Serie A Weekly Review Match Day 14 #707

Juventus 2 Sassuolo 2FT

Juventus started off the weekend playing host to Sassuolo. The League champions have not played particularly well this season and needed an opportunity to prove their title threat isn’t just an Illusion. Juventus have Inter Milan breathing down their neck all points are essential even this early in the season. Despite this Sassuolo came to Turin and showed no fear as they believed they could get the job done in hostile territory. Despite a rather miserable start to the season and the game, Juventus found a way to push themselves in front. Captain Leonardo Bonucci Struck from outside the box to give Juventus the 1-0 lead. Despite conceding Sassuolo gave a pretty immediate response. When Jermaine Boga fought through Defenders and getting inside the box as he chipped Gigi Buffon to equalize. Juventus looked dangerous at times but did not intimidate 18-year-old goalkeeper Stefano Turati on his debut he was putting together a sensational display. In the second half, sassuolo didn’t have to wait very long to put themselves in front. After an absolutely embarrassing collapse in the backline, Francesco Caputo manages to score giving Sassuolo them to 2-1 lead. Matthias Deligt cleared the ball outside the box right to the feet of Francesco Caputo with Buffon making a mistake of his own as the ball rolled over the line. It was an uninspiring display but they continued to try to break through but the young goalkeeper continues to deny the league champions as Sassuolo was on upset alert in Turin. Eventually, Juventus got a break though as Paulo Dybala was taken down inside the box. Cristiano Ronaldo who had done nothing useful in the game stepped up and converted the penalty to equalize making it 2-2 with a little less than 20 minutes to go. Both teams continued to have chances as time was running out. Late in the match the young star Stefano Turati made a double save just nearly stopping the ball from crossing the line as a Sassuolo held on to earn a hard-fought point in a 2-2 draw as the Sassuolo upset Juventus in Turin. Not only does Juventus drop points but they lose their grip are the top of the league as they see Inter Milan overtake them at the top of Italian football.

Inter Milan 2 SPAL 1FT

It has been a two-team race this season with inter and Juventus within touching distance. Inter were in cruise control until their loss to Juventus earlier this season since then the club from Milan is just a little behind waiting for Juventus to screw up. This weekend that would happen and Inter Milan would have the opportunity to overtake the top of the league and put themselves in position to lead the title race. It is a long season and it’s not even close to over but momentum is always a great thing to have especially in the midst of a race like this. Sassuolo split points with Juventus in Turin. As long as Inter Milan took care of their business they would go to the top of the league with a win. Antonio Conte’s side traveled to spal in what was a battle against relegation candidates. Inter would waste no time getting on the front foot. Martinez has been Inter Milan’s best player this season and while he is gone unnoticed he has delivered and has played a big role in the success of Romelu Lukaku. Martinez opened the scoring relatively early in the match as the Argentine star drove the ball just outside the box smashing it into the bottom corner from distance to give inter the 1-0 lead. It looked like absolute cruise control as they dominated for the majority the first half giving spal little chance to do anything. Martinez who has it been Sensational all season only continued delivering what felt like a knockout punch just four minutes from half-time. Martinez put his head through a brilliant cross from Candreva. Martinez’s header ripped through the net giving Inter Milan a 2-0 lead going into the second half. Spal came to life a little bit more after the break-in fact they scored on their first shot of the second half. As Matteo Belotti struck a beautifully hit ball that rolled into the bottom corner to bring SPAL back. Despite that SPAL made things difficult Inter were the better team but it wasn’t as easy as it was in the opening 45 minutes. Martinez had several chances of the second half and even failed to score on something that should have been easy. Despite that, the Brilliance of Martinez in the early part of the game proved to be enough as Inter Milan held on to a 2-0 victory. With the win, they go above Juventus in the league table as momentum is driving what has been a historically hot start to the season.
