in the Turkish League missing out on the title last season but just a few points they are capable and will be up for the challenge tomorrow night. Roma’s European season officially begins Will Roma take care of business and their own backyard or will Istanbul have something special up their sleeves we will find all that and more when these two teams throw down on a Thursday night in the Italian capital.

A.S Roma

It is a bit unpredictable what kind of adjustments will be made with the formation in the Europa League and Fonseca wants to play it. My guess is there will be no formational change in the Europa League Roma’s current formation seems to be effective and the best utilize to attack with the style of football they will play. Cengiz Under, Diego Perotti remain out with injuries. Meanwhile, Chris Smalling is questionable for the game. Paulo Fonseca has told the media that Roma’s new signing will not be risked if he is not 100%. I think the Personnel could go through some changes ahead of the Europa League. Paul Lopez as always will be in goal. At left-back could be Leonardo spinazzola. ALEKS Kolarov is Roma’s starting left-back the majority of the time but given his age, I think it’s possible that he is dropped for this match. Everything else less should look the same with Federico Fazio and Gianluca Mancini as the center-backs and the right-back being Roma Captain Alessandro Florenzi. In the defensive Midfield, I would play Jordan veretout and Diawara. Then in the attacking Midfield, I would play Lorenzo Pellegrini in the center with Nicolo zaniolo and Justin kluivert on the outside with Hendrix Mkhitaryan available and ready just needed from the bench. Then upfront, as the main Striker could be either edin Dzeko or Nikola Kalinic it’s really hard to pick between the two but I would give it to Edin Dzeko as he remains in good form. The key player for Roma in this match will be Justin kluivert after an electrifying performance last week he could be incredibly important in competition.

Istanbul Başakşehir

752x395-sampiyon-basaksehir-1514771741473.jpegIstanbul much like Roma prefers the 4-2-3-1 formation. I looked over their last several games and they have almost exclusively used the same setup for their team. They are not doing particularly well this season after nearly winning the title last season they have dropped two of the opening for games and find themselves in 14th Place in the Turkish League. This will not last and it’s only the beginning of the season but is a slight cause for concern. Despite their league positioning, they are a team that is capable of putting out a very strong side with some key players. In goal will be Gunok. The backline will consist of former Manchester City Star Cilchy, a center-back partnership of Skurtal and Epureneu then at right-back will be the Brazilian Junior. Into the defensive of Midfield, we can expect Topal and Cekademir. Then in the attacking Midfield should be Aleksic then on the wing will be former European star Robino and Edin Visca who is the leader of this team. Then upfront as the main striker is likely to be Crivelle. A relatively strong team that may have its difficulties but what happens in this game will be solely on the shoulders of Edin Visca.

European matches are never easy regardless of competition. It’s extremely important to start the group as strong as you possibly can. Roma is the heavy favorites in this group and one of the favorites for the entire competition. Not only because of their reputations and expectations in the Europa League this season but Istanbul is their biggest threats in the group as I mentioned Istanbul has not started off the season well. Thursday evening Roma want to take advantage of their lack of form but even so it will prove to be a tough match. It’s important that Roma start this campaign strong because we do not want to see any lack of consistency as we have seen in the past. If this Match was going to be a turkey it would be a different situation not matches are easy in that country being in Rome can give them a huge advantage. Istanbul does have some players but Roma has far superiority at least on paper. They have the depth and weapons on the bench that can be overwhelming. However, despite all the weapons that Roma have in the attacking sense they are still a defensive liability. From Istanbul point of view, they have to find a way to involve Edin Visca as much they possibly can he is a serious problem one of the very best players in that League. You take that with Robinho and Demba Ba as well they are not nearly as talented as Roma. Those players are key in getting a result in Rome. The results of every game will rely on the defense Roma needs to do everything in their power to be mistake-free. Romans huge Advantage is in the attack. Even if Roma does make mistakes defensively is as explosive and has fluid as it is capable of being so dangerous. Istanbul will have a hard time keeping up with the likes of Justin kluivert Lorenzo Pellegrini Nicolo Zaniolo. Whether if its Edin Dzeko or Kalanic the Firepower they will have in the attack especially in this system in which Paulo Fonseca plays very attacking football it may be just too much for Istanbul to overcome especially at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome. Roma is the better team and tomorrow night I think they will show that. If this game wasn’t turkey it would be a completely different dynamic but because Roma has a home game against a team that has less talent that will be an outlier as they are capable of taking them down. It will be tough at moments and defensively there will be issues throughout this game but in the end eventually, Roma will breakthrough and Coast to a moderately difficult Victory. It will not be extremely tough but it will not be easy but Roma will start this Europa League season with three massive points at the Stadio Olimpico tomorrow night.
