Roma is coming into this game after a disappointing display in the Europa League midweek as Roma don’t seem to be in control of their own destiny in Europe. Despite that Roma has managed to win three consecutive games in Serie A with wins at home against AC Milan and Napoli and on the road against Udinesse. The team remains in good form but need to find a way to recapture that momentum that they had prior to the loss in Germany this week. The Romans head out on the road to Parma in the last game before the International break. Roma currently sits in third place in the league and wants to keep stacking up points especially going into the break. Last season in Parma’s return to the top of Italian football Roma won both meetings. Handling them quite easily away from home and at the Stadio Olimpico on the final game of the season, Roma won a tough 2-1 matchup and the last game of Daniele de Rossi. This year Parma has shown to have qualities to pick up big points and can present a challenge to Roma. Will it happen? It is unclear but it surely will be a battle between two teams with quality. Will Roma going to Parma and leave with three points or will Parma find a way to pull off the upset. We will find out when these two teams go head-to-head on a Sunday evening in Parma.
A.S Roma 3rd 6-4-1 22Pts
Roma has dealt with injuries practically all season but this team is beginning to get healthier and Pablo Fonseca may consider adjusting the line up slightly. Cengiz Under returned against Napoli Diego Perotti is now healthy and by surprise, Diawara returned from a knee injury Thursday that he suffered at the beginning of October. With that being said we still should see a lot of the same players inside Roma’s typical 4-2-3-1 formation. In goal as always Roma’s number’s #1 Paul Lopez. We should see a backline consisting of Alex Kolarov at left-back a center-back partnership of Chris Smalling and Federico Fazio and I would like to see The Return to Alexandra Florenzi in the starting lineup as he has not played significant time in the last several games. There are no changes necessary in Roma’s defensive Midfield as Gianluca Mancini and Jordan Veretout are likely to stay compact in that position. Diawara is healthy and in a few games could probably start for Roma but given the fact that he is coming off an injury, I would not advise starting him now. Meanwhile, in Roma’s attacking Midfield, I think Cengiz Under is ready to come back. As we should see Nicolo Zaniolo moves to the central position with Justin kluivert and Cengiz out wide. Then as always as the main Striker will be without question Edin Dzeko. The health of this team has given them some valuable options off the bench with the likes of Diego Perotti, Diawara and others.
Parma 10th 4-2-5 14Pts
Parma typically operates out of the 4-3-3 formation play really attacking football which sometimes can be their downfall. It’s going to be really important for this team to be able to defend. However, their attack will not be as fluid as they are without Roberto Inglese. Inside the 4-3-3 formation other than just a few adjustments it’s likely to look more or less the same than it did against Florentina. In goal as always will be Lupe Sepe. In their backline at left-back is likely to be Pezzella beside him the center-back partnership of Bruno Alves & Lacoponi. Then opposite side likely at right-back is Former Manchester United Defender Darmian. In Parma’s attacking Midfield they typically go with Cozzarella in the Central position with a Zevedo Junior and Kucka on the outside. Up front, we should see Gervinho as the main Striker beside him Yann Karamoh and Kaulusevski on the wings. A strong team that can wound Roma Gervinho is key.
This match may be a lot more difficult than people expect. After a loss in Germany early in the week Roma needs another three points for momentum. They are on the outside looking in but they look like a dark horse in the title race. They managed to secure themselves into the top three in Italy and continue to play outstanding football as their intention is to stay there. Even in spite of the injuries, they found a way to get themselves in great form as they continue to pick up victories. However, it will be interesting to see how the loss on Thursday will impact their performance. This is a match away from home that will have its sense of challenges. There’s no question that Roma is the better team but Parma has weapons of their own that can certainly do some damage. Roma’s defense needs to play at the highest level possible. Parma has an explosive Trio Gervinho Yann Karamoh and Roberto Inglese even though Roberto is out with injury they have a formable attack. That’s not to mention they have Cornelius who is certainly capable of putting in fantastic performances and a Bruno Alves who is a fantastic Center back despite his age. This Parma team has the capabilities of making things very difficult but one to watch for them in this match is definitely Gervinho Roma cannot allow him to get into space if he does it could be an absolute nightmare. Roma knows all about him having played for the club for three seasons. His pace and athleticism are a huge problem and if he gets forward Roma could be in trouble. Parma has a decent chance to steal a result but they are not playing great football since their performance against Inter Milan they have not looked the same. This is slightly concerning but at home against a very strong team like Roma this is the best chance for them to find their way back into good form. With that being said Roma is playing as well as anyone in Italian football has won three consecutive games. This team is going to be tough to beat even away from home. Gervinho causes problems with athleticism and Pace fortunately for Roma they can counter that with the young nucleus that they have. Justin kluivert when he’s on the ball is as fast as anyone in Italian football not to mention Nicolo Zaniolo has scored in three consecutive games for Roma and it’s going to be a nightmare to try to deal with. On top of that Cengiz is coming back from injury and if he is fully healthy this attack will be incredibly hard to stop through the midfield if they’re able to come forward with pace and supply balls into Edin Dzeko. Cengiz when healthy is one of the most Unstoppable forces in Italian football because of his incredible intelligence his speed with and without the ball and makes him a serious threat if we see him at his best it is unlikely that Parma will be able to steal a point. This come will come down to defense this is where Roma has the advantage the defense has been one of the bigger concerns for Roma in recent memory but this season it has become one of their strengths the link up with Chris Smalling and the defensive Midfield can be a real problem. This team plays from back to front and because of that their attack is fueled by their backline. It will be an incredibly tough matchup But if they keep the confidence they had before the Roma will find a way to win this game. Nicolo Zaniolo is playing at an exceptional level and Beyond him, if you get Cengiz at his very best it’s goodnight Parma. Parma still has a chance to win this game but it’s going to heavily rely on Gervinho and the attack my concern is whether defensively they will be able to slow down what Roma throws at them. Roma has a better attack but not my much Parma is capable of coming forward but the backline might suffer if they do that. In a very tough game away from home, I see Roma continuing their winning streak getting what I believe will be a very tough three points at Parma.
