A.S Roma vs Genoa Match Day 13 Preview #1324

The international break comes to an end as League Play will resume this upcoming weekend. Roma is going through quite a rough stretch as Jose Mourinho will look to turn it around after falling to Venezia before the break. Roma will head out on the road as they will arrive at the Luigi Ferraris to take on a Genoa who are in desperate need of points as only goal difference separates them from the bottom three. Former AC Milan star Andriy Shevchenko was recently appointed in charge. He will go up against Jose Mourinho in his Serie A debut following his exit from the Ukraine national team. Roma will go in as favorites despite their form; they are expected to get the job done, but anything can happen, especially considering Roma is playing. Will the Roma finally put together a convincing performance against the bottom of the league, or does Genoa have something special up their sleeves to pull off an upset and get something we will find out on Sunday night in Genoa?

Genoa

Genoa possible starting lineup:
Sirigu; Masiello, Vasquez, Vanheusden; Biraschi, Badelj, Sturaro, Rovella, Cambiaso; Galdames; Pandev

It has been quite a miserable season for a Genoa team that you would have thought coming into this campaign would have been in a better position. Genoa does have quality, and even though Roma did take their best player, there was a reason to believe Genoa could be A team that could finish in the middle table. They had a tough start to the season, and it has gotten much worse ever since. They seem like one of the most likely teams to be relegated this season; they just haven’t got it together, and at this point, there’s no real sense of identity inside the squad; this has made things incredibly difficult hopefully, things will start to change quite frankly the entire situation is somewhat of a mess. Andriy Shevchenko has recently been brought in to try to get them out of it. It’s unclear how this will work, and there’s certainly a lot of pressure now on him to get a result in his first game against Roma and Jose Mourinho, who spend time together at Chelsea. He had been in charge of the Ukraine national team since 2017. This is a very strange appointment that’s somewhat reeks of desperation; however, there might be a chance, considering how well he did with Ukraine getting them to two tournaments. Against Roma, we can expect them to play defensive football; they might not have the minerals to go after them, but I suspect they will choose their moments carefully and become aggressive when the time is right; the most important thing for them is not allowing Roma to start quickly Roma have not been playing well lately, and they want to get this thing in the bag as quickly as possible considering their situation even a point would be precious for them. They may not park the bus completely, but I suspect that they will stack the deck as long as possible to try to get something from this Genoa are not in the situation where they should be risky; they need to start picking up points and against Roma, risk-taking could backfire they will choose the moments accordingly and try to execute when they have the opportunity even with Roma’s poor form it’s still going to be quite a challenge as they have had a lack of inspiration all season-long so far this may be an opportunity to prove a point with the new manager, but that’s easier said than done.

Roma

Roma possible starting lineup:
Patricio; Mancini, Kumbulla, Ibanez; Karsdorp, Cristante, Veretout, El Shaarawy; Pellegrini, Mkhitaryan; Abraham

From Roma’s point of view, there’s no need to press the Panic Button, but their dipping form is slightly concerning. There has been a lot of talk about potentially switching up the formation playing with three at the back instead just to give Roma a different possibility and the idea of playing with two Strikers. The issue with this is that Chris Smalling is not completely healthy yet and until that happens, I suspect they will keep the formation as it is. This game all of a sudden is critical. Roma cannot afford to drop any more easy points. Genoa right now is an unstable team; they don’t have an identity, and they’re coming into this game with a new manager; there are no excuses here; Roma must find a way to collect maximum points. It has been rather an up-and-down season so far. Roma really needs to emphasize getting this campaign and back on the right track their next couple of games are rather winnable, and Roma needs to do everything in their power to pick up maximum points at the very least against Genoa and next weekend against Torino. Against Genoa, a team with all kinds of issues, this is a perfect game for Lorenzo Pellegrini to have a masterful performance in Midfield. Even though he’s dealing with a slight injury, this should be a game that is made for Roma’s captain. Roma’s mentality should be to start as quickly as possible be aggressive from the very jump there are likely going to have a large deal of possession; they must make it count and take advantage early. I’m looking for Tammy Abraham to have another big game scored in his last game against Venezia and scored with England on International Duty Roma’s attack is missing some components, but mostly, they’re missing goals from players outside of Lorenzo Pellegrini. Defensively Roma’s options are not that great at the moment, but they do have one of the league’s best keepers; an aggressive streak from Roma is exactly what is needed; this will be a lot more difficult than it may seem, but considering Roma’s up and down from this is a match that has extreme importance, All Things Considered, this is a must-win game they cannot leave Genoa without three points it is an absolute must I feel despite the dysfunction at Genoa it will be difficult because Roma is not playing particularly well, but I feel they will get the job done in a narrow victory hopefully give them some sort of confidence for the coming games this is extremely important any points dropped here would be an absolute disaster my feeling is Lorenzo Pellegrini will not allow that to happen as Roma take up the points in Genoa.

Prediction: Roma 2–1
