In Brescia, we saw an absolute Thriller in what turned out to be a seven-goal affair that had its drama & controversy. Without question the most exciting match of the weekend. Early in this match, newly-promoted Brescia took advantage of some early opportunities that looked to swing the momentum of the match into their favor. Brescia took the lead with Antonio Donnarumma who put his head through a cross Inside the Box to give Brescia the 1-0 lead in the opening 10 minutes. S.P.A.L 2 Lazio 1FT

Spal hosted Lazio in what was another dramatic finish in the return of Italian football. A match that truly was a back-and-forth battle throughout it was never clear who was taking the three points. It was a very big game for Lazio having started the season pretty well as they would like to finish ahead of Roma for the first time in almost a decade. Lazio needed to start this campaign strong if they wanted to achieve some of their European ambitions. A strong start would go a long way towards that. However, SPAL had other ideas & felt the confidence and momentum at home against a fierce opponent. Lazio would take the lead in the first half after a penalty that was converted by Ciro Immobile. He continues to have an incredibly productive campaign as he has been as consistent as any striker in the league since he made his move to the blue side of Rome. SPAL in the second-half would start to mount a comeback. At home behind their fans that understand how important these sort of matches are. They are a team that could get dragged down to the relegation zone at some point if they don’t start their campaign strong. Both of these teams need to start strong but for very different reasons. Andrea Petagna equalized scoring an important goal to draw things level at 1-1. As the game went on the more it looked like it is going to be a point split between the two teams. That would have been a great point for SPAL but they wanted more than that as they continued to push and push and at the very end they broke through. Coming off a counter-attack Kurtic struck from outside the box putting the ball into the bottom corner to give SPAL the late lead making 2-1. Time would run out as SPAL pull off the improbable upset at the stroke of death.

Atalanta 2 Genoa 1FT

It was truly a weekend of late drama and theatrics. We certainly witness that in Genoa as they took out on last year’s Darlings Atalanta. A very evenly matched game between two clubs who will be trying to fight for Europe in the Season’s end. A team of absolute fire powers in Atalanta and perhaps the most improved teams in the entire league in Genoa who has finally started to build the club into something. A very tough match neither giving an inch. It was a back-and-forth battle despite chances coming from both teams we couldn’t find a breakthrough in the opening 45 minutes. Midway through the second half, a penalty was given to Atalanta. Serie A journeyman Luis Muriel stepped up and converted to put Atlanta into the lead it continued to be a struggle with both teams looking very Lively throughout the match. Atalanta was going to escape with a tough Match away in Genoa. However, the match had some late drama. Genoa in stoppage time was given a penalty of their own. Genoa Captain Cristo stepped up putting the ball through the net to equalize making a 1-1 with just minutes ago. However no less than three minutes later more late drama was in order. Following some great dribbling skills from Papu Gomez The Hitman Duvan Zapata took the ball from outside the box being surrounded before smashing the ball and it to the top left corner in what was an absolute rocket beating goalkeeper hitting the inside of the post into the back of the net in what would be a game-winning goal for the Colombian. Atalanta is a very dramatic and exhilarating match secure all three points thanks to a late goal from last year’s player-of-the-season duvan Zapata his great year last season clearly wasn’t a fluke as Atalanta steals three points from Genoa in stoppage time after Genoa had seemed to have salvaged.

Juventus 0 Florentina 0FT

Mauricio Sarri returned it to the Juventus making his debut as manager after having missed first two games. It was a special return to Italy having taken over Juventus over the summer however his debut did not go according to planned Juventus traveled to Florence having picked up maximum points up to this point. Meanwhile, Florentina was winless having a been beaten by a Napoli and bologna. It turned out to be a rather ugly match between the two sides. Neither seems to be able to breakthrough. Florentina and Juventus both had moments throughout the game but they couldn’t find a breakthrough. Cristiano Ronaldo, Kevin-Prince Boateng, and Franck Ribery all came close on a multitude of occasions. It was an ugly match in an environment that troubled Juventus. Despite the fact that they controlled The Possession and the match they just couldn’t find a way in. Meanwhile, Florentina couldn’t convert after all the chances they created. They accumulated 18 shots with only four On Target. All in all, it was a day and a match of frustration for both teams. Juventus wanted to stay perfect meanwhile despite the fact that Florentina got the point at home against the league champions there was a certain level of frustration that they couldn’t close the deal in what was an ugly game as Juventus are held in Florence.

Roma 4 Sassuolo 2FT

Sunday afternoon Roma won their first game of the Pablo Fonseca era in Rome. Coming off International break Roma we’re looking for their first win of the season. Despite having taken the leads against Genoa and Lazio they’ve only managed two points from the opening two matches. It was a match that seemed like a must-win even though it’s early in the season it could have been a cause for concern. Roma beat Sassuolo last season but a draw against them late in the year prevented them from Champions League football. The team may have been different but Roma as a club did not forget that. It was the first half of an attacking masterpiece. Early in the match, Bryan Cristante put his head through a cross coming from a corner to give Roma the 1-0 lead. Roma would double it just minutes later on the counter-attack as Lorenzo Pellegrini found Alex Kolarov who found Edin Dzeko as he stuck it into the back of the net to give Roma the 2-0 lead. They were just getting warmed up on a Counterattack just a minute later Hendrix Mkhitaryan scored his debut goal after receiving a perfectly-placed passed from Lorenzo Pellegrini scoring making it a 3-0 lead. As hard as it is to imagine they were not done Lorenzo Pellegrini orchestrated a breakaway for Justin kluivert who beat the goalkeeper to give Roma a 4-0 lead. It was a 4 goal first half. Roma played such attacking a brand of football. One of the best Roma performances we have seen in a long time. Sassuolo did get back into the game in the second half as Berardi scored an incredible free-kick and then late in the game score another following some defensive miscommunication. However Roma’s lead was insurmountable as they pick up their first win of the season in what was a dominating performance Roma even could have added more having hit the crossbar twice it was a display of incredible cruise control a true masterpiece picking up an important win that will give them momentum and confidence for Thursday’s match in the Europa League.
