Roma vs Udinesse Match Day 10 Preview #673

Roma are coming off a fantastic result against AC Milan just a few days ago. This Roma team has a significantly struggled this season and it was a game of great encouragement. Following a disappointment in the Europa League under controversial decisions Roma get right back on track as they try to sway the season in a more positive direction the Romans are just one point from Champions League football with an opportunity this weekend to cut into that top four. Roma head out on the road to face Udinesse. These two clubs at split the season series last season. But historically Roma have had a significant advantage against them which is a big reason why they go into this game as heavy favorites. Roma are coming off their best performance and quite a while meanwhile Udinesse is coming off their worst display of the season having been annihilated By Atalanta 7-1 last weekend. The last thing they need is to meet up with a team coming off a big win coming into their stadium. It will be an incredibly tough match for Udinesse maybe just too much to handle as Roma should find a way through to get the three points but you never know in Calcio we will see what will unfolds on a Sunday night Clash in Northeast Italy.

A.S Roma 5th 4-4-1 16 Points

Roma has dealt with injuries all seasons to a certain extent it has been their downfall if Roma were completely healthy all season we could be having a different conversation. It’s been nothing but bad news on the injury front. Finally, Roma has been given good news on two of their injured players. Roma’s Turkish Superstar Cengiz under is ready to return to the team and has been listed in the squad for Wednesday night’s match. I find it unlikely that he will get the start but we could see him at some stage coming off the bench. We don’t want to rush this because of what has happened with the majority of Roma’s team this season. In addition to that Hendrick, Mkhitaryan is very close to returning as well he could be fit by the Napoli game at the beginning of next month. As far as Romans formation we shouldn’t see it too many changes. With the injures Roma should stay the same with the injuries Roma will likely come out of the formation they have used the last two games as the 4-1-4-1 has been a success so far. I see very limited changes in the backline as always the goalkeeper will remain the same but we could see just a slight adjustment in the backline. Alessandro Florenzi is likely to return to the starting lineup. At left-back, we Alex Kolarov as always beside him the center-back partnership of Federico Fazio and Chris Smalling. Leonardo Spinazzola has started the last couple of games at right-back I think he goes to the bench in this game as Florenzi takes that position at least for the moment. As the lone defensive midfielder Gianluca Mancini surely will be the man for the job he is not a defensive midfielder but given his range of abilities he has thrived in that position over this experiment in the last 2 games. In the central part of Roma’s for Midfield Javier Pastore and Jordan Veretout are unlikely to be moved as they have started together during the injury crisis. On the wings, Justin kluivert will return from suspension as he reclaims his spot on the left-wing while Diego Perotti who still isn’t 100% comes off the bench on Wednesday night. Then on the opposite side is likely Nicolo Zaniolo who is coming off a fantastic performance against Milan. The striker will remain unchanged because Roma doesn’t have any other options at that position as Edin Dzeko will try to keep his scoring run going this Wednesday. Romo will have some better options Off the Bench this week with Cengiz Under and Diego Perotti among them.

Udinesse 14th 3-1-5 10Points

Udinese is coming off their worst performance of the season and potentially one of their worst performances of the last several years. In addition to that Opoku was sent off in their 7-1 loss last week. This is a team that typically comes out of the 3-5-2 formation this is something that they should consider changing before this game on Wednesday but I would be surprised if they do. Their tactical approach clearly didn’t work over the weekend if it did they would not have conceded seven goals. However, they have specifically used the 3-5-2 formation all season and it seems like they’re unlikely to change it even though that is the right approach given the situation. In goal, it should be Musso the backline should consist of Samir at left-back, bedside should be center-back Troost-Ekong then at right-back Rodrigo Becao. In their attacking Midfield, they have a set up of three Central midfielders as De Paul, Jajalo and Mandragora are likely to supply that area. Then we should see Sema on the left-wing and a Wallace on the right-wing. Then as always upfront the two main Strikers of Okaka and Kevin Lasagna. The most important and key player for this team is Rodrigo de Paul he needs to have a phenomenal game if they’re even going to have a chance.

Bottom Line

After last weekend’s victory against AC Milan Roma will have a different type of attitude momentum and confidence going into this game. As they’re facing a team who has just been annihilated in their last game they will lack in those areas. Roma wants to get three points but this match could be more important than realized. They want to continue to pick up some victories get that winning run going but furthermore, they want to ingratiate themselves into the Champions League race. This Wednesday there is a legitimate chance that Roma takes that for the position. Napoli plays Atalanta who is the highest-scoring team in the league while Napoli has been nothing short of a disappointment. If Napoli drop points Roma has to win this game. It puts them in a totally different light if they convert on this. From a football perspective, this is a game that should have little to no issue for them. They have struggled significantly at times this season but even so that was during time periods where they didn’t have a lot of confidence after a big win against AC Milan this team will have confidence and momentum and that’s not even to mention they’re getting a little healthier on their bench which gives them another opportunity to do something. Roma’s defense is playing at such a high level that it isn’t really a concern anymore this will only help them get a little more efficient. I’m still a little concerned about the Midfield but after this last week, Javier Pastore played really well something I did not see coming given his struggles at the club. Roma has to find a way to recreate some sort of dynamics in the Midfield. If they can do that and get forward this will be an easy three points. Edin Dzeko is in great form this season and if you supply him chances quite simply there’s nothing that Udinese will be able to do about it. Stopping Udinesse is quite simple to find a way to neutralize Rodrigo de Paul and you will make things really easy on themselves. He is the one player that can be a difference-maker in any game one of the most underrated players in the league if they’re able to stop him they will not stand much of a chance. Getting back into the champions league is really important this season and on top of that Roma plays Napoli next week so they could even increase points in the Champions League race. If Roma does their job there’s no doubt in my mind they will go to Darci Arena and take all three points back to Rome with them.
