Roma has gathered momentum in confidence for the first time this season. Following a less-than-ideal start to the season it seems Roma has got themselves back on track despite having injuries throughout the entire team they found themselves. The Romans are coming off back-to-back wins against AC Milan and Udinesse this has given them confidence and momentum for the next period of the season. In fact, they have pushed themselves into the top four in Italian football which has become an expectation for this club. With that comes more expectation and standard that they will certainly have to deal with in what will be a thrilling match this weekend. Roma has just recently moved in front of Napoli in the table after Napoli’s failed to beat Atalanta. It will be another edition of the Derby Del Sol between Roma and Napoli. The Naples side will travel to the Stadio Olimpico a place in which they have had a great amount of success in recent time last season Napoli beat Roma in the season series but nearly lost the first game as it took a late equalizer to conserve points at the San Paolo. Over the last several seasons Napoli and Roma have battled for superiority a lot of the time during Juventus’s run either Roma or Napoli has been the biggest challenge during the stretch. This is much different from the Roman Derby there isn’t hatred between them but there is a competitive nature wanting to prove their superiority against each other. They battle on Saturday afternoon and we will see an answer to that question. Roma has an opportunity to extend their gap and maintain themselves in the Champions League Place. Meanwhile, after just falling out of it a few days ago without Napoli have an opportunity to get it back who will come on top in the Serie A matchday of the week. In 164 Roma leads this derby with 62 wins with 52 draws and 49 losses. What will happen who will prove superiority will it be the Romans or the Neapolitans? Will find out when the two Italian heavyweights throw down in the internal City.
A.S Roma 5-4-1 4th 19Pts
Roma has had adjusted the formation a couple of times largely because of the injuries they have endured this season. However last week Roma went back to the 4-2-3-1 formation the setup that Fonseca prefers given the fact that Gianluca Mancini has capabilities of playing in a defensive Midfield now I see Fonseca maintaining this typical formation unless something drastic happens. We should not see many changes this week. In goal as always will be Pau Lopez. I would only make one change in the backline. I would go with Alex Kolarov at left-back beside him we could see the center-back partnership of Chris Smalling and Leonardo Spinazzola then on the outside at right-back I’d like to see Alessandro Florenzi return to the starting lineup. In front, there should be no change in the defensive Midfield with Gianluca Mancini and Jordan Veretout who have done pretty well as a duo in that area. In the attacking Midfield, we could see the inclusion of Cengiz Under after having dealt with an injury he is back and fit for the match. However, I don’t want to rush him back but I think he will make an appearance in this game before he becomes fully fit. I would go exactly the same in the Midfield with Javier Pastore who’s playing really well lately in a central position. On the left-wing Justin kluivert who has progressed massively the season and then on the other side Nicolo Zaniolo who has scored in 2 consecutive games. Then upfront as the main Striker will be Edin Dzeko for sure. Roma will also have options Off the Bench with Diego Perotti Cengiz Under and Cert Mertin.
Napoli 5-3-2 6th 18pts
Carlo Ancelotti teams are a very attacking style as Napoli has one of the most vicious attacks in all of Italy. You can see that from their formation and the personal they have within it. Napoli goalkeeper is an Italian Rising Star Alex Meret who has been tremendous since he burst onto the scene. Napoli has to injuries on their backline as Kostas manolas and Malcuilt are both out as they are unlikely to be fit for the match tomorrow. At left-back we should see Sebastiano Lupatro in their backline should see more or less the same. Besides him, one of the best defenders in the world Koulibaly is partnered with Maksimovic as a center backs. Then at right-back supplying width on the outside Giovanni di Lorenzo who has shown promise since his move this summer. Napoli’s Midfield is as strong as any in Italian football. Napoli pair Fabian Ruiz and Allen in the center position while having Lorenzo insigne and Callejon on the outside. Meanwhile, they’re an incredibly dangerous attack with Milik and Dries Mertens. The key player for Napoli in this matchup has to be koulibaly Napoli are playing without two defensive starters with that being said we reputation of the defense and their ability to perform will rest on his shoulders.
There’s no disputing that Napoli is the better team however they have massively underperformed this season. They were a team that I thought would be a major threat to Juventus this season they have seen to fall out of the title race already & have a psychological problem of not being able to perform at a high level when they’re asked. Even though a late penalty should have been given to Napoli they allowed Atalanta back in that game and has failed to win in their last three. They’re not in very good form on Carlo Ancelotti will not be sitting on the bench meaning the adjustments that make him so brilliant will not be able to wound Roma. Don’t get me wrong they have the players to secure a big victory away at the Stadio Olimpico however with Carlo Ancelotti, not on the bench it will make things more difficult. They still can win this game and they might just do that and are probably slight favorites but not by much. Their form has dipped and right now they don’t sit in the Champions League. Meanwhile, a victory for Roma would increase that Gap. Dries Mertens will be incredibly important if he can have a really strong performance and if Milik and Lorenzo Insigne can chip in it could make things rather difficult on Roma. However, even though Roma has actually struggled significantly throughout the season. Not to mention all the injuries they do have they have a legitimate chance to pull off the upset in the derby Del Sol. This Derby has been back and forth over the last several years but Napoli has done well at the Stadio Olimpico but things change. For the first time, this season Roma is playing with momentum and confidence. Back-to-back victories have them believing they can get against Napoli at the Stadio Olimpico. While Napoli may have better players Roma has players that can do significant damage. Napoli does not have as many injuries as Roma does but they have important injuries in the backline which means Roma will have the ability to exploit that. It could be really tough for Roma but their defense has improved immensely and they’re starting to play a more fluid attacking football especially through the Midfield. Not to mention Roma will have options on the bench with Cengiz Under who can be an absolute terror. It is unclear how much time he will get tomorrow but it’s clear that is something the Napoli will not have an answer for if he is brought on. Milik and Dries Mertens are playing exceptional football but Roma can counter that with Justin Kluivert and Nicolo Zaniolo who are in amazing form. It will truly be a battle between two teams of high-quality. this is a match that could go either way but without Carlo Ancelotti and a weakened backline, Roma will find ways to cut Napoli enough to get the three points. Roma with the momentum they have can pull off the upset tomorrow and I think they will.
