The transfer window is a officially open as clubs in Italy and throughout Europe as team  have a chance to bolster their squad for the second half of the season. It appears most of Roma’s business will be done in the summer as they will start negotiations with several teams in the winter in hopes of securing a deal at the end of the season. While Roma has priority this winter is to sign Chris Smalling on a permanent deal something I believe will eventually get done in the next month. However Roma is still looking for reinforcements and will still continue to try to do business during this window to see if there’s an opportunity to add some depth to an already very strong team with major capabilities during the second half of the season. They have yet to make any signings this month but Roma were able to take care of some business for the foreseeable future. Roma’s take over should be concluded by the end of the month. With Dan and Ryan Friedkin expected to take control of the club as a James Pallotta and the American businessman are on the verge of concluding on an 860 million purchase. Part of the ambitions of the new owners will ultimately securing some of the important pieces that already exist within the club. There have been talks for extensions for Lorenzo Pellegrini Justin kluivert as well as several other important pieces to the club. However Roma were able to reach terms with Alex Kolarov and Bryan Cristante on a new contracts. Roma sporting director Petrachi has been working behind the scenes to get these deals done. Alex Kolarov signs a one-year deal extending his current contract that is set to expire in 2021 he was in his last year of his contract as of the Serbian left-back now has a little bit of leeway of certainly with his deal. Meanwhile Bryan Cristante will giving a brand new four-and-a-half-year deal set to expire in 2024. While Roma may have not made a signing in the transfer market as of yet they re-signed two of the most important players ensuring they continue to have the pieces to build Roma into a winner.

Alex Kolarov despite his age has been a terrific signing for Roma. He has made 113 appearances for the club scoring 17 times for the Romans in his three seasons with the club already. Even though he is 34 years of age he has consistently performed for this team over the last several seasons. The Serbian left back is a regular starter for Roma and has been one of Paulo fonseca’s favorites this season. The Portuguese manager likes at player like Kolarov for a couple of reasons. Obviously his quality but that goes without saying he is a tremendous player who can impact any team. However one of the main reasons Paulo Fonseca has become so fond of him his because of his leadership qualities. Paulo Fonseca his new to Italy and this Roma job and to a certain extent Alex Kolarov has helped him find comfortability with this team and in this league. Kolarov has experience at the top level he has won trophies with Manchester City and even Roma’s arch-rivals Lazio. When Alex came to Roma it was very controversial whether you play for Roma or Lazio you do not cross that barrier and Kolarov was willing to do that. This movement made this club fall in love with him. Alex Kolarov since he has been in Rome has been one of the best free kick takers in all of Europe. Since his arrival in the Eternal City only Leo Messi has scored more goals from free-kicks. He has scored a large volume of goals for a Defender. Last season he was the highest scoring defender in Europe with seven goals. This season he is already scored on five different occasions as he continues to show his importance to the squad. Alex Kolarov has said he would like to play four more seasons. Preferably he’ll be able to do that in Roma. Roma’s willingness to meet him at the table and renegotiate his contract shows their commitment and believes in the Ageless Wonder Alex Kolarov. At times he can be a liability defensively but on the attacking side of things he gives Roma a different dimension and what is a very attacking minded approach from Paulo Fonseca. Even though is yet to wear the armband he has become one of the leaders of the team and is really important in regards to the progression that we have seen since his arrival. With another year extended on his contract here the opportunity to only continue to grow with this young Roma team as he plays an experienced figure in what is a really important factor in building Something special.

Roma also have extended one of their most important players going forward. Bryan Cristante is the best defensive midfielder on the team and has the potential to be one of the best at the position in all of Italian football. This was a deal that I was informed about a few weeks ago. They have been in negotiations for several weeks as both sides wanted to get a deal done. Bryan cristante has the potential to make a massive impact on this team during the second half of the season. There are not a lot of big teams after him at the moment but before not too long they will start to try to sway him away from the Italian capital. The timing of this was absolutely perfect for the Versatile and intelligent midfielder. Getting this done now gives Roma a huge opportunity to continue to grow as a team. Getting the deal done when they did was important sooner or later some bigger teams are going to want him. Extending the contract now shows their intent and believe in Bryan Cristante visibility in the Roma Midfield. Jordan Veretout and Diawara have displayed consistency in the defensive Midfield in his absence. When Bryan Cristante comes back we could see even more progression and consistency in that area. All three defensive midfielders are very capable of playing that role to an incredibly high level. Bryan Cristante is without question the best out of the three but potentially the three of them can work together and become a great team through all facets of the Midfield. Bryan Cristante arrived in Roma last season and despite a rough start ended up becoming one of the team’s most consistent players through what was a very disappointing and frustrating season. There were not a lot of Bright Start spots from last year but Bryan Cristante was one of the few as he developed a consistency that justified Roma making the decision to bring him to the Eternal City for just 30 million. A deal that now kind of looks like a bargain. They were expectations for him to replace a fan favorite Radja Nainggolan. Even though that was an unrealistic expectations because they are completely different kind of players he handled it like a champ and has shown great love and admiration for the club. In his interview after his contract extension he mentioned that he passionately believes in the project that Roma are building with Paulo Fonseca. Since joining the club from Atalanta he has made 54 appearances for the club scoring five goals. it’s not totally obvious yet but Bryan Cristante is one of the most important players that Roma have and he is a big part of the future going forward. It is a no brainer to extend it stay for another 4 years. This is a big contract extension this shows how much the club between manager and the supporters believe in his abilities to become a sensational player at this club. He is a player who truly loves the badge and gives everything for it. We should see him back during the second half of the season he is a very important part on the future of the club he’s so versatile as he can play both in defensive and attacking positions. he’s going to develop into a sensational defensive midfielder as he has proven it since he has arrived in Rome he also has a really high football IQ and he plays with Incredible intelligence he will continue to grow and become that player that we all expect him to be after extending his contract Roma have secure another part of their future in the long-term.
